  1. I love this Chris, you've done a good job here. If I had just one really tiny criticism it would be that I wish you had curved the platforms. Keep up the good work!
  2. How many 37s?? Jeez.....I thought I was barking mad with my HSTs!!! It was great reading through this thread and noticing how your weathering and detailing skills grew over the course of a few years. Keep up the good work
  3. James, I look at stuff everyday on this website and I never cease to be amazed at peoples modelling skills. Whether it's the O Gauge boys and their life like locos, the N Gauge Micro Midgets like myself, or the OO Gauge nutters like you lot.... ...I struggle to get my head around the amount of detail that serious modellers (and I think I'm pretty serious) manage to add. Where you find the time to do things is beyond me! I can't wait until you bring the layout to Pompey so I can actually see it for real
  4. Make sure you use the Lima MK3s so that you can take the windows out. The later Hornby ones have the windows stuck in!
  5. Just read through this entire thread and you should give yourself a massive pat on the back for everything you've achieved. The Tanker Terminal is something else and I wish I had your patience and ability to build things! Mike
  6. Hahaha Ian.... I hope they do, I've bought two!! Can't believe Hattons said they weren't getting them until next month and then they arrive the next day!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr!
  7. Just bought mine today direct from Dapol as after calling 5 shops no-one knew when they were arriving. One even told me the end of February!! Ok, so I paid £12 more (bought 3) due to impatience but who cares. Dapol were effortless to deal with!
  8. Steve Do you know if the 47 will be available with cut away buffer beams? I don't fancy having to file the front down to convert it for my 57! Cheers Mike
  9. That bracket looks great! I'm just using the aluminium channel because it's cheap - I've also made some aluminium L shaped brackets to hold the frog switch (I've used mini micro switches from a UK ebay shop)
  10. What did you use to to glue the channel to the board with?
  11. I need 4 TGS (XC, FGWx2 and VT). I hope they hurry up. I tried to buy the XC TGS at Warley but Joel wasn't having any of it!
  12. I'll be happy to buy some from you Brian as I thought I'd have to 'cut and shut' the Easy-Build ones - probably a bit beyond my new found modelling skill level
  13. Sorry to resurrect this this thread (and change the Gauge) but I have just tried to use a code 55 long crossing with code 55 large radius points and they don't line up very well for some reason. The crossing seems to have a shallower angle than the points. I'm assuming that N gauge is the same template for OO when using streamline track?
  14. If Pete does a 47 I'll definitely buy one regardless of the price - it'll make it much things much easier for me to turn it in to a 57/6 too He also told me to keep on at him to make some MK3s as the current brass efforts don't have the correct end recess or windows and door drop lights, so, next time you speak to him Steve, perhaps you could ask him to produce them Cheers Mike
  15. Hi Brian I'm so pleased I found this thread as I'm going to attempt to make a 'cheapy' TC from some Lima MK1s and some Easy-Build bogies/window etches. My standard of modelling is nowhere near yours but it's still nice to see how it's done professionally Just a quick question. Are you adding the small windows either side of the door and if so what are you using because from memory of travelling on these things, they appear to be smaller than normal MK1 windows? Cheers Mike
  16. Having just read through this thread in it's entirety (I should be hard at work), I think I'll give up kit building now, before I've even started (and I've only got a class 47 diesel to modify)! How you can make something so precise, including fabricating your own scale size parts is completely beyond my comprehension and I take my hat off to you, and everyone else who possess such amazing skills. Being 49, I grew up with diesels and electrics so steam is not my cup of tea but I cannot help but love this article and the brilliant model you've made. I'd like to say that you've inspired me but I'm now even more convinced that I'll stick to RTR! Well done that man! Mike
  17. Just ordered a starter kit for our N Gauge club exhibition layout. We have 51 points to control so I'll let you know how I get on.
  18. I'll let you know what silver I use which may help you. There's been a couple of really good efforts on ebay of late too. Good luck and keep us updated with pictures.
  19. The doors are actually metallic silver (I rode on this train on Sunday). I'm doing a N Gauge version using Railtech transfers - not the easiest thing to do given the size. Are you sure that the matt green is the same as the glossy green? It looks darker in real life?
  20. Ben I'm still gutted I ran out of time to pledge but nevertheless, I'm still determined to own one of these trains, and, like a few others, I have no use for it at all (our club layout is based on a modern day Meon Valley line).......... but who cares. It's going to be such a great model. Do you have a retail price for it yet? Cheers Mike
  21. Just another observation on this - the coaches don't have ladders at each end, they are on opposite corners from what I've seen!
  22. Thanks for pointing out the different roof colour, I didn't know this! I managed to get the correct TRFB (I think that's the right description) from Warley last year for £15 but I just cannot find any TFO or TSO HST coaches anywhere. I have a couple of Farish ones but they aren't anywhere near as good and are too high!
  23. I've just read through this thread as I'm trying to source additional Virgin coaches for my HST. The Farish ones are awful compared to Dapol but I'm stuck unless I take the loco hauled ones and cut the buffers off and run the wrong numbers! Why oh why did Dapol not just make unumbered coaches and supply transfers with different numbers? I much prefer my Dapol HST to my Farish one but I'm getting really annoyed at not being able to complete my train! I'd also like a rerun of the Neon FGW bookset too.
  24. Does this mean I can't get it for the original price that you told me about at Warley? Cheers Mike
