  1. Thanks @Gordonwis. That's the one. An amazing resource, the only problem is the pictures are so good of everywhere they go it makes me want to model more countries. Simon
  2. The UK are always amending the VAT rules as well.
  3. Or they might think you are connected to a competitor who makes scenics:- Anita Decor😀.
  4. For a practical GWR solution check out Peranwell in Cornwall, a box over the Goods Shed line.
  5. Hi all, A couple of years ago I found a brilliant website run by a few very good photographers. It contained thousands of high resolution photos, some of which were copyright free, and it allowed you to search by using a map. It had a lot of great Swiss photos on there. It also contained photos from their trips to China and Middle East. Does anyone know if it still exists? I've tried searching (I have changed computer so can't go back to a bookmark/favourite). I'm fairly sure it isn't rail.net Thanks to @Gordonwis for posting the link:-. https://bahnbilder.ch/ Simon
  6. I've seen it recommend to take the rail out of the sleeper base and use a bending jig before sliding it back into the sleeper base.
  7. Amazing work as usual. Just thinking, would it not be just as quick to supply the ready formed handrails instead of the jig? ( I admit that I have never been able to make a completely straight handrail like you show here, others may be more adept than me). Simon
  8. I remember an article in a modelling magazine about making 1930's cars. They carved them out of clear plastic and made the interior as a negative IE the seats etc were hollow and painted from below to become 'solid'. Sorry can't remember which magazine 🙄.
  9. Would a source of moderate heat aimed at the centre of the roof, combined with a little gentle persuasion deform it sufficiently?
  10. If your platforms are not too wide and straight and you want a gravel surface - sandpaper/emery cloth is available in rolls of various grit sizes (the higher the number the finer the grit size) thus avoiding any joins.
  11. I read somewhere that it's a good idea to file a slight taper on the end of the rail to help sliding it into the chairs.
  12. When I wanted to become an Architect in the early 1980's I got the impression that if I didn't love modernist concrete buildings then I shouldn't bother trying to get an Architectural degree. I currently work in a building built in1880 almost directly opposite the railway station in Redruth in Cornwall. Sadly it is very neglected and we are likely going to move out to potentially a modern building. Although there is the possibility of going to Lower Lemon Street in Truro (allegedly built for the landed gentry's mistresses).
  13. I saw an advert for Bachmann spares in one of this month's magazines, they may have something suitable.
  14. Is that on their website? They also have a shop in Cornwall which might have some in stock and they would combine the order to send to you, just one lot of postage (disclaimer - I know some of the staff).
  15. Was the prototype an 'Open' that was converted by adding the upper bodywork?
  16. One tip myself and a friend learned the hard way was - make sure the surface you are putting the wallpaper paste onto is sealed and an even colour. We had to paint the sky over Gaugemaster back scenes because the background showed through the sky, it was okay under the fields and buildings as they broke up the unevenness.
  17. Life Drawing perhaps? Prevents prying eyes, our Life Drawing room was on the sixth floor at college for the same reason.
  18. You might find that using cling film between the baseboard joins gives a more uneven and therefore less noticeable gap. On a friend's layout we used a generous amount of PVA and the ballast was set solid. Some PVA glues will stay slightly flexible, Anita's Tacky being one, but again it is more expensive than most.
  19. A slightly larger version of this plan was actually built and featured in a modelling magazine (sorry can't remember which). The plan even copies the road vehicles used.
  20. You have my sympathy, I feel the same way about FreeCAD.
  21. You may find Inkscape is more versatile for your needs. It is a Vector based program so allows easier line drawing.
  22. What date was the photograph taken please?
