  1. Has anybody ever managed to find a Chinese supply of these awful 50p motors in class 17s? I have managed to source various different motors for other models for Peanuts compared to the utter rip off prices the manufactures want you to pay, but no luck so far with these. I've 3 dead 17s I'd like to resurrect.
  2. Time will tell if the general model buyer is happy with this model or not. I'll keep my eye on ebay prices.
  3. I would be interested to know what the production runs of these new 47s and 37s are compared to say Lima's production runs for the same models from 35 odd years ago. I do remember when Hornby released the Merchant Navy in 2000/2001 they sold in excess of 30000 models in the first 12 months. I fear that manufacturers are chasing a narrower and narrower market with ever higher spec locos at inflation busting price increases. Ours is such a limited market I wonder how long this can carry on before it topples over.....
  4. The crazy world of international trade.......
  5. Yes indeed. I should have made my self clearer. The Accurascale one is IMO perfect rendition of BR dark loco green, and the Dapol GWR Brunswick green is not great.
  6. As somebody who isn't a big fan of GWR locos and wouldn't know if something was slightly the wrong shape just by looking at it, what absolutely leaps out about these two pictures is how good the rendition of BR loco green Accurascale's model is. Dapol's Brunswick green is just wrong. Having painted several full sized locos in my time I find it actually sad that Hornby and to a less extent Dapol just seem incapable of getting GWR and BR greens right.
  7. Im really supprised Oxford have modeled such a rare wagon. However they are sort of the perfect thing for a bit of verity in your rolling stock. 9 is a bit silly really but at the price I've paid, who could say no?
  8. I bought 3 direct from Oxford because they sent me a great bargain. I can't believe what you get for the price I paid! I was expecting the couplings to stick out too far, a common thing on many previous Oxford releases but these are not too bad. However I saw the 3 link coupling with instanter and quickly removed the couplings and used them instead (I have gentle curves) I liked the short rake so much I've bought another 6 from Rails! I'm not knowledgeable enough to say whether these wagons are accurate to the original or not, but I think they look great for a great price.
  9. Isnt a lot of what Hornby does now half arsed? Look at hush hush gate.....

    Dapol Class 22

When I lived in Cornwall in the 80s I knew a couple of drivers who had driven 22s and non of them had a bad word to say about them. One said they were better than the 25s they sent to replace them for getting trains going. He said they just dug their heals in and got on with it unlike the 25s which would slip if you weren't careful. I believe the 21s very bad reputation smeared these fine little locos.
  11. I was very supprised there are not going to be any class 29s in two tone green with small yellow panels as the one they did last time sold out really quickly and the full yellow ended one which was the last to sell out gets two versions this time.... Unless hattons have made a mistake. Great news about the tablet 21s though!
  12. Are the trailing bogie frames fixed on that? I've a feeling that with them fixed there's no way it would negotiate 2nd radius which is an unfortunate requirement. I might have a bash at making mine like the finecast one as I don't have any sharp curves.
  13. i'll scroll back now. only just found the thread. Thanks EDIT.. I see now how they worked. Very interesting. It's going to be quite hard to model one loaded with bricks going by that picture!
  14. The trick with Hermes is to make sure the parcel has lots and lots packaging inside to protect the product. This is not usually an issue because Hermes dimensions are very generous. Get it stuffed full of news paper etc in a large box. This bit of information seems to have been totally lost on Hornby who thought air would suffice......
  15. This modern approach to the trailing pony arrangement being fixed and baldy wheels seems to be okay with some models but other that have a large rear overhang it seems to create too many issues. With this loco being unique having 4 wheels in the pony and a very large overhang I think Hornby could have tried a different approach. Thinking about the recent Heljan/Rails 18000 gas turbine, the bogies on that had a double movement by having a sub bogie free to move inside the visible bogie which had very limited movement. Ignoring the fact that that model struggled with anything less than 4th radius I think that if Hornby had mounted the 4 trailing pony wheels on a free floating sub bogie and then allowed the outside frames to have a limited movement too, that might have had a better outcome?
  16. Not sure how I missed these, two packs on order now. Has anybody come across a picture from overhead of these wagons when loaded with bricks?
  17. The best thing ever to put on meat and tatty pie
  18. It was built right hand drive, as was 18100. That one was converted to left hand drive when it was converted to AC power.
  19. It says in the literature that it will negotiate r3 curves, but my observation is that it won't without doing damage going by the noise it makes.
  20. Couple of observations of this model. 1st even on 3rd radius you can hear the mechanism rubbing on the inside of the body, it also severely slows down. On 4th radius and higher it runs like a dream. Smooth, quiet and powerful. 2nd is the lighting. The single red light works as it should, however only the outer two lower white lights work. The roof light appears to work when the cab lights are on but I think its just the cab light filtering through the hole. The middle centre white light doesn't work at all. 3rdly the bogies are quite a work of art. There is very little movement in the frame, but there is a subframe inside holding the axles that can also turns independently to the outer frames. I'm glad that my layout has no curves tighter than 4th radius. I've already ordered 18100 lol!
  21. Very rare a new model will make me preorder, but this one did!
  22. Hornby, Bachmann, Mainline and Airfix have done livery that version their LMS 4-6-0s that were in LMS straw lined black with the exception of the parallel boiled Patriot. Odd that really.
  23. Unlike other older Hornby models, when the Patriot model went though the changes of moving production to China and fitting better scale wheels, and then conversion to loco drive the bodyshell has never been altered so you can fit the body of an early parallel patriot to the latest Railroad loco drive chassis. I don't think it will fit the super detail rebuilt Patriot chassis though. The B17 for example you couldn't do that.
