  1. That's how it used to work; now i have to give it a nudge to get it ti turn at all
  2. Sorry @Jonboy , just seen your reply. No, no dimmer switches at all. I've given up on it now and bought a new fan. Just trying to muster the will to fit it. :(
  3. Reading the comments on this incident, I was reminded of the film, 'Sully:Miracle on the Hudson' about the emergency landing of a plane on the Hudson River and the subsequent attempt to discredit the pilot. The evidence against him included numerous scenarios of alternative possible actions which could have been taken. The pilot's response was that these scenarios had been investigated over weeks/months. He only had seconds to make a decision. We've all looked back at things we have done 'in the heat of the moment' and thought of different ways we could have handled the situation, but when you're sat in your car and a train is heading straight for you, panic often reigns and common sense disappears.
  4. Thanks Andy; do you think the paint will be dry before the fix is sorted :)
  5. I find it surprising that relatively large organisations are still using 'paper' forms. I may have shared before but I was really surprised during a stay in hospital a few years back to see paper charts at the foot of each bed, and folders made up for each patient. The only person using an electronic device was the person taking the orders for meals.
  6. It's probably something I've done, but I'm on RMWeb premium and the ads have reappeared. I've cleared cookies, logged out and back in. When I go to the themes, it shows the premium option but wont let me select it. Help please!!!! PS: Only seems to be happening on the 'price increases ' thread in the Accuraascale/Irish Railways thread???

    EBay madness

Reminds me of the time I was on an early morning flight. I don't admit to understand the workings of the units used to start the engines, but on this occasion they failed miserably. After about the sixth attempt, some bright spark at the back of the plane pipes up, If we all get out and push, will it bump start.
  8. Caused no doubt by doubling up on the shortening process.

  11. Thanks for the responses; I will go ahead and book now.
  12. Not wishing to get into the politics of rail strikes here but: SWMBO are having a few days in Bath in December. We were intending to pre-book for the train journey from Plymouth, but with the current situation with industrial action, I'm wondering what happens if a strike is called on the day(s) we've booked. Do we get a refund; can we transfer the tickets to another day, or do we just lose our money?

I think I see your point!
  14. If women were allowed in this sect, SWMBO would be high up in the ranks
  15. I've just fitted a new pull switch to our 3 speed ceiling fan. Unusually for me I checked which wire went to each connection on the old switch before I disconnected it. After the usual hassle when I try to to anything like this, I managed to wire it up and fitted. It now only works on one setting and takes much longer to start moving than it did before. My limited electrical knowledge suggests that the connections are wrong, but I don't want to just start swapping wires around. Any suggestions welcomed

Love the illustration: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265880911711?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=HCPqukoAT5W&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=zGBHSdYdRyy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Makes you wonder what you're actually getting!
  17. I realised I would have a reverse loop, (2 in fact) and had worked that through. I think I shall go back to the original plan, as l said earlier, I think the scissors crossing was a step too far for me.
  18. Thanks AndyID Exactly what I needed.
  19. I guess quite a few might have been referred to as female canines by the driver and fireman when they wouldn't steam properly. :)
  20. I think I was being over ambitious, (par for the course with me), but that was the idea. I eventually want to connect it to the 'scenic' part of the layout. Originally I was going to have two reversing loops, both feeding into the fiddle yard, so that I could run a train off the scenic part, from either direction, then send it back the opposite way. For some reason I just like the look of a scissors crossing (sad person) so thought I could use it to form/link the two reverse loops. I think I'll go back to two separate reverse loops, and put he scissors crossing back on ebay :)
