  1. Scott Do you have any info on the layout of the brakes? Looking at my reference, it appears there’s a hand brake lever on one side only and originally the van was dual vac/Westinghouse fitted but I don’t know if that was retained into my 1950s era. Separately, do you need to scribe on both sides of the plastic to stop it warping? The van looks good Bob
  2. I’m looking forward to seeing the passenger cattle wagon develop. Having seen the details in Historic Carriage Drawings which I suspect is your reference, I’ve always wanted one of these in 7mm. My problem is how to model the extensive louvred windows, if you can do it in 4mm then there’s no excuse. Looking at the photo/drawing it appears there is only a handbrake (GE ratchet type) on one side and I can’t tell if the Westinghouse brakes are still fitted. Hopefully your build will generate some input from others. Nice GN van by the way Bob
  3. Scott,These coaches had a very long life and there are many detail differences. It’s possible the alarm gear depicted in the drawing is actually at the ther end. I have a photo of E63518 like this (no Westinghouse gear remaining) and another I can’t identity. Referring to the photo ( E63518 again in late BR service) I note the step boards have been removed, quite common on old exGER stock, also the end steps are semi-circular on the vertical face and there is a larger single step at the top on the centre line. I have built a couple of these from old kits in 7mm, mine have the larger windows in the corridor portions but are essentially the same. I am very fond of these old coaches and have enjoyed your build. I hope this is helpful and not intended as criticism. Bob
  4. Richard,I think if I’m shelling out £750 for an RTR model in moulded plastic I am not being unreasonable in expecting an accurate representation of the prototype. If my budget was unlimited then there are several brass RTR options. And yes I probably could build a kit but the whole point of RTR is to avoid a protracted building period and a possibility less than perfect result. We are not all masters of the soldering iron. As I’m now into “injury time” from a life expectancy POV I would just like to settle for an accurate model of an iconic locomotive I had the privilege to watch in regular service. Bob
  5. I’m grateful that Hattons are listening to their potential customers, but I really can’t tell from the latest layered image if they’ve nailed it. What does seem to be apparent is the width across the footplate is too big, or if you match that then the boiler is too narrow. I shall commit finally when I see a finished production model. I really want one but it must be right. Bob
  6. Ok, that’s easy then. The pic in post 6 ( 2nd revision) matches very closely the profile of the real loco in posts10 and 12. All we need is a photo of the latest rendition from exactly the same camera angle and then it will be beyond doubt. Bob
  7. Well I am really surprised at the lukewarm/ lack of response to the latest 3D sample. As I said previously, the head on view does not resemble an A4, a look at the photo of SNG in post 10 shows that. I am repeating myself but I am convinced the 1st revision was much nearer than the latest. Sorry but that’s how I see it. Bob
  8. Totally agree, I was just pointing out that the original poster’s contention that £175 makes the Dapol offering among the cheapest RTR is questionable when Walsworth already offer RTR (all metal) for significantly less. Wish I could justify a Y1/3 on my layout. Bob
  9. Walsworth Models do a kit and offer RTR for £144.95. This is all metal, nickel silver body and chassis with w/metal castings. No connection with them, not seen the model either, just added for additional info on what’s already available. Bob
  10. A quick look at the latest rendition suggests to me that the elusive look of a streak head on has eluded you again. To me the first revision captures the look a lot better than this. Perhaps more knowledgable people would like to add their comments. Bob
  11. People who spout on about locomotives that look wrong without the correct headcode and then couple their stock with giant tension lock couplings
  12. That looks much better, to my eye that appears to have captured the look of a streak convincingly and I shall be buying one. Bob Now it’s the experts’ turn.
  13. Can we please have a picture of the A4 from head on? This was the aspect of the model which caused most adverse comment and is the only view missing form the Cad images Bob
  14. Downside is the Corgi buses and Solido are 1:50 scale so way underscale for 1:43 layouts. Bob
  15. John I asked the question back in January. The process is described in post 522. One look at that and I decided to leave my loco crew less. If you're brave enough to try, let us know how you got on. Bob
  16. Mr Postie just pushed a set of replacement transfers through my letterbox. First impressions are very good, very sharp letters and numbers and super BR crests. This will just add the final piece to an excellent product. Thank you for the excellent service. Bob
  17. I have used these figures. Mine were advertised as 1:43 but some are a little undersized, 1:50 perhaps. They are well detailed and I recognise some in the Preiser range. They scrub up very well and are very good value. The main downside is the lack of variety. Best wishes
  18. Hi Steve, disappointing for some no doubt but for me excellent news. Please check your private messages.Bob
  19. Could I ask what the state of play is regarding replacement transfers for the Cl15? My D8224 has been languishing on the shelf since January waiting for its identity to be applied. I'm very happy with the model but would like to get it into service. Bob
  20. Thank you, have now read the post, not sure I'd get away with the procedure without causing damage or breaking a wire. At least I have a month or so to think about it. Bob
  21. Can anyone who has got his hands on one tell me if the finish is paint or coloured plastic? Likewise has anyone found a way to fit a crew inside the cab. I have bought one but am abroad till March. Bob
  22. Is that the Queen getting driving lessons? Seriously it looks fantastic Bob
  23. Thanks for that Mike, looks to me like a Wickham 27 model. Have a good Christmas Bob
  24. Hello Mike, Which model of Wickham(7mm) trolley do you produce, in what medium and any thoughts on motorising? Best wishes and may I be the first to welcome you here Bob
  25. Oh dear, 2 replies whilst my thumbs typed my contribution. Good luck with the Ruston but for me the choice is very disappointing. Bob
