  1. Slattocks was running on Friday night as part of the club's general running evening which has required a couple of nights of quickly adding new droppers to new sections of the fiddle yard. The ability to test was well used by Andy C though testing stock for his new layout: Source: North Ballachulish

    Mk1 Horsebox

The Model Rail special of WR mk1s was distinctive for being maroon with maroon ends as opposed to all of the Bachmann releases with black ends. That set represented a late repaint of the stock.. Works may have given up on most NPCCS earlier but most of them were so dirty its hard to tell!
  3. STEAM will have showed it for the opportunity to have a horse box on show and might not have been completely pedantic in checking the livery. The NRM has also hosted some dubious liveries. The GWR page I linked to did have the name of the owner and notes about following pictures and drawings so an email might clear up which photos were used for the paint job..
  4. Are you following a photo of the underframe the other way around or just a plan book? The preserved example matches Hornby and not your rejig btw.. http://www.gwsr.com/gwr-175/on-the-running-line/gwr-rolling-stock.aspx You can attach vacuum brake pull cords to the two bits sticking down from the solebar if you're very keen .
  5. It uses lightboxes. http://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/Allinthedetails/DMUs/E79960-Railbus/i-LzZDd64/0/XL/E79960Sheringham20042011-XL.jpg http://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/Allinthedetails/DMUs/E79960-Railbus/i-cf3bHHH/0/XL/E79960Sheringham20042011-1-XL.jpg
  6. Van C and Shark come to mind. There's a bit missing off these due to the coupling pocket which sadly I understand isn't a separate part like on the new LNER wagons from Bachmann?
  7. As I found a couple of crimson/cream ones now really cheap I want to try sanding the roof down on them to get rid of the stupid height differences between each roof panel. They really stand out in the weathering Nidge has applied above for example where in practice the roof looks flush unless you are up on top of it!
  8. Heh that album has pictures of the furtive "You wana see my 00 gauge in the car park" episode at S4um.. I'd missed this earlier, looks good Bryn and I concur with the thoughts on overhanging the lighting and curving things.
  9. Hope you fit the changeover lever to that MinFit now Bryn . Good work on the painting too, i'll get mine done as soon as i've got something else to spray black too! I did build up another two bodies last week though.. I think underframe shots of a prototype minfit are in 4mm wagon pt 1.
  10. Proper job! Top work that man, now sell them with vast profit margins .
  11. Yes they were passenger rated and you do see them in passenger trains. I've seen one on the branch line train to Brecon, the train being a Collett and a Hawksworth brake 3rd. Hawksworth coaches got downgraded pretty quickly once mk1s came along.
  12. David Geen should have lost wax square shanks, not sure about the heads but you could always solder some brass ovals onto round heads and fit them.
  13. This is the critical bit, continuous rating of 1A vs Hornby 0.5A due to the Buhler motors Heljan use. The Sapphire has overload protection I think but the earlier Hornby could overheat and blow quite easily too if fitted..
  14. Hattons has pictures up now. Nice prototype shot to compare against: http://www.gwsr.com/gwr-175/on-the-running-line/gwr-rolling-stock.aspx The buffers look a bit malnourished and the brake gear is compromised by the NEM pockets but its basically up there with the BY and the Shark brake as a very nice body/
  15. Hawksworth coach £14, bargain :). Not sure what to do with a composite yet though..

2nd hand shop in York had it in the window when I was out helping my brother flat hunt. Earlier in the day I found full drawings of the cl22 bogie in the NRM.. The Modeller has them for £19.80

  16. Ah ok, i'd looked back at the thread hoping someone had taken photos as I couldn't remember. Tbh I wasn't really in a fit state from the night before and Simon Kohler was being bothered by an annoying child at the time so I moved along quickly.. I'd rather hope it did have sprung buffers for the price.
  17. £6 difference on hattons which probably is worth it (£2 buffers, £2 axleboxes + time). For a bog standard BR brake transition era modeller it needs working brakes and stove to bother buying one over the Bachmann though which is still why i'm miffed they didn't do a better LMS one. I don't think they had a sample at DEMU as I would have looked closely at the inner end windows and the handrails, the two bits they could improve on the Bachmann.
  18. Eating a Cornish Pastie and thought of this

  19. Sorts of fits and spurts on the ground Mike.. Tortoise were already on the layout previously Mike and they all have robust microswitches screwed to the front so it didn't make sense to spend extra changing to servos when we already had them. Signals should be servos though. The boards for those may be the MERG servo 4s connected to normal 8 way cbus modules or there may end up being an 8 servo specific CBUS board done. The big debate last night was about controlling the AJ magnets via boards or push buttons. If we can do the former there are a couple of advantages. I've not got anything new into production yet as I needed to finish something off from existing stuff first. Hopefully Paul has got the bit you need to you to start your batch. How is your group finding working with JMRI? This was the first time i've opened up panel pro as Mike Bolton did the turnout table already when testing the new MERG code. I seem to have used a layout panel at the moment though there is another type of panel in the list. Hi Dave, i'd be interested how we're going to do those things too . Yes its not really been finalised yet though I do have drawings of prototype stretchers to try etching a Masokits type stretcher but include the insulating section we should have as we're pretending we have track circuits. I've used the Masokits ones on some test stuff and it seems reliable enough when non cosmetic so should be fine along with the Exactoscale tubes. Once we decide on one im hoping doing the rest of the points will be quicker but for now all of the motors can be wired up and positioned anyway. Points are ply sleeprs along with some of the plain line but most of the plain line is Exactoscale track. The sleepers weren't stained but given a wash of dirty brown/grey paint, there are 3 people's interpretation on there in enamel and acrylic.. We intend to airbrush weather it yet to bring everything together. Next Monday should be fun trying out stock uncoupling on a test plank to work out how long we need to set the magnet activations for or if we need to pulse them. Power required is 4amps if 12V is used apparently, explained why I tripped my adaptor previously..
  20. Did it retain these into the early '60s though? Many castles had new cylinders and front frame extensions to a later pattern. Looks like a later type
  21. Blimey this is as PC as Jeremy Clarkson .. The commentator isn't too good at identifying dinosaurs when we had one on Saffron St at Railex though he did know what type of car it was eating. I'm thankfully still in the asked for my gym card category at the moment..
  22. Well more like a whirr but.. MERG CBUS modules drive a Tortoise controlled from Panel Pro in edit mode. I believe the code for the MERG setup we're using was only recently added to JMRI so we were using a MERG utility to test the points previously. Its nice to have the visual working now. The physical setup of the stretcher bars and TOU's may take slightly longer! An overview for Mike G before the yard started to be glued down and ballasted.

  25. Ah Paul did tell me he's been helping with a bit of mission creep when he phoned.. I hope the chat on Sunday was useful and it was nice to see the progress in person. I'd recommend chairing and painting before laying on the mainline so that you can ballast at the same time, it saved so much effort on Slattocks and we only needed to fill in over the dropper tags once they were all wired up and tested. Obviously it isn't an issue as much with the ash ballast in the yard. Those lines on the front look like you'll be having some interesting track/board joints to deal with! I'll be interested to see how those turnout units work, I couldn't really make head or tail of their instructions!Too late to fit them to Slattocks but if they work well I might want to try them in the future. Be good when some track is down for Paul to run his finished Jinty and TPO on though using those as a milestone probably gives you about 20 years..
