  1. Just wondering from the type of worm gear fitted if this motor is not the one for the turntable! Was it not called a X03 ? Haven't bothered checking this but one thing for sure it ain't a Romford bulldog as others have said if you didn't pay a lot for it keep it as a spair
  2. Well alls not lost, the Peco Parkside Mink D I have just built this week has metal axel plastic centre (spokes) and a metal tyre, just like the old keen maygib wheels of old, not a full plastic wheel on a metal axel as in old Airfix wagon wheels,so the bit that al matters is metal
  3. Well it might not look like polystyrene have a shiny greasy look but normal liquid polystyrene glue sticks if very well to wagon (kit) floors can't comment about sticking to rtr wagon underframes the black plastic melts/softens as you would expect for it to stick with liquid poly..type glue ...remember that name? Can you still get it ........don't worry happy with contacta personly I would not use superglue finding it brittle with shock loads like a heave shunt
  4. Yes but frustrating if you go on the Guinness tour NOTHING is to be found,it's all kept behind the scenes unless you trespass down the side where some track work on the road can be found P S don't do as I did and ask what a real ale Guinness tasted like rather than a top gas beer !
  5. Gerrr ! i am proberly the closest member livening nearest to staplegrove, but can I get to the show early! No my guests won't get up for breakfast yours raring to go and eat pasties, talk pasties, drool over pasties,
  6. Straying a bit from the models but trying to sort out which one of the two it was that as a twelve year old I crawled all over at Barry it was Blue I am sure? As I couldn't believe such "new" thing was in the scrap yard. And what I can remember is that the cylinder heads were off as I could peer down at the pistons, "Ginormous to a kid" interested to know if anyone knows which one it might be so I can buy a souvenir of it from Cornwall, but not in the same condition! I might add ! At the time I didn't waste any film from my Ilford sportsman on such a thing !
  7. I don't know old of a model it is, but when my four year oil 31 chassis started growing ! I sent it back to Hornby for them to repair, I wonder if sending the whole thing back to Hornby is option for repair for you. it doesn't have to be a warrantee repair for them to do it, but their service is excellent and they might raid a new model for a bit for you
  8. Well thank you all I now have a van which looks believable and I have done the tarpaulins in a different shade of gray to the roof, but I am wondering if a more black tarpaulin shade would be better than gray shade it currently is your thoughts ? Whilst at it with the paint out I repainted another L&Y van that was in LMS gray but had a brown varnish Finnish (hard to describe) as a LMS it was numbered 152357 which is not one of the number sequence given for L&Y livery by MAJ in the instructions The numbers 7724, 14219 and 22567 are given would a 152xxx be use able to keep a bit of history from the previous owner? This one has no roof openings to copy which is why I had to ask! When building my own
  9. WHAT is that the same Peter's spares as mentioned in the original posters posting suggesting he knows about them ?
  10. I am wondering from the wording (broke of the axel) if it's not a case of needing a new wheel but that the little stub axel has broken off the main chassis block ? So it's a new tender drive chassis that is really needed not as scary as it sounds tomathee
  11. Compound2632 thank you that picture is worth a thousand words does that van only have a hatch on one side ? I am guessing this as the side battens stop short for haveing both sides opening not a problem as I can modify it to suit my version it also confirms what I was going / thinking to do in the door top area
  12. Dont get to upset now it's to late to correct the roof on your cattle vans be comforted by the fact they are better than Bachmann offering
  13. And back in what was it 78 DCC didn't really exist in great quantitys it may even may have came out pre zero one and Airfix MTC but what I do remember is the box of 500 plunger pick ups we had in the shop I worked in so even in 12volt days we got through them all right, I got very accomplished in changing them, P S only have two left of the stock I bought to keep my four going fourty years ago
  14. Just Reviving this topic from the grave, because I have just got around to building one these MAJ sliding door vans and I wish to put the roof hatches on mine, or I have to now as I have put the end stanchons on in a V so I have to, but now matter how many times I read the instructions, can I understand what to do, I have found a couple of pictures only one of which gives a clue but even then being a side view it doesn't show the top do I just put a frame of micro strip on the roof with a frame inside that representing the canvas hatches I would like to have the hatches as the other wagons I have of this type were picked up at swapmeets and the builders chickened out so they don't have hatches ! cheers Graham P S don't think it matters but doing in L&Y livery
  15. Sorry you didn't say you wanted a cheep job ! Just a answer that couldn't resist giving as my 48xx was next to me actually it should be a simple job to fit a smaller motor in the space, just a shame that won't sort out the problems (mechanical) with the Airfix running gear. plunger pick ups, striped gears, rocking on the traction tyres, to my mind the motor is the most reliable bit,but I can't argue about it being intrusive
  16. They Did ! They Did ! i am looking at my Airfix 48xx (14xx to New for me). with a portscrape ! In it rather than hacksawing the chassis apart to fit a new motor just bung a comet chassis under it sorts out the traction tyres at the same time? And gives you a gap between boiler and frames. Sorted !
  17. Thanks for the video of the show SDJR7F88 had a great flash back moment around 4.20 when the WD 280 started going around with a bit of cotton wool comeing out of the chimney , very chigley/ trumpton esk Took me back to being a kid when the song "I like rideing on a train" as the little puffs of wool were pulled out of the chimney in the show worryingly once I stopped sniggering ,I thought it looked better than nothing comeing out of the chimney!
  18. Haven't tried it because I haven't need to But ! How about a spring from a biro ! Cut down
  19. You will notice I declined to add any more on that subject ! O YES PLEASE !!! Can I NOT have the spinach and cabbage pie thank you but if that's the only option i will have one of my own breakfasts at my own bed and breakfast just up the road thank you very much being the owner I can have as much bacon on the plate as I like
  20. Thanks dunsignalling that confirms I have a dud as I have the maroon now know to be cat No B26 knew it ! Thankfully paint faids so their might not be a lot between the colours with a bit of dirt.?
  21. Thanks Jason mystery solved thank you. mine dates back to 1985 then, I couldn't find it on line or in my Ramsey's guide ! Bound to one of the two fictional ones you mention ! But I have been thinking it was time to get a newer up to date version a thought that you have proved I must action I will go and recheck though as it's newer than 1985 ? Johnster I don't need to pad out with kit versions the ready to run has joined four kit built' as mentioned in my post and I don't believe a train would consist of many more, I am just a bit gob smacked I missed out on the ready to run models existence your right as to the chassis but in its defence it's finer than the ancient kit chassis thanks and for the tip about which chassis to replace the kit chassis as these would be the first priority due to the heaviness of these mouldings. as for the wheels these are very clean for a thirty four year model as it is my belief that the plastic wheels do NOT make the dirt, if they did they would get dirty despite being not used as this model hasen't and no it wasn't in a box to protect them, I always though the dirt on the rails sticks to plastic wheels rather than the wheels making the dirt. ( controversy do plastic wheels clean the track ?) all a bit of a irrelevance as I prefer metal wheels anyway and who would be daft enough to keep the plastic wheels the Old kits came with !
  22. Whilst perusing a junk/vintage store in seaton yesterday I came across a Dapol meat van yes exactly the same one as per the Old airfix come Dapol kit But the body is a one piece moulding with non opening doors and pegs to clip on their clip on chassis. Which is branded Dapol England With the clip in couplings, now thankfully it matches in well with how I have built the kits in the past,so will blend in well with them but can I find any thing about it ? or even when Dapol made a meat van, the same as the kit model. It's certainly not in their currant listings nor did a search reveal anything it has plastic wheels on a steel axel which dates it to a few years ago and not a currant model is listed O! we are talking about 00" and I am enquiring because I might like some more to pad out a train with few ?
  23. Err only problem with that is that a I pad doesn't have a keyboard? Will cleaning the screen do ? Not every one is a Microsoft slave you know, and I don't even own this it's my son's castoff
