Iron van roof colour?
Graham456 replied to richbrummitt's topic in GWR Rolling Stock: model and prototype
Well as the roofs started out white even though the paint might not be the best for use on iron, if ?it was the same paint, knowing the great western I suspect the main reason for it even if it is a bit mad painting something white which is going to get dirty is"...............great western standardisation not going to change my dirty roofs what ever you say as I have a few white roofs on other wagons, and a whole train of them you'd look mad -

Iron van roof colour?
Graham456 replied to richbrummitt's topic in GWR Rolling Stock: model and prototype
Yes see that in the past but ! having helped replaced canvas roofs on preserved stock in the past, slapping layers of white paint onto the canvas to seal it, it wasn't the sort of paint that would be any good to stick to a metal sheet roof, clothes yes ! Putting The proviso in ( not that we could use whitelead anymore ) Haveing seen what can be done to preserved stock (Wallpapered black five ! ) I don't take modern photos as much of a accurate guide to what was done in the past and being involved in building conservation and restoration for Good part of my past life (cleaning and paint removal ) can't believe a unsuitable paint would be put on the metal roof of a van not that that links really tells you what sort of paint was used with no mention of iron roofs not that I clame to be a expert on the GWRs practice just experienced with paint on loads of NT buildings and English heritage buildings -
Iron van roof colour?
Graham456 replied to richbrummitt's topic in GWR Rolling Stock: model and prototype
I have pondered this as well, and my reason for doubting white is that the white comes from the white wash/paint used to weatherproof /seal the canvas covering over a wooden roof, surly a metal roof would not require this treatment? All bit academic as my roofs are dirty anyway! -

White Metal Kits Back To Components
Graham456 replied to RoyalClaud's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
It isn't as good as it used to be! And that's because the nasty stuff (methlinechloride) has been removed but still treat it with respect -
Save that one up for the bank holiday weekend at the end of August! When Burnham train show is on

Graham456 replied to Captain Kernow's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
On my to do pile are two 2-4-0 kits and one 4-4-0 , both have the later part brass chassis and I have a perseverance chassis for the other, Romford wheels to replace ones supplied await use.djh sixty to one gearboxes, and stashed away Little mashimas ready to go , no molded on handrails to be seen missing ingredient?.............time -
Haveing dug out the Hobbytime mink F kit and looked and tried the door framing on the Damo it would be a perfect fit, have thought over night how to make a silicone mold and cast up a couple of doors for the Damo as I can't afford to scrap the mink F kit by pinching the doors off it. But just had a brilliant thought. At railwells modelU will be their where I can get the doors scanned and printed hopefully! If it's a goer might get more than one pair done! Just got to wait till August

Thanks your right reverend !(if I remember right that's how you address a bishop! I had found this one after continuing my hunt after posting this morning, but I think I will have to contact mr Isherwood as these transfers cover BR liveries and not GWR as required hopefully though as the CO lasted into BR some might be on their, fingers crossed -
GWR P17 Ballast Wagon - Kit Build Part 1
Graham456 commented on County of Yorkshire's blog entry in Swindon Works at 53C
Resurrecting a old topic. I was doing some searching on these Ballest wagons as I am also trying to find some CO transfers, now in your post you wonder what CO is for ? Now in the time lap you have probably found out it's simply COnstruction.. now back to looking for these transfers on the web -
Come in No46 ! Haveing picked up a parkside Python at a swapmeet, with such a crap tar brush weathering job done on it,including fogged glazing (Glue !) I decided to do a asmo with it have replaced the sides with some right sized planked plasticard that I had in stock (shock horror) i now need to do the doors, well not now! But soon I would just like some thoughts on what to buy at railwells in August to do the doors with I do have some stick on white metal doors from a Hobbytime mink F .....BUT then I will need doors for the mink F ! If only mainly trains still existed bound to have something and were only walking distance away!

Quote I realise that people do, but they appear to be serial swindlers and ne’er-do-wells. I think DJ is not necessarily of this type, just a dreamer out of his depth. Quote I remain to be convinced. i to am of the under funded dreamer rather than swindler thought's on DJ if he was a swindler nothing would have been produced no J94s of any kind you don't wast time actuly makeing something you go for the kill on say crowdfunding and run.
