Nice to see a Vax in there. I have a logical map of the Arpanet on my office wall from 1977 and it is almost exclusively DEC machines. The Digital Equipment Corporation were responsible for writing much of the network protocol software that we use every day without thinking about it. Back in around 1992, our Vax cluster was connected to the fledgling Internet with a 2Mbit Wide-Ethernet backbone. We were very proud of the fact that we had the same bandwidth as the whole of Yugoslavia!

Morning All, Time for me to check in, having been absent for a few days. I went to a meeting on Friday, came back on Saturday and promptly went down with something. I've spent the past two days at home, but it seems to have improved this morning. At least enough that I made it to work! It has been a very windy few days, but seems calmer this morning. Morning All, It is a fairly chilly -1°C this morning, but according to the weather forecast it is likely to reach 20°C this afternoon - making it the warmest February day ever. On the subject of non-conformists - my Dad had a colleague back in the 70s who used to keep a small address book of cheap places to stay while on business trips. He reckoned he could stay anywhere in the country without spending anything more than some ridiculously small amount of money. My Dad travelled with him a few times and said they ended up in all manor of flea pit B&Bs, non-conformist hostels and temperance hotels. He said it was certainly an interesting experience - but strangely enough, nobody wanted to take the book over when the guy retired! Have a good day everyone...

Morning All, It is a reasonable morning in this part of the world. Somewhat chilly (around -1°C) but nothing out of the ordinary for the time of year. We did have a fairly heavy frost today. On the subject of keyboards, I almost exclusively use a German one - regardless of whether I am writing English or German. The most noticible difference being the swapping of the "Y" and "Z". Some of the characters are not as easily accessible as they are on a US/UK keyboard, but you tend to get used to it. (For example { is <Alt Gr>-7, @ is <Alt Gr>-q and € is <Alt Gr>-E) - This is primarily because of the addition of öäü and ß. I also have a key for grave and acute accents. Morning All, We had fantastic weather over the weekend. The mornings are still pretty cold (-3°C on the way to work today) but it has been sunny and clear during the day. Saturday was partially spent in the garden, getting some pruning and tidying done before everything starts to shoot. Sunday was spent doing relatively little, apart from going for a walk.
