  1. Posted to the Class 40 Appreciation Society Facebook page by Mersey Railway Photos - D279 Liverpool Lime Street Station 17th April 1962. Facebook Group page: Class 40 Appreciation Society
  2. The Class 40 Preservation Society has announced today that their stock of sound fitted D211 has arrived from Bachmann and will be on sale at their stand on East Lancs Railway, Bury this weekend. Mail orders welcome !
  3. My example runs poorly but I've only tried it on a straight test track (no curves or points yet). It ran fine out of the box but after a few short minutes it ground to a halt. Vigorous pushing too and fro 2 or 3 times gets it going again - for a while. What I don't get is the talk of pick-up mods. The lights on mine are always on so surely current collection from the wheels isn't the issue, just the motor ??? Confused... :scratchhead:
  4. As good a Class 50 sound as you can get...
  5. Nice looking but sound not particularly thrashing at speed - ripe for a re-blow me thinks!...
  6. Please remember that discounted examples are also available from the Class 40 Preservation Society - I think they need the money more!! ;-) (See message above)
  7. The book written by the line's true experts is currently a bargain £6.95 (£8.95 hardback) post free ! rowsley-rrc.html

  10. So who has the best pre-order price then, chaps ? I missed out on a Blue Pullman with blue ends by dithering - not going to happen with a split blue 40 !
  11. As you might imagine, the Summer 1953 WTT will take rather longer to transcribe !
  12. And the even sparser Sunday service ! https://www.dropbox.com/s/3gq7npq4tzfunbt/Peak%20Line%20Passenger%20WTT%20Sundays.pdf
  13. As posted to the Millers Dale in N pages... If you want to run authentic head codes and workings, here's the penultimate WTT for passenger trains 1966-67 a year before closure. Stopping times are bold, else just passing times are shown. What strikes you is how quick trains were between stops despite the line being in its death throws and relatively sparse traffic by this time! https://www.dropbox.com/s/iwh0av0jx8iphni/Peak%20Line%20Passenger%20WTT.pdf

  15. Speaking of which, I've found my 40ft-1" rating plan of Millers Dale station if you think it would be of use? It's a big 'un!
  16. That was on the famous Westinghouse 1 mile long test train just after the line closed. Have you got a spare 99 ferry wagons ?
  17. It was posted on the Bakewell of Yesteryear Facebook page - sadly I don't have any more details.
  18. There is now a good case for buying a Banger Blue class 37 as well :-) https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152068884552835
  19. Oh look - banger blue peaks :-) https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152064140422835
  20. Glynn Waite of the Rowsley Association advises:- "The very last passenger train was 1H18 16.20 St. Pancras to Manchester Piccadilly on Saturday 29th June 1968. This train left Matlock approximately 20 minutes late at 19.35 hauled by D80 [in blue livery] with 8 coaches and a van. Relief signalman Herbert Taylor, who worked the last shift at Church Lane Crossing, recorded that the train past his box at 19.39" Herbert took the above photograph which is published in Rowsley - A Rural Railway Centre - now available at a bargain price ! http://nicwhe8.freehostia.com/pynot/railway/rowsley-rrc/rowsley-rrc.html
  21. This may also be of interest - the very sad sight of the demolition train. This was posted in the old Bakewell Facebook page...
  22. Probably a bit late now but finally the footbridge - the plans were drawn in 1960 for a proposal to raise the height by over a 1 ft - I cannot confirm whether the works actually took place.
