  1. These were on sale at the Manchester show though I didn't bother buying one as they aren't really right for my period and place. Looked nice though and I understand there is a P4 converted one out there already.. Hattons seems to have them too.. http://www.ehattons.com/StockDetail.aspx?SID=35963
  2. Thanks though i'd forgotten they were at Manchester, had a look while at the show today and I was asking about the masters, The 48DS looks a rather nice little critter.
  3. Are the white bits 3D prints or resin castings?
  4. Certainly a more impressive model of the station this will be than the architects model for the area on display in the GNR warehouse. Not the best shot, taken before I went down into the canal tunnel under the warehouse (official tour while I was out on a date!). Some impressive remains of hydraulic lift towers down there too (see http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=53777 , looks like a giant kiln!) also impressive were the milk chocolate looking rivers of mud down there! That load test is very impressive as were the bridge ones. Are you intending on modelling the Albert Hall opposite the warehouse yard by the way? That is another very impressive building http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=62579 . Keep up the great build!
  5. Now that is a price that makes them slightly more worthwhile over the Bachmann. Mind with Sharks cropping up up for £8.99 now compared to what they were when they came out I can still wait a while to see some in the flesh to pickup cheap..
  6. Official drawing says 1 3/8" inside frame, 1 11/16" outside frame for these though the bodyside metalwork could confuse things. It also shows curved glass actually, 27' 6"..
  7. The cross rods between the trussing are missing too. Vac cylinders seem to have been constrained the the brake lever pivot centreline which is a bit odd and should be lined up as Jon mentioned. I still think it'd be better to mould the pivot onto the vac cylinder to make it thinner and easier to model behind the solebar. Brake lever could do with some shape to it at least within the constraints of plastic moulding. The designer seems to have just made a vague attempt to copy the wagon from a picture rather than doing any decent measurements in parts. The numberplate on the solebar should be a 'D' plate too, it looks like a sort of oval on the model. A small detail but it'd cock up printing the number in there a little! I assume the model is running on undersize wheels and has a spacer on the bogie mount to avoid the wheels going up behind the solebars? That is certainly the impression gained compared to the prototype. It looks a bit 1990s compared to what Bachmann/Hornby are offering now and to your other releases as it currently stands.
  8. Drawings that may be of use at the NRM York: Swindon Roll 457 SL/SW/2209 Window Apertures (Cab front and side window frame sizes, modified as per build) SL/SW/2543 2700HP Diesel Hydraulic Locomotive (Original weight diagram, might be nice box art..) SL/SW/2451 Livery & Spacing Diagram - BR Blue (I get the feeling this drawing wiped out the maroon spec though it does still have the modifications including 27-9-62 "colour of body changed from coach maroon to loco maroon" ) SL/SW/2619 Arrgt. & Details of Engine Room Windows SL/SW/2872 Livery & Spacing Diagram - Desert Sand - D1000 SL/SW/3128 Livery & Spacing Diagram - Locomotive Green - D1002-D1004, D1035-D1038 The following 4 drawings are fascinating as they show the body framework without the skin on much like a wooden aircraft without the fabric covering! SL/SW/2669 Arrangement Of Welded Pads on Upper Frame 'A' End Outer Section SL/SW/2670 Arrangement Of Welded Pads on Upper Frame 'A' End Inner Section SL/SW/2671 Arrangement Of Welded Pads on Upper Frame 'B' End Inner Section SL/SW/2672 Arrangement Of Welded Pads on Upper Frame 'B' End Outer Section Talking of weight diagrams looking nice on a box Swindon Roll 365 57-401A BTC 1000HP DH Locomotive NBL Glasgow 56-654F BR 2000HP DH Locomotive NBL Glasgow
  9. Well you can get a Lima one out then and flog the nice new Hornby one on eBay.. At least you have a working chassis to start with!
  10. They'd pretty much send you a new one so its worth doing really.
  11. Cor official Swindon drawings of a class 14 in BR blue.. Drawings of all the Western's windows too :)

  12. I recommend the solder too, use it on my own underframe kits too. Bill Bedford has had sheets of little washers with the coach kits to account for variation in axles and bearings. Personally I use Kean Maygib too for consistency and along with their wheels there is a slight bit of slop but i've not had as much as 1mm. Might want to try some Gibsons with those wheels, they usually cause splay so might be right in this case. 50g with 012" i'd say, you'd have to go a bit lighter if you used .010" on BB units.
  13. The snag with that is that the rest of the block will powder away within the next year or so. The posts for the circuit board on mine had also failed by the time I sent it to Hornby as well as chips coming off the main block.
  14. Thanks for that cutter review, it was indeed very helpful and at the price its a jig I can afford! Blimey this thread moves quick though, its already a couple of pages back! The cost savings over Evergreen were also interesting. Very much a case of is right, looks right these structures. The benefit of copying the prototype properly giving a stunning model. Love to see that track to the proper gauge under it but it would be a lot of wheel conversions on top of the other work.
  15. Could you give any more details on the source of the strip cutter and whether you think it'd work well on 5 thou? I don't have a guillotine either currently but i'd like to find alternatives to the ruler and knife approach I currently try. I was under the viaducts last week on a visit to Deansgate so its great to compare how well you've captured them on the model.
  16. Separate buffers are an interesting one but are they sprung? It does have a refinement in the upper handrails compared to the Bachmann one and the planking is indeed an improvement. The plastic Hornby use however makes the underframe a bit chunkier than the Bachmann I think. £7/8 vs £13 ish hmm, possibly if you want the minor variation but as I throw the chassis away anyway i'll stick with the Bachmann bodies for now I think unless these come down a bit in future. The T in ton and the way the numbers are spaced one per plank seems an oddity compared to the majority of shots I have on this particular one. Like the Iron Ore hopper Hornby seem to have had a knack of finding odd looking painting!
  17. Could use red/white bi-colour leds.. http://www.unique-leds.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=1972
  18. I hope that wood up there between the ties was supposed to have bowed like that! Looks like a lovely old garage in itself actually!
  19. Railway Modeller... apples and pears etc.. If there aren't pictures it didn't happen Tim... I think the article was by the rmwebber mentioned.
  20. I'd really recommend the MERG units where you can control the throw of the servos electrically. There are a couple of threads in the p'way section here showing them used on signals. Each board can control 4 servos I believe. For our club layout Slattocks we'll be trialling an 8 servo board that plugs directly into our CBUS accessory system. We went for CBUS as it had advantages over DCC accessory control and we only need 4 wires going around the layout, 2 control, 2 power.
  21. The bump stops are wrong and the brake lever has no definition to it, the vacuum cylinder linkage also hasn't been modelled yet so I agree with Jon that there is a bit of work yet. I'd also recommend modelling the vacuum cylinder pivot on the cylinder not the solebar..
  22. The two straights forming the corner seem to have been turned into a shallow arc on that side shot.. Hopefully they can do an intersection between what they've ended up with and the scan and sort out the differences..
  23. The roof of the cad is curving over the length of that panel by the look of it which is why the bottom edge isn't parallel. Anyone got a side on shot from a step ladder to show if that is really the case (I know the bottom edge should be parallel)? I guess this shows laser scanning is only useful if the CAD operator doesn't completely ###### around with the data.. Moving the roof grilles to the centreline being the ultimate example of that in the original views. Please make the walkways a separate fitting so that they can be easily replaced.
  24. Its possible Hornby inherited a portfolio on the N16 when they bought Lima. The preserved one would have helped too..
