  1. Would a prolonged soak soften the fish glue? Or even a hot water soak? My only knowledge of this type of glue is from woodworking. Once dismantled a chair by suspending it for a day over a warm radiator. Just pulled the joints apart.
  2. Just spotted this posting. I think you want ImageResizer from http://bricelam.net/ImageResizer Was free when I last looked and it installs a right click option to resize. Multiple images no problem. hth
  3. That Tower model reminds me of Trebudoc....
  4. As George said. If you don't get a smooth joint you can always melt some soft 100 degree or 70 degree solder over the join and keep sanding and repeating to it's no longer noticeable. A 320 grit is coarse enough to do the job and fine enough not to leave too much in the way of scratches. Finish with your Garryflex block
  5. Just checked my model. It's from Majestic Models and their description is MW41 Light Railway incline goods van which was based on the NBR Kipps incline brake van Apparently the dog kennel is correct but the veranda has been altered slightly from the original. Hth.
  6. Phil I've really enjoyed your thread and your comments. It's one of the locos I would love to have. Any more suggestions on the build progression gratefully received. Regards,
  7. Have used one for years in the workshop. Great for moving and tilting heavy stuff as well as raising and lowering.
  8. Love the build Ken. Keep the photos coming. Somehow my box is floating up the todo stack.
  9. The real trouble with retirement is that everyone else thinks you have unlimited free time to help them.........
  10. Only four trips to the tip, you were lucky.... It takes weeks to eject the spiders.
  11. Are you going to spring the chassis George? I've found Jazz & Sandy's method using piano wire works really well and takes little time to do.
  12. Lol with the best will in the world you can't call a Q1good looking.....
  13. I'm not a 4mm modeller but the four books I'd recommend are: Guy Williams The 4mm Engine isbn 0 906867 70 3 Iain Rice Etched Loco Construction isbn 0 9066867 86 X Iain Rice Locomotive Kit Chassis construction in 4mm isbn 1 874103 10 0 There's also another 4mm book by Iain on whitemetal kits but I can't find it atm.. All are great value with a lot of ideas and plenty of photographs. Some these may be out of print but you can usually find copies through Abe Books on line. HTH
  14. Exactly what I do. Put the frets on the shower tray and spray them with Barkeepers. Leave for a few minutes then wash clean. Come up like new.
  15. Sneaky photo we can't check the springing......
  16. Glad to hear you're doing another dvd as I enjoyed your split axle one. Only saddened when your radial chassis stopped as I have one in my todo pile...
  17. Great Beamish photos. Loved that horn on the Napier...
  18. Make the main scenic section on the top shelf and use the lower for cassette/sector plate to keep the stock safe under cover. Will look more interesting when the whole thing is folded up.
  19. Love the name and the idea. (Ebay great source of vax spares )
  20. Tried to send you a photo, but it requires webhosting and I haven't time for that nonsense today. Happy to email it if you want. Best is just to trawl through Jazz and Sandy's building threads and you'll stumble across variants of it. Basically you drill a fine hole on one side of the bush and just bend the very end of the spring's tip so it locates in the hole and stops it rotating. You can solder it in place or not bother. The spring can be either folded or left straight depending on the chassis. and the space available. I like bending the spring as it makes adjusting the pressure simple.
  21. I don't think the gauge of the wire is that important, as long a it's springy. If you fold it like a hair grip, adjusting the bend will change the amount of spring. Works a treat. Having followed Sandy and Jazz all my builds use it. ps. The 0 gauge guild have a CD of Sandy demonstrating split axles, definitely worth watching.
  22. Thanks for the video. Funnily enough I was looking at the engraving attachment the other day and wondering about using it like that. I just so want one of those Garratts....
  23. Bill's a good man to know. Think you'll find the 02 a bit more demanding than the G6
  24. A couple of coats of shellac and you should be able to lightly sand the card with fine wet & dry paper. Wouldn't dream of spraying primer on the bare card itself. Still nothing beats rivets in brass. Loved your B4 build.
