  1. Ok I am sure a well earned rest is due, but the question was aimed at attendees at Reading, did no one go?I live 2000 miles from Reading so the silence is not only deafening but also frustrating. Bob
  2. Steve,Very sad to hear of your escalating disappointments, I'm sure all of us eagerly awaiting the model share your dismay. As I said earlier, the wait will be worth it. You have nothing to apologise for, Bob
  3. Thanks for your update, I hadn't taken in that they're being air freighted so panic over. I KNOW they are going to be worth waiting for! I sincerely hope you plans for Reading are not scuppered. Best wishes Bob
  4. Ok, no one seems to want to ask the question so I'll put my head over the parapet. Do you have an update on when these locos will arrive? A google search on surface transits from China to UK gives 25-30 days so unless they are in transit now, Christmas availability is unlikely. I have ordered and paid for my loco on the basis that I could collect it on my short visit to U.K. at Christmas but it now looks like I'll be going home empty handed. I realise that you're a victim as well but up to date news, even if bad is preferable to no news. B
  5. Well I thought more than twice about even mentioning it. The level of detail you have achieved is fabulous and once the roof is on......Look forward to more updates. Bob
  6. George, whilst I agree you box interior looks really good, it seems to me the signal levers should be the other way round i.e. With the release catch on the side away from the signaller. Happy to be proved wrong of course. Bob
  7. I have tried to reserve one unsuccessfully thru the "contact us" on the website with 4 rejections. Have sent an email as I am abroad till Christmas and only have a couple of days to collect it from the store. I hope someone there reads the emails.B
  8. Hi Andy,Please understand my post was as I said merely comment and not criticism. The weathering is very good with just a subtle suggestion of grime. My remarks about water and oil could equally apply to an ex-works loco, likewise the 08 after its first visit to the fuelling point. Sorry if I caused offence, it was not intended. Bob
  9. Hi George, The Austerity looks very good but if I may comment I've never seen a steam engine in steam without dribbles and puddles of water on their anatomy. Also the oil can seemed to have less than pinpoint accuracy. A little restrained use gloss varnish or metalcote in places would bring it alive. Likewise 350hp shunters seemed to have half their fuel load on the outside! Just my tuppence worth, I always enjoy reading your posts and admiring your work Bob
  10. Thank you Terry,Your model is just as I remember the engines at Felsted in Essex. Mine is I think a later version modified to build the round top firebox version. I have noted your comments regarding tender variations, that said I rather like the weather board on yours. To conclude, I would also like to concur that the proprietor of Ace Products William Ascough is a very helpful and pleasant man to deal with. Bob
  11. Good Morning, If I could just tag this onto this thread. I have the following Ace kits in my to build pile: N7 0-6-2, J69 0-6-0T and J19 0-6-0. If anyone has built any of these, I would be glad to hear from them regarding ease/difficulty etc. Probably off forum would be better and avoid another thread hijack. Best wishes B
  12. Hi George, I have had one of these hanging around for ages having been unsure how to finish the paint. Mine too has the etched chevron guide lines and I would like to finish it plain green. Will be interested to see if you can 'lose' the etched lines with a plain livery. Nice looking build of a very complex kit. Bob
  13. Hi George, I use Clostermann Black Etch Primer 446, I got mine on the bay, haven't looked if it's still available. Nice build by the way. B
  14. Spot On were actually 1:42 scale, a curious choice for the models. Sadly, although they are very good for 0 gauge scenics, the collecting fraternity have chased even those models in indifferent condition up to crazy prices. Some other makers produce some models in 1:43, but it all seems very haphazard. I have yet to find a site giving reliable data regarding the true scale of many models. There are also many sellers on *bay who claim their wares are 1:43 when it's obvious they are 1:50, in many cases written on the box. Whether that's genuine error or misrepresentation I'll leave others to decide. Cheers B
  15. This model is made by Altaya l think. Having said that I find it hard to distinguish some offerings from IXO, Altaya or Hachette. All of these seem to have issued the same model of the RT bus, AEC Regal, Fordson FT7 and Bedford trucks. They are very nice and an honest 1:43 scale. I wish these pesky Europeans would do more British prototypes. Bquote name="chaz" post="2227648" timestamp="1457256838"]Erm....dunno. The underside is marked "WALES & EDWARD RANGEMASTER MILKFLOAT" "1/43" "Made in China". Both it and the taxi were packaged with an "007 - James Bond" theme. I got them both from the Radley Models stand at a recent show and the milk float can be found on this page... http://www.radleymodels.com/o-gauge-ready-to-run-coach-or-bus.html Hope that's helpful. Chaz
  16. Jeff, I don't know what era you model but these coaches lasted until 1950s BR. When the GER was absorbed into the LNER in 1923, this kind of secondary stock was not deemed worthy of teak finish and painted in "Stratford Brown", a sort of muddy nondescript brown. BR continued with this scheme, some being left with LNER lettering and some had their numbers repainted in BR style. That said, teak does look nice, and just to add another option the GER replaced teak with Crimson Lake. Bob
  17. Hi Jeff, I'm sure we have nailed the id of your coach down. Looking at my H105, the layout is, starting at one end, baggage compartment, 1st class with 7 seats,1st class with 6 seats and a short corridor alongside connecting 7 seat compt with the central toilet. After the toilets (1x 1st cl, 1x 3rd) there is a longer corridor on the opposite side for 3x 3rd compts and finally an end 3rd which has a connecting door to the corridor allowing access to the toilet. The Campling book I mentioned has an excellent drawing in 4mm of exterior and internal arrangement. Having thought longer about the Highfield range, in addition to the GER coaches I have mentioned, they did a pair of NER non corridors, a pair, I think, of LSWR coaches and some freight vans. Certainly a NER brake van, probably a milk van, but others I can't remember. Of course they also did the GER Tram loco (Y6) and the Sentinel (Y1/3) designed to sit on a Lima shunter or bogie chassis. I still have my Y6. I agree with previous comments, they were an inexpensive intro to O gauge and could "scrub up well" Cheers, Bob PS The Y1 and Y6 do crop up fairly regularly on ebay, the coaches less often.
  18. Hi Jeff, What I think you have is model H105. This is described as "LNER-GE First-Third" by Highfield. It seems to be a GER Lav Composite dating from 1890s. Historic Carriage Drawings by Nick Campling covers them on pages 108/9. This suggests they ride on Fox 8 ft bogies. I built one in the seventies and it can be made to look ok. Funnily enough, in a moment of madness I bought a batch of them on e..y, and have started another. Although they are very basic I think they can be built to give a pleasing model of an unusual prototype. If I knew how I would post a pic of my long completed one. Hope this helps. Bob PS I also have an H110 " GER Royal Saloon ", which is a clerestory coach.
  19. Thanks Ian, can't think how I overlooked ebay. B
  20. Hi Ian, I have been searching unsuccessfully for suitable 50s 1/43 number plates. where did you source those? B
