Cutler, you may well be right, my knowledge and interest in horsey matters is minimal. My encounter with 61 occurred in 1961 at Finsbury Park, she had a double chimney and wing deflectors, not those Teutonic troughs which came later. To me that was the most handsome format for the A3. Oh to still be able to see such wonderful locos in main line service. cheers

AFAIK the name for a race horse can only be used once according to the rules of the Jockey Club. 60061 was my favourite being the first A3 I ever set eyes on.

Thank you Jeremy, absolutely perfect. I can now get on and finish this build. You’ve made a nice job of yours. Thanks for my Christmas present and have a Merry Christmas. Bob -
Barclay Drawings

Hi JeremyI’m presently fighting a Mercian Models Barclay kit in 7mm. I cannot figure out the brake arrangement and the instructions offer little help. Could you possibly scan your drawing to show me how it’s set up. I have pored over masses of photos but mostly this area is in shadow or unclear. If you can help it would be much appreciated. Best wishes Bob -
Hi No intention of suggesting the product is at fault, the positive reviews on this thread speak for themselves. The transfers in question were supplied by Little Loco as replacements for their Cl15 loco. There were no instructions included to the best of my knowledge. Thank you for your prompt response, I wish more traders were as proactive. Do you still want me to pm? Bob

Tried using some Railtec transfers today for the first time. They went on ok but then curled up as they dried. What am I doing wrong?

Morning Scott Swift work on the exGER coaches!! The reference you have shows the spacing of the ventilators end on for the brake, ie two rows symmetrical about the c/l. In addition I have a drawing from the Apr 63 MRC showing the end view of the others. They are again a double row symmetrical about coach c/l and 8mm apart(4mm drawing) Hope this helps

Bit of a Celtic thing this. Ex Caledonian pugs also fitted with wooden tenders and of course the J67/9s on the Lauder branch permanently coupled to proper tenders. My model is just a standard Barclay, if there is such an animal. It has a full cab back sheet, internal coal bunkers and no vac brake or carriage heating. Thanks for posting

Thanks again guys, in reply; 1. Sitting on the bunker looks fairly uncomfortable to me, I’m assuming the bunkers had no tops on them so I guess you’re perched on the coal. My model has a closed cab so no chance of your option Ray. 2. Nice pic DOCJACOB, I’ve had a look at Spitfire on the LWR site. Similar engine to my choice so the back head is good, but Spitfire seems to have a bunker behind the cab, mine has 2 flanking the back head inside. 3. Lastly, I could have done with that drawing earlier Barclay, I’m now too far into the build to go back but I seem to have guessed right mostly. I confess I’ve never paid a huge amount of attention to Industrials, my interest lies with main line, however as a kid I used to play on the AB tank at Felsted Sugar factory so I’m trying to re-visit my childhood. Thanks again

Scott I thought I had explained earlier in my pm. If you look at the drawing in Vol3 , the end-on drawing shows brakes on each side and vac/ Westinghouse piping. ie as built. The photo from late in the van’s life shows no brakes or brake handle on one side, but vac pipes. Conclusion, the vans have been altered to through piped and there is a manually applied brake on one side only. Whether it is a single shoe or 2 single shoes like one sided minerals for example I can’t say. I have never seen a hand brake only wagon/van with clasp brakes on one side only. Van looks good btw, I’m nearly ready to start my 7mm version, just need to finish my Barclay 0-4-0 before starting yet another project.

No bowing needed, if it’s inside faces marked out then when set up the doors will be correct ie not opposite each other.Btw, I had another look at the SCV and yes there seems to be no brake shoes showing in either pic but a full set of 2 shoes per wheel on the drawing. PB’s photo shows a vac pipe so I guess the van was through piped in later years. Enjoying all your builds Bob

Scott I assume the 4 wheel van is the Gresley Dia120. That being the case I think you have an error in your marking out. The sides are not mirrored but when viewed from the side, the double doors with the guards door should be on the viewers left. The way you have it, the top side in your pic is the wrong way round. I hope this is in time to stop a lot of wasted work, as it is you could just turn it over and continue your marking out on the reverse side. Not meaning to criticise just trying to help. Best wishes Bob
