Maybe RMWeb should run a survey of the most tedious jobs in the world of Railway Modelling!
Working to earn the cash to buy what you want !
(Happily retired)
As an aside I am very much enjoying these blog entries and this period is really tempting.

And so you should be !

Probably a bit early in our timeframe but Stanhope Forbes's paintings certainly do capture the era for me

A very comprehensive and in-depth conversion / data which is what we have all come to expect from you, thank you.

Thanks for the video, Grahame. I had caught on to the "thin it, then thin it some more!" principle when it comes to earth washes, but this chap operates on a whole other plane. His channel seems full of interesting videos, you'll be costing me some sleep now
One thing I specifically enjoy is his commentary and whole approach to his modelling techniques. In one video he shows his previous career in the film industry making film sets etc which he's carried on into his modelling.
Lots of food for thought and using "mistakes" to your advantage. It certainly has made me think again about certain techniques and like you my mind has been working overtime when laying my head down to sleep !!!
His comments on Vallejo etc are interesting, I may have to replenish my Isopropyl alcohol supply now and start thinning my Tamiya supplies !
A most entertaining channel .

I try to stick to a limited number of colours
Hi matey,
I have recently been taking time to watch this chap and his modelling.
It certainly makes for an interesting take on just how much / little can be used to create what you want to achieve and I for one like his commentary, worth a watch ( including some of his other videos showing the techniques he uses ) .
I will be trying something similar once I get started in ernest again.
Hope it provides some useful inspiration !

This video uses them to fix roofs to models.
David has been doing this for a while but I think Dapol trumped him long before with their O Gauge loco cab roof magnets !

Seems something has reared its head again ?
I did wonder after reading a certain post elsewhere whether this would come to the fore ( thank you ) .
I would utter to suggest if using this method it is best done at the initial planning stages. Trying to adapt an existing layout can be quite challenging, that said, if you were to consider going down that cobbled street I think if anyone could put their innovative mind to it you would be the ideal person to try, I do genuinely mean that.

I'm afraid my info on the foamboard won't be of much use to you, as I buy it in a local craft shop here in Copenhagen
I think we need a special fact finding trip chaps !
I'm up for it......
With a bonus that the luggage on the way back won't cause any weight problems !

Pure genius Mikkel, simple but yet so very effective, even down to "small details" such as the horse do-dah on the road ! ( I assume that"s what it is ? ).
Thank you for taking the time to record and also post the short videos which explain your principles in modelling the lovely work you're doing on Farthing. The scene now takes on a whole new feeling especially with the B & W photograph.
Brilliant.

To be honest I'm not surprised you won "ANOTHER" cup Dave, very well deserved !
Hope your elbows hold up polishing all the ( well deserved ) silverware mate.

Thanks Grahame! It's been quite a year, but things are definitely on the up!

Hasn't it just ! I'm glad there is some normality returning to your life and modelling, I've been in a similar position myself but started to get back to the workbench.

Good to see you're back on the scene mate, it's a bit too far for me but I hope all goes well, as I am certain it will, and also attract good feedback.

Most enjoyable watch and some excellent shots from a human perspective too.
I do marvel at the scale of the station building in 7mm, it was big enough to build in 4mm. May I ask if you had some proprietary etchings enlarged or were they made from your own designs ?

Mikkel,
You will of course be adding a few bird nests won't you !

Great to see more progress and love the Dean Goods on the cassette. May I ask is it a recent built ?
It was my first ever 7mm loco kit build and most enjoyable even if it was a steep learning curve for me.

So nice to see a floral tribute to the layout which helps to add a more realistic overall scene.

"PLAYTIME" and quite rightly so, I should imagine it's very satisfying to finally get your models on the track and see them running John.
Thank you for posting.

A real credit to you for all the time spent so far and now being able to "play" with that superbly running Railmotor, really enjoyed the video, thank you for uploading it here.

That’s all really useful information! My coach definitely has turned under ends, and the 3 panels are the same size, so it looks like I’ve built an R2 rather than the U9 that the label says on the box

Bovvered ?
When its painted only you will know ( and maybe the 104 following this thread ! )
Either way I am sure that they will look excellent.

There must be some personal satisfaction having completed your “final” ? piece of motive power ( superb build ) and now moving back to the layout John.
Interesting to see your decision about the crossing gate mechanism, but seeing and hearing the operation there seems to be a real human interaction now which I certainly would find very satisfying, I hope that you do too ?
Once again I look forward to watching progress and trust you are now feeling well.

A real credit to you.

You've managed to pull another one out of the bag Mikkel, nicely written description of your work and excellent model.
Although you mention not wishing to add reins have you considered using a glue gun to produce some ?
Simply place a drop onto any surface and then slowly pull away to produce the stringing effect ( you know, the one which is a nuisance in normal use ). Cheap, easy and can be replaced at virtually no cost if broken.
Once set cut to length.
Or maybe some EZ Line which will give enough when you move the model with just enough slack in it.
