  4. Hi Penrhos This is part of an investigation to determine if Comet sides or a full Comet kit would be easier. At the moment it looks like three cuts to the body to get the compartment lengths right but this then requires two roof strips to be removed and replaced. All the airfix roof vents look to be wrong for a D109 which appears to have a mirror image of the roof compared to the b set model. I will need to check a photo on this. If I used sides I would avoid the body cuts but then 4 roof strips would be wrong as would the roof vents. The underframe, bogie and end detail requires the same amount of work. On the other hand the sides would look better once all the door handle cut outs had been sorted. Glazing probably easier with the sides. My balance of opinion at the moment is to carry on and see where I get to especially as I have more b sets than I know what to do with. Adrian
  5. Thanks Pete. I will need to study your dimensions against a body shell to work out where to cut. Adrian
  6. Hi all I am planning to chop an airfix E140 into pieces and stick it back together as a D109. As far as I can tell this involves reducing the compartment spacing either side of the 1st and then restoring the length elsewhere. Question is where is the length restored. I have yet to find a published drawing. Can anyone help? Thanks Adrian
  7. For a picture of an intermediate pattern tender Try Churchward Locomotives Haresnape and Swain. Page 91 shows a mogul attached to one, it can be compared with the other photo on the page and clearly shows the additional height. Unfortunately the frames cannot be seen clearly.
  8. Thanks guys, the observation about the coupling rods was an eye opener and I reached for Churchward locomotives to find that indeed the coupling rods knuckle is in front of the crank pin on the 44xx and behind on the 45xx. Oakhill
  9. Please can you tell us some more about the LMWR. I have a feeling that it has some overlap with my Uxbridge and Amersham theN Chiltern then West Mercia Railway concept. Unfortunately as I model the late 30s there has been some swindonisation and what remains of the Edwardian splendour has had its Caledonian like blue painted in dark green.
  10. Does anyone know why the coupled wheelbase of the 44xx was reversed for the 45xx? I did not believe the drawings in Russell, CJ Freezer etc until I studied the pictures.
  11. Am I missing something about the livery question. Surely figure 490 in Russel Vol 2 establishes that that GWR green livery was used before the renumbering and therefore GWR green with a 90xx number is credible for a class member although perhaps not for 9003. Oaky PS: since as far as I can tell the world ended when Swindon ran out of roundels and I am a figment of my own imagination perhaps I should have kept quiet

  13. Thanks for the information presented, which clarifies the variations. I think the 1925 modification is very striking when done properly, unlike the Mainline attempt. Out of interest does anybody know if components are available from any source to build this type?
  14. Hi there. On the earlier model Bach Ann pannier I was able to make replacement tank fillers from a l shaped piece of wire soldered to a straight piece. I used Gibson .33mm wire and then trimmed to size for the model. In that version the handles were glued into a hole on the filler and I was able to superglue the replacements in place. If I knew how a camera worked I would send a photo. Adrian
