  1. G'Day Folks I was a secondman in the early/mid 70's at KX. There was quite a bit of goods work at the time. A regular turn was a class 8 goods from Peterborough to KX goods, leaving Peterborough around 2030, arriving KX goods around midnight, usually loaded to 600 tons. at Least 5 trip workings to & from Temple Mills & KX goods. running round at opposite Finsbury Pk Diesel depot and going over the hump at Temple Mills. One interesting shunt job was, travelling out to Bounds Green to shunt coal wagons ay Charringtons yard at the old Palace Gates station, then shunting at Rowntrees chocolate wagons, opposite the old Wood Green tunnel sidings, when that was done, it was through Wood Green station to the sand yard, were again we shunted the wagons around. manna
  2. G'Day Folks A very faded LNER on the tender of the J39, would look good. manna
  3. G'Day Folks Certainly looks like a GN church. manna
  4. G'day Folks N1 cabs were rather austere, that cab is a bit over the top !!!!!! manna
  5. G'Day Folks I bought some Aussi models back to the UK over 30 years ago, and was pulled up by security when they X Rayed my luggage, I had to explain what all the wires and double ended T's were, after an explanation that they were model loco motors and wheels and axles, I was allowed to board my flight. Hope Jessie doesn't pulled over. Terry (aka manna)
  6. G'Day Shaun I'm a Capricorn, so I won't be a bully, take your time, but don't hide your N1 in a dry stone wall !! manna
  7. G'Day Folks 200 wagon hauler there. really should have tried her out on the ECML. ( I know, the refuge siding weren't big enough). manna
  8. G'Day Folks Looking good Shaun, where's your N1 !! manna
  9. G'Day Folks Yes that was a quick build, but I believe you've built one before !! Now I have to ask, have you enough wagons for it to 'Push or Pull' ????? manna
  10. G'Day Folks An update on the tenders !, the first one I built for the K3 turned out to be an Stirling tender, so I've built a new one, this time an Ivatt one with the correct 7'x6' wheelbase, instead of the 6'6"x6'6" I had already produced, we're getting there. The Stirling tender is now behind a J3, 4100, which didn't have a good tender, but it has now. The 'Green' J3, has had a new boiler fitted, as I didn't like the old one. The tender top has been pinched for the K3, but I still have the chassis for it, that, I'll be starting very soon, as I'll heading for Queensland in a month, I want to have them all finished before I go. A Parkside LNER cattle wagon has also been started, something to do while the glue is drying. manna
  11. G'Day Folks I was a fairly regular spotter at Wood Green in the late 50's and early 60's I can remember WD's rumbling and clanking through Wood Green with regular monotony, can't remember a 9F, although they must have come through. Unfortunately, I lost my Ian Allan books back in 1964 when I came to Oz. manna
  12. G'Day Folks I can remember walking around 'Our' narrow gauge Garratts. they were huge. As you can see below, the engine is longer than the train. manna
  13. Hi Chas The Sentinel is powered by 'Don't laugh'..............a Lima HST power bogie, it runs very well, I often get it to tow a fish wagon or two, it's great fun running it around it's train and shunting it in to the goods yard. I found the the pics of the Sentinel on the internet, I just kept opening windows until I found them, think it was something to do with North Eastern branch lines. There's a build for it on my LNER Encyclopedia, thread, page 26 onwards. manna
  14. G'Day Chas Yes all the seating is plastic, looks OK through the window The seats lock into a curved block on the floor, probably only move 25/30 degrees from vertical, so look a bit upright. I have two other pics in the inside of a Sentinel railcar, one is looking through the cab, the other shows the drive under the floor in the brake van area and part of the passenger compartment seating. manna
  15. G'Day Folks North London in the late 50's, still had horse drawn wagons, the 'Rag and Bone' man had one, even the Council dustcarts still had a couple of Shire horse's towing large green trailers, used to take carrots out and give them one each, as an eight year old they towered over me, then one day (around 1960) they disappeared and smelly tractors took over. manna
  16. G'Day Chas The seats on the Sentinels had a tubular frame, the back was double sided and the seat part would slide through under the back part when you moved the back. Looked a bit like these. The Sentinel in the background was made out of a Hornby LNER Brake 3rd. manna
  17. G'Day Folks I thought A5's were rubber...........One size fits all ! manna
  18. G'Day Folks Small update, on the GN tenders, the K3's is almost finished, the J3 is coming together. manna
  19. G'Day Folks You might be on the same latitude as Barcelona, but you are many thousands of feet higher. Love the Idea of you tramping around the North West in 'Bigfoot' boots, but don't wear your 'Afgan' coat. manna
  20. G'Day Folks Well I've managed to get all the work done on the caravan, a couple more bits need to be finished, but I can at least get the workbench working again. First up, is the chassis for the W1, made from a secondhand stripped Hornby LNER Pacific, just the bare bones with a motor, all the other bits have been bought and added, still untested, we'll get to that later. The 'Edging' to the K3's new cab has also been completed, fiddley B****y job, but it does finish it off. Two GN tender chassis are in the process of being built ( one is shown) if you'd like a more in-depth set of pics, let us know. manna
  21. G'Day Folks Big innit............not really a shunter ! manna
  22. G'Day Folks Funny you should say that, I've got a D11 body for just that purpose and a old Tri-ang Princess chassis for it, might be a year or two before it gets built. manna
  23. G'Day Folks Looking forward to this build, I see a challenge ........ manna
  24. G'Day Folks In a early post on this thread, I said a Streamlined B17 turned up at Kings Cross, but couldn't find the pic, well I've found it, I think it's 'City of London' manna
  25. G'Day Folks The D11 is a goldmine of GC bit's, two locos have been converted (so far) one was converted into a B2, using a re-wheeled 'Jinty' chassis, the other was converted into a B8, but this time using a re-wheeled Wren R1 chassis. Each of the original loco's were cut and lengthened, both had there boilers replaced, but keeping there fire and smokeboxes. manna
