Actually I thought they looked like extras from an early 1970s police drama. (As I drove past)

Did you hear anyone saying "hold it you sl*g you're f*****g nicked"?  Or have I been watching too much tv?

I'm a fan of water softeners but SWMBO isn't - says she has to use too much water rinsing her hair but won't reduce the amount of shampoo she uses. That was a battle I was never going to win so I surrendered.

Did you mention releasing too much shampoo into the system kills fluffy wuffy likkle kitten wittens, seahorses and unicorns?  This usually helps to reduce use.

Car serviced OK with no problems and duly collected. Whilst I was waiting for my lift to the garage I was half watching "Escape to the Country" on TV. The couple involved were searching for a new home in Dorset and one of the places they visited was Tolpuddle and the Martyrs Inn was mentioned. When the couple were asked about the Tolpuddle Martyrs they said they had never heard of them. The Boss and I were both somewhat gobsmacked as this particular couple were teachers!

Is it me? Is there something wrong here or am I just an MOG* who expects too much from our educational professionals these days?

Unless there is a fault you always need the same amount of energy to heat the same amount of water.

They only way of saving energy is not to Overfill the kettle..

A friend put any remaing boiled water into a thermos for the next kettle.  Bit extreme I thought.

Back from Derby via No. 1 son's place in Chesterfield but now there's a warning light on the car's dashboard that the manual states to be something about the catalytic converter so it'll have to go and see the nice man at the garage tomorrow. There's allus bl**dy summat as the French say.

I also plan on getting the plywood for my ba***oards ordered.

Until then, nighty-night all. Sleep tight.

Wouldn't the French be more likely to say "ah putain!" or "encule"? :D

  6. ChrisF, the model shop is marginally closer to Central but isn't too far from either station.  The ironbridge in another country would cross a tempestuous swollen river but in Exeter it crosses ..... well .... hardly anything apart from a valley ..... it is just surrounded by buildings.

George's Meeting House is a Wetherspoons more central in Exeter but it isn't the most inspired conversion of a church that I have seen.  The White Hart, an old coaching inn, in the same street is much nicer.  Just 10 mins walk away the old quays provide some good places to eat, drink and have pleasant scenery.

  7. I found an old labelled & still corked bottle today in my late Fathers collection of "useful one day things."

I have Googled it and apart from the company name showing a connection to Bakelite in one Google whack, I can find nothing else.

If anybody has any idea for what purpose J W Sharplin Ltd, London, N8 produced their Sharplinx (trade mark) "EDGEFIN" (ink and heel ball combined) please let me know. I can only guess it is a shoe makers product.

  8. Overcast day in sunny Teignmouth today. Hoping for sun later.

I did a few jobs yesterday including fixing up a new exterior light with sensor and hacking down next doors ivy & brambles to stop it invading my garden.  Just need to tidy up the dining table that currently houses my genealogical research files etc.

Teignmouth council brought forward by a month the dog ban on the main town beach.  Dogs can only be walked for the summer on the eastern beach ie alongside the seawall.  Dog walkers are up in arms as there are nil sun bathing beach users at the moment.  However in a cunning twist, the sand has left the main beach and it is just stones and boulders.  The council are now debating what to do about these stones and boulders.

Meanwhile the eastern beach is full of lovely recently deposited sand.  No dog walkers will turn an ankle on it.

Just heard on the news of the death of Tommy Smith, former Liverpool FC skipper and hard man. I'm no soccer fan but I did meet him very briefly once when he was one of the after dinner speakers at one of my firm's management conferences. Most vivid memory of that hilarious talk was his "dislike" (that's putting it mildly) of his former team mate, "The No 6" who he never once referred to by name. I also remember him hobbling very badly which ISTR he put down to all the injuries over the years and is not surprising to anyone who has taken part in any form of contact sport.

RIP Tommy,  you made me laugh!

    Good morning one and all

Thanks to Mike Stationmaster for his views on the Imperial in Exeter.  It’s tempting, but it is the furthest ‘Spoons from the city centre and it is a lot closer to the place where the procession ends than to the place where it assembles.  I will be based at the Travelodge by M5 Junction 30 for the weekend and will be reliant on buses to get me around.  The transport network map on the internet is less than coherent but I’ll see if I can make sense of it over the weekend.  Obviously I would rather have breakfast at a ‘Spoons than a motorway service area – who wouldn’t?

We seem to be blessed with culture lovers.  Not only is JohnDMJ an aficionado of Pyewackett but he has a better memory of past conversations than I do!  Now Rick shows the flag for Fisherman’s Friends.  As he speculates, I have seen them a couple of times, at Sidmouth, and have either two or three of their CDs.  One of their songs, not from the tradition, is a bit of an earworm – “No-Hopers, Jokers and Rogues”.   I suspect that they were induced to record it by their producer, who just happens to have written it.  Oldest trick in the book …

It is high time that I paid a return visit to the LGBT group.  A meeting is scheduled for this afternoon.  There will not be many there but the conversation can be interesting.  I wonder what they will say when I tell them that I will be walking in the procession at Pride in London?  Hate my guts, probably.

    Best wishes to all

    Chris

The Imperial is only about a 10-15 min walk from the town and Central station, its 5 mins from St Davids and its on the bus routes. Plus factor, if you walk via the ironbridge to town you can visit the model shop.
