Superb running and agree with Dave's comments, one more to be proud of.

Lovely to see your mechanism working John, it's what has put me off slightly but your words are encouraging, I had a bad enough time making it work in 4mm. It must be much better on the eyes to assemble in 7mm.
Certainly looking forward to the rest of your build and I think it will be well suited to the revised layout.

Coming along well Mr.B, there is something about the outside motion that sets these off to my mind.
I hope you don't mind me posting my ongoing 7mm version trail here to keep you encouraged ?
Out of interest who's wheels / rods will you be using ?
All the best,

" It's all ok, but I would like it to be as good as possible - the loco looks great and it would be nice to have that same feeling about the running qualities. I might be a bit spoiled by some of my other locos."
Thank you for posting your second video, superb atmosphere.
I would agree with the above in respect of its running qualities, I too have had similar issues, although not quite as pronounced, and I am slightly disappointed with Heljans gears, if that is what the problem is ?
Not yet had the opportunity to open the body up but after fitting the ESU decoder and trying all known settings I still can't get that slight stutter sorted, and yet as yours seems to be, mine runs well in reverse.
I am seriously considering replacement metal gears for the whole thing if any can be found.
All that said it is a lovely loco that I am loath to part with.

Looking very effective Mr.B
I do like using the MIG products and only need minuscule amounts to be effective too.

Lovely additions Mikkel and well built as usual.
It's another item for me to do eventually too and good to see you making good use of the plumbers hemp ( it does pong a bit so I placed mine in an airtight container !!! ).

p.s. nice clean thumb nail !

Well....someone has been using their time wisely !
Thank you for posting the methods for this kit Dave, it is one which is most suited in my opinion and I too had considered it. The only thing that "put me off" so to speak is exactly as you found ( and managed to get done satisfactorily ) are the butt joints of the sides and ends. The range of coaches from this manufacturer are suited to the period thought.
It's always something that irks me when you have to make additional purchases in order to make kits just that little bit better which is something you have managed to do.
Nice work as usual and look forward to the next instalment.
Well done mate.

Just catching up, nicely done Dave and as stated before, and excellent home spun workaround for the buffer stocks.

Please excuse the revival following my last comment on atmospheric scenes, I've now found the video I made some reference to...

It was a very difficult scene to create, one April 1st.

Whilst I agree that the atmospheric use of such machines can impart something rather unique I would be wary of their use.
Frequently used , or were used at events, disco's etc for a useful addition to the lighting ( I used them at most gigs when asked for ) they are no longer allowed generally due to being a possible fire hazard and venue managers are not often willing to allow the use of such machines. Although the better ones give a nicely regulated "fog" they also generate a fair amount of heat due to the element within the machines.
Not certain if canisters are still available but I'd suggest using these for a one off scene if purely wanting to get that haze affect.
I cannot recall the name of the modeller who created a superb French themed layout but I believe he also DJ's and uses a smoke generator to great effect on his layout ( its somewhere on YouTube ).
Maybe with care they could be used at home, and a word of caution......Do Not try to adapt the output into a smaller tube for that "secret outlet" on a layout.....I know !

The ability to be able to order the correct bolt chairs makes an already good product excellent in my opinion!
Whilst we don't have any connection I would wholeheartedly recommend these without any hesitation. If I were planning a new layout ( which I'm not ! ) I would certainly plan it around these. I found the Exactoscale chairs to be superior over the "other" ones and would use them again.

Hence my slightly tongue in cheek comment !

Quote - " The only draw back as far as I can see with these kits is the fact that they come with 3 bolt chairs, which aren't really appropriate for a GWR layout"
Dave I meant to say in my previous comment that these kits do come with the appropriate 2 bolt chairs, when ordering you need to click on the drop-down list which provides the option of the Exactoscale chairs for the kit, which I did for mine. You pay extra for these but worth while I think and guaranteed to get what you order.

Well, I wondered where you'd been...and now I know the reason why !
Time very well spent and the impression beyond the bridge will certainly pay dividends Dave.
Regarding the "trap point" I think most of the "audience" will need to be related to a giraffe in order to see that much detail so I know what I would be doing .
Pleased to see you've used the point kit we spoke about, extremely time saving and certainly looks good there.
Next episode please !

Hi Graham and thanks.
I only use Zimo Mx645`s on my loco`s And I use either Digitrain or Youchoos sound files.
This one has Digitrains small prairie sound file which is excellent for the chuffs and whistles but I`m overly disappointed this time with the other sounds as they come over as instantly `looped`
You might want to compare with Youchoos equivalent ( if it were me I`d choose the YOuchoos 64XX sound file or their 94XX)....listen to them on their website.
JOhn
Thank you John very much appreciated.
I have a feeling it might be the Youchoos version for me when I get to my 45xx being backdated to a 44xx. I too find that some of the sounds available are noticeably "looped" which can be an annoyance. I'll give those another listen.

Excellent, may I ask which Zimo decoder / sound file you have used for her please ?

They're nice kits they are......and you've made it nicer you have !
I've got their Early Iron Mink to solder up at some point which look ok on the etch, looking forward to more of the build Dave.

Always good to see a little bit of diversification, modelling but not modelling if you follow my drift. I think it also allows us to try out different methods of painting on something "cheaper" before tackling a more expensive "precious" model i.e. a nice 7mm GWR Edwardian loco.
Nice bit of modelling there Dave, I hope you enjoyed it.

Oddly enough we're not too dissimilar with back problems, vein-y things and age but I take my hat off to you for standing whilst building the loco.
Take good care and I hope you manage the remainder of the build without too much discomfort, in fact each and every day too !
