  1. Oh a Temperance band being barracked by drunken navies. Please oh please........
  2. Don't knock the square piano. Listen to Schubert on a wooden framed one of his day and you'll be stunned. Lovely modelling as usual. When will we see Chatterton sprawled on his garret bed?
  3. Southwold's extension to Dunwich via Walberswick junction is crying out to be modelled.......
  4. Also try a mirror. Surprising what you'll notice.
  5. OK I'll bite. The Skye Bogie has style. The Princesses restrained utility. Know which I'd rather wash and poliish. (I'm told you never catch a fish that keeps it's mouth closed......)
  6. Actually I find the RSU is great for selective removal of bits. Though it's main use is as a nudger. Something a fraction out of true, nudge it with the pointy bit. No need to clean and redo. Worth every penny.
  7. The key to mastering any skill is knowing what to do when it does go wrong, and the great thing about soldering brass is that you can always undo it, clean and retry. Though some days it pays to stop modelling and do something else before it all goes to hell in a handcart. The other morning I sat down and soldered on the cab spectacles prior to fixing the cab front on the footplate. Really neat job with no excess solder.to clean off. Presented it to the footplate and realised I'd soldered them on the inside Wisely took my wife shopping instead.......
  8. Damn, I'm not a lover of resin, but that coach looks too good to miss.
  9. Had you considered Wisbech & U tram coaches? Lovely big end platforms with steps and ironwork. D&S do a kit for both the four and bogie wheeled coaches as well as the accompanying brake van with central corridor access. Enjoyed building these.
  10. Ah figure skating ducks on ice... and underneath a veritable orrery of gears, magnets and rotating beams. Who needs trains?
  11. Connoisseur do a full brass G6 which goes together well (slot and tab). Cab is basic but you can improvise if you check N15's build and the online plans for his O2 which shared a similar one.. Having recently compared a full brass Radial Tank with a white metal Roxey one, the crisper detail of the former is very noticeable. Nothing against Dave as he's such a helpful chap and always worth meeting at the shows
  12. Hi Neil, Reading this thread reminded me that D&S does a kit for the no.16 guards van to go with the Upwelling coaches. Quirky converted GER van with duckets and a central end door with gangway access to the tram cars. Scrapped in 1928 (?) so photos are poor. Nice kit to build.
  13. Spend a day on one of those "Fergys" and your bum is numb......
  14. "I am completely charmed by this layout" Absolutely. It's the unity of the creator's vision. Very distinctive, like a mini- Madder Valley. Wonder if it could be extended...
  15. Delighted to hear this George. I've enjoyed reading about your builds and am looking forwards to your next one.
  16. Have a photo of the chassis fret to pm you, but xmas cold inhibiting brain function. I'll work out posting shortly. Its pretty primitive..... Suspension either N15 or Sandy's "Gordon Castle" 2-4-0 thread.
  17. Merry Christmas Sandy. (I've learn't so much from your postings over the year, so don't take too long away from the bench! )
  18. I've used coloured shoe and/or furniture polish as wood stain. Just thin with the appropriate thinner (usually turps but depends what I have to hand) Slap on and flash over with hot air gun to drive in. Good for quick furniture repairs as well as staining your fingers. One of those mix and match things..
  19. Hi Sandy this looks another interesting build to follow. What thickness of perspex do you use/recommend and how do you attach it to the frames? How secure is it in use? edit for not wearing glasses duh.
  20. I keep forgetting about the Blog section. Maybe it's just because it heads the list without any emphasis. Anyway my bookmark for RMweb goes directly to this forum
  21. Furness are working on the Well Tank. Sadly no example was ready for Telford but it should be well on the way now......
  22. Glad the holiday season is over and Sandy, Jazz and N15 are all back at their workbenches and posting again
