  1. Oh, an Aberdare would have been amazing.
  2. I know people would have liked the pannier.. But, I'd love a 28xx.. I do look from time to time for a Hornby one, but it's such a mixed bag and then that added issue of converting to DCC put me off paying the kind of money people are asking.. Well done Dapol. I love my Prairie, I'll have a 43xx when you release it and now looks like I need to pre-order a 28xx for next year!
  3. I was going to ask, when we might see the 43xx, it's been a while.. A long while.. You also can't appear to pre-order a sound version, and I'm sure there will be one.. So maybe that's it there!
  4. Oh, I saw the Siphons had landed, but didn't see any Manor news. I've a holiday at the end of the month, so I can guess the arrival date!
  5. Sometimes you have to just do it. If the layout isn't working, then it's best to just get on with it. I didn't want to take my last one apart, it was really hard to start pulling it apart. But, now I've got a cracking start to my next one. I then suspect in 6 years I'll do the same again!
  6. The classic GWR Airfix B-Set, 2 coaches. Good condition includes the boxes. Not sure how you do it as a nice advert.. So £20 the pair, £2.99 shipping with Evri.
  7. Ah yes, the odd yellow ish ones. I've got another restaurant car that matches that description somewhere, it sits high on the bogies in comparison too. Did a quick scan on ebay, there are loads of them! So probably not worth running and not worth selling either! I then fell into an abys of comet coach sides.. I could cut and shut them into something else ;)
  8. What is the general opinion of the older Hornby Collets? I'm pretty sure I had a restaurant car too, but I can't find it right now. I used to run these 3 as part of the centenary rake, but I've got more than enough of those now to run a full rake. So these have just been sat in a box.
  9. Rubbing down coaches with wet and dry soaked in IPA is pretty serious paint stripping.. Something I've not attempted. I assume they were in a pretty sorry state? Not even sure I've ever seen the slaters coaches in the wild!
  10. Should try a yard crane connected to a servo....
  11. Nice.. But, they are not cheap!
  12. Sometimes it's a really challenge between what I want to do and of course what the kids want to do. We spent a couple of hours last night connecting up a hand held controller onto the 009, but I had to start the wiring at somepoint! This morning I progressed with the engine shed and also relayed the track around it as it has been temporary. I think the shed does a pretty good job of hiding the fact the headshunt is on such a curve behind it. Really need to think about the back boards and get some colour into the layout.
  13. The narrow gauge has made it to ground level and we now have a transfer siding..
  14. You've made some really nice progress. Looking forward to seeing some movement..
  15. That's really nice, cracking. As for pulling power, mine is about the same.. 3 coaches or a decent good train.. No were did I put some of those washes 😀
  16. Those pictures look amazing.. Looking forward to getting mine, with sound :)
  17. Dean looks nice, given me some ideas for mine.. But yes, mine isn't all that powerful. As Russell mentioned, it could well be the centre drivers that are causing it to slip. Mind you, not sure what I would then do about it!!
  18. Thanks.. The left-hand contact strips screw will need a short piece of thin tube and a Plastikard washer made up for the front side to fit under the screw head!! It could work, but then actually getting power from the now isolated live chassis is going to be a challenge.. DCB - I have to agree, I'm not sure it's worth it.. In all likelihood it won't run as well as I want and will be condemned back into the box..
  19. Trying to answer my own question.. I think I need a plastic screw to replace the one that's connected to the live chassis! (Ebay here I come)
  20. I'm sure this has been answered a few times, but with all the old pictures missing I couldn't find any solid advice. I have an old Horny County from my childhood, it still runs well but only comes out for club nights as I'm all DCC. Looking at the tender, one side of the pickup is via a live chassis. :( Is there any advise to isolate the left connector from the chassis, get a feed to the chip and then also still hold that tab in place? Honestly feels like this one might be a little too tricky for a 80s loco...
  21. I went down with my free ticket, and one child ticket that I paid for. Had a cracking show, really great across the 3 halls. We were there from 9.30am to about 3pm. Spent quite a lot of money at each stall, there were some interesting ones, squires is always good and they had a massive stall! There were some of the other general sales which were selling the same boxes at pretty much the same price. Also had a quick chat will Phil as my son had a go at the tombola. Come on Phil, build a PDF kit - https://www.pdf-models.co.uk/ My only comment would be I was glad I took my own sandwiches. The cafe didn't look large enough, with people queuing down and round the corner. That said, we did had a nice slice of cake just before we left ;)
  22. Richard - The idea is to continue down to the goods yard in the background. I've already cut the lower station board to allow the track to drop down. I wanted to keep the upper station as high as I could to be clear of the fiddle yard, which set how much height I could loose over the distance. Hence it's about 4.5cm off the deck. But actually, I think the difference in height really helps the front of the layout. As for the point - Motor already in. The join may look like it's there, but it's not ;)
  23. Very dangerous... I could have spent much more. Really had a cracking day, some amazing 0 gauge GWR on display.
  24. What to do with a bank holiday weekend? We went to the Bristol exhibition and ended up buying a Double Fairlie.. I've now added a 009 loop over the fiddle yard and into what will be a bottom station..
