The only boiler I tried was a #2 based in the plans for Nightingale in GWRJ because I plan to build a Bird series Bulldog at some point. I should really get it printed and see whether it looks okay, or not. If it is okay then I will know how to model and cast the rest. The software I use makes the boiler pretty straightforward but the belpaire fire boxes are not. If we can manage to provide castings for boilers and fireboxes then we will be a long way to creating whatever GWR locos we like :-)

You should have consulted the Captain first. He can roll a tapered boiler on a parsnip without the need for drawings.

We may now live in a world that no longer seems to value engineers, but there will very soon come a time when that is proven flawed, and engineering will step in to save the day. Stick at it and don't be taken in by anyone suggesting that engineering is not worthwhile; Engineering as a discipline is so much more than a career ... it's a life decision... and one that I'm so glad that I took over 25 years ago.

I must be honest and say that I probably wouldn't have become an engineer if I had the chance to choose a career again. I found it to be anprofession which is undervalued and unrewarding.

There was a bracket I needed for the rear derailleur. I found it online but tried two bike shops to try and get it quickly. One said they had one three days ago but was asked today if I wanted them to order one for me, the second told me no such thing existed! I ended up ordering one online!

Any decent bike shop will have a selection of brackets in stock, they are designed to bend or break if knocked to save the frame from damage.
