  1. Had a look at the details of the Hither Green TT. It’s recorded it was originally at Cannon Street Station. I wonder if the lattice frame was added when it was moved to Hither Green? Paul
  2. I wonder if someone involved once worked for the North Eastern Railway? The N.E.R. preferred to have the turntable pit covered over. They insisted on the G.N.R. doing the same at Doncaster. An alternative is, the turntable at Ilfracombe was moved from somewhere else, where it used to be a covered over example, so some bright character decided to have the handrails rotate instead? Paul
  3. Just remembered, there was an Importer of American S scale track and materials based in Belfast. No idea, if they are still in operation. Paul
  4. Ian, Happy New Year. I’ve just read your blog, you have been very busy. Hope to join in this year, though house renovations are still the priority. Kind regards Paul
  5. Ian, You might need two wires swapping around in one switch. Paul
  6. If I had the time, I would restyle to a more typical looking British locomotive. Perhaps someone else can run with that. Paul
  7. Where we are now, we’ve been renovating for the last two years. I’ve found all sorts of curious things. Roof ridge beams not correctly supported, found when the roof covering was renewed. Every door was a different size, (this is slowly being corrected, timber framed building). The electrics were initially a complete mystery and the assistance of local professionals, did not help! One qualified individual managed to not correctly install a new supply to the boiler room? Eventually, I managed to figure out that the lights in several rooms were wired with the Neutral fed through the light switch!!! On a recent occasion, we were visited by staff from the local electrical supply company. They were investigating over voltage problems on the network. One proudly announced he had wired up the house. I then pointed out the lighting errors, the fact the earth cable on the socket circuits was too small, and that he had randomly used any coloured cable he felt like! He slopped off back to the van and left his colleague to finish the checks. As you can imagine I’m rewiring with help of an Electrical Engineer I’ve met here, which is fortunate. Happy New Year to all TNM’s Paul
  8. Schooner, The only ready made track I’m aware of is for Om scale metre gauge for Swiss Prototypes. Possibly too heavy for the track in the photos. The same applies for ready to run, Swiss O scale locomotives and rolling stock on 22.5mm track. Parts are available from the S Scale Society stores, for scratch building. If you want to attempt bashing RTR chassis to suit have a look at Steve Rabone’s creations on this section of RMweb and his own website, https://www.steverabone.com/sscalewebsite/indexpage.htm Kind regards Paul
  9. I can imagine Cultra having a Fit! There is no continuous brake available. Yes speeds are low, but it’s still important to do things correctly! Paul
  10. I wonder what a Pannier Tank looks like with Go Faster strips? Paul
  11. There was a Rule and David Jenkinson mentions it in his Carriage Modelling Book. However, I suspect a Special Instruction would have written with regard to the car carrying passenger service. It may even be an instruction, in a copy of a Sectional Appendix of the period. Signalman of the time would no doubt have been commenting about the arrangement. They had already caused enough fuss over fixed tail lights on the early DMU’s, to the extent the use of the oil lamps was reinstated! Paul
  12. In a simplistic way, just reduce all dimensions by 12%. It should fit reasonably. Ironically, the same figure is the difference between OO and HO! Paul
  13. I see I’ve given you some ideas. Excellent. Paul
  14. My understanding of the TOPS series for 99xxx numbering is for vehicles that had been sold off and delisted. Upon being re-registered the 99 number is allocated. When you see carriages with original numbers in a charter train, they are privately owned, but we’re never delisted as their certification must have been maintained by the operator. The Jet Fuel from Poo, maybe a better solution, than electric powered aircraft. If the technology can be made small enough, it can convert the waste from the onboard toilets and feed the engines direct! Finally, the Good Doctors comments remind me, I have distinct memories of certain unpleasant sights and smells. Many railway officers will understand. As for the unfortunate cancer patient, it reminds me, we would not let a Pet suffer such a fate. Just my opinion. Paul
  15. Just rescale the whole drawing to fit an appropriate British Loading Gauge. There are plenty to choose from. I’m sure someone can recalculate Tractive Effort of a smaller machine. Paul
  16. Nice sunny start in Romania. Apparently, we are going to purchase appliances for the new kitchen. Fortunately, the Deltic fund is not involved, it’s a Christmas gift from the Outlaws. Paul
  17. Reminds me to watch the Naked Gun movie again. Paul
  18. Just read the article. Some impressive work to be seen. The two system style railways I recall from my youth in the UK, were Crewchester and the Sherwood Section of the LMS. Curiously, both clockwork powered at the time, built to O gauge coarse standards. The late Iain Rice always dreamed of creating bits of the Sherwood Section in 4mm scale. Currently, there is a OO gauge system under development called Hills of the North on here, featuring Carlisle, parts of Shap, The S&C, part of the Waverley Route and a representative version of Manchester Central. I did notice the usual comments about fears for the future and not enough space available. Sounds familiar as I’ve heard this multiple times in the last 40 odd years! Finally, the images of the couple with the model railroad in the Apartment Living Room, got my attention. The wife doesn’t look impressed at all!!!!! Paul
  19. Christmas meals consisted of lunch with cold meats and many different types of cheese. The main event consisted of polenta with shredded red cabbage and smoked pork and sausages. Finished off with Cozonac. As for drinks, Sloe Gin, Whisky, Beer and Wine were consumed. Snow melted rather quickly, due to a 17 degree increase in temperature???? Wife now trying to figure out what to do today! Paul
  20. Just finished clearing another 12 inches, (30cm), of snow from outside of the house to the road, that came down overnight. Another two hours gone! Now warming up with tea and cake. Mother-in-Law is making Cozonac, (Sweet bread) and my wife is making curtains!! I’ve got to clear the snow off the car next! Merry Christmas everyone on TNM. Paul
  21. Feel free to send fresh baked bread, bacon, cake, alcoholic refreshment! Had to clear snow twice outside the house today. Had 6 inches, (15cm), dumped on us in 5 hours. Even the Snow Ploughs are struggling! Paul, Time for a Hot Toddy
  22. Philip, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Paul
  23. Been an interesting evening so far, the wind got rather violent, but now it is calm, (Eye of the Storm, perhaps?). Anyway, the Out-Laws are with us for Christmas and my family and friends have sent suitable Yuletide decorated cards, but one card has revealed a major cultural difference between the UK and Romania! This card featured three Donkeys, so what you think, but out here a reference to a Donkey is associated with persons considered to be A****oles. Consequently, my Mother-in-Law, thought a UK family friend, initially thought she was being insulted? We’ve had to explain how the Donkey fits in with a certain journey to Bethlehem!!!! I wonder if Polish Andy has anything similar? Paul
  24. Poland seems to have sent the strong winds and horizontal snow in my direction further south. Though it has been intermittent with lots of sunshine. Paul
