  1. This was the last time I saw 150002... May/June 1988 Saw 15001 in Taunton in May last year, and again in Swindon in October 2019.
  2. Went out did a bit of shopping this weekend, I can see mass panic has hit Sainsburys, costco and boots... no disinfectant wipes or gels at any we tried, zilch anywhere. As for costco, I saw people taking out van fulls of toilet rolls and water... clearly carpet baggers are stocking up to take advantage, and I mean literally hundreds at a time yesterday. I was in London on saturday, quite a number of mask wearers (lets face reality these 30 odd cases in the Home counties this weekend are London workers who waited till weekend to goto the Doctors).. I suspect next week Londons going to have to face reality... am I wrong.. in 7 days we will see, But still, toilets of the various london pubs.. just cold water, no soap but most blokes come and go without washing hands.. I saw Asia in 2003 and the huge efforts it took to kill it, and reading the stats you can see places like Hong Kong have learned lessons, theres a rapid wake up call coming here.... if you look at the spread pattern elsewhere, it doubles daily every day for approx 10 days until containment starts, and the slow extends to double every two days etc there after until the halfway recovery mark... so its not inconceivable that by next weekend were looking at 800-1000 cases, a city like London could be much more like Wuhan very quickly... London aint Lombardy... Wuhan spread by 1million leaving for CNY, 8 million Londoners commute every day. i’m in London tomorrow, I will be wearing a mask (dont care what you say), I will take hand gel with me, I will clean the desk and chair before I sit at it, I will take my own lunch. I managed all yesterdays journey from door to door without actually touching anything I didn't own (Wallet, phone and credit card) .. no buttons, handles, escalator sides etc... its easily possible... trouble is I’m just one a population of 8.9million people, most of whom just dont care, a hospital system that has no chance of handling anything but a minor outbreak.
  3. Thanks, Ive looked there before, though I suspect its archive is incomplete, when looking for other events... look for various prangs to class 21/29... but theres surprising few incidents in Scotland listed here to correlate. Looking through this rekindled memories of that Dinting derailment too ! - I remember my dad saying thats it the line is finished and they wouldn't reopen it.. of course they did.. just for 4 months. picture here (not mine from Flickr url). I dont know if theres a Bolton Evening News archive online, perhaps I can try there. it could be my knowledge of the event is wrong, I was very young, but pretty certain it was Bolton.. the memory is vivid and my father I know mentioned it several times prior to the Eccles crash a few years later, which was considerably more horrific, and of course Summit Tunnel.
  4. 2bil/Hal, Brighton Belle, 395 all use a motor bogie. As does the railroad modern image. to be fair, its not the drive, but the pickups / quality of wheels/contacts as well as weight that makes a lot of difference in performance.. Ive some great running motor bogie’d models, but drive shafts, flywheels etc are better, especially when surrounded by a solid metal block. But my guess the APT will have a solid metal block in the centre power car, with motor and shafts in there... its relative price is quite attractive, I dont know if that means theres economies in that however... i found the Azuma a bit “railroad” for its price.
  5. dont worry, Show us a picture, on here, someone will find a flaw in it for you.
  6. Lets get 87002 in CS first... thats been a very long wait, though as its been repainted now I guess, if others are to go by, it will suddenly arrive soon. 86101 is also in Intercity Swallow livery too. if 90001 / 2 do the same, and with 47828 too in Intercity livery, lets assume a mk3 set could follow... its quite an interesting time coming for mainline railtours... if they do an Intercity mk3 set.. sone as intercity pullmans would be nice ;-) in other news in 28th March will see the first class 58 working in the UK in 18 years ! What we need now is a mk2 set with Regional Railways on one side, NSE on the other to give extra fun!
  7. they seem to have found their price around the £300-315 mark. I suspect if it wasn't for R3810 coming, it could well have been higher. Whilst some are lamenting missing R3809, they might do well to secure an R3810 as it is sold out at many, but not yet all, places. I’d imagine it too could end up carrying, an albeit lesser, premium. We have in the past seen Hornby temptations to making too many, in which everyone, including Hornby end up with armfuls of them washing around discount aisles for years. I think with 2 runs they've got it right.. sell outs and premiums are better stories than discounts and unsold stock, even if it frustrates some. if they now rested the tooling until 2025, (S&D 200 anniversary), they will probably find their place again at a premium, but if they run discounts now, they could still be on shelves at discount in 2025, defying inflation.. much like the k1, j50 and 71. If this is the modus operandi for the future (W1 etc, but also more mundane classes like the 78000 to sell out at, close to, or just after release then its a much more secure route)...this is the successful route Bachmann have navigated with Modern image class 37/47’s, and newer players like Accurascale, Revolution.
  8. Do what modellers always do... 1. Look for a cheap one to swap bits. 2. break it down for spares 3. convert it into something else
  9. Is EM or P4 really more popular than say N gauge ? yet N gauge people are always complaining they are poor relation to OO. i’m afraid in the real world EM /P4 is a minority, that feels like a majority when all huddled together in a small room such as this forum.
  10. ive just seen an email inviting me to buy tickets on the last GWR 150/0 service for 28th March.. https://www.gwrsouvenirs.co.uk/index.php/shop/gwr135-adult-16-final-furlong.html
  11. Nah 142’s are almost as cheap as a dozen o gauge locos, (i’m not joking either), so cheap i’m surprised they've not turned up in the bargains thread. Could make good model railway club rooms.
  12. They are a separate item, each container comes with a free wagon. ;-)
  13. Does anyone have any records or information regarding a derailment at Bolton around 1978-1980. From what I know (it could be entirely wrong), was a 40 or 47 on a Glasgow- Manchester derailed as it went around the curves into Bolton station from Preston towards Manchester. Ive a very vague recollection of the Bolton avoiding lines (from Lostock to Blackburn) being in place but unused, but semaphores present, and the sidings adjacent to the Blackburn lines into Bolton still being used, as well as the huge goods depot, the huge footbridge past the signal box leading to Bolton town centre, as well as Burnden Park, Bolton West boxes etc, I recall seeing a derailed train, the centre through lines being used for a recovery train, my father several times told me he took me to see the train and its recovery, but its a really vague memory. Does anyone have any info on this event, which doesn't sound serious, but disruptive ?
  14. Interesting article, This quote makes me excited... 3D is the future of niche modelling, when combined with rtr quality painting and printing. I think it would be further enhanced with modern pre-painted kits, but ultimately we need 3D printing to incorporate finer printing and painting... the tech will get there, but not yet.
  15. I use DC, and a miniature bluetooth speaker, hidden in a brake van or bg. Then play sounds using Youtube or personal recordings. I can play unlimited infinite sounds for hours on a single charge, the iphone will overlay multiple sounds at the same time (and occasionally the phone rings and I have a conversation via the BG whilst on the move). All i need to fit this out is a mixing desk app of prerecorded sounds and map it to train speeds in an App... i’m hoping Hornby is going to bring it, if not i may just write the app myself.
  16. So now its been detected in Haslemere, Surrey from a patient with no international travel. I wonder if disinfecting train carriages will start, which are hotbeds of germs at any time. We await to see this guys travel movements, and where in this country he caught it, but it seems to have arrived. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51683428
  17. Doesnt the Orient express check that individual screws on the panelling are set to perfect horizontal ?
  18. Maybe the trick missed was Triang badging everything this year... for one year only.. or at least adding a 100 year anniversary sticker on the box. Personally i’m not too excited by Smokey Joe in its 1980’s box or Clan Line in its 2000 box. Has anyone found one of these £500 golden tickets yet ? - maybe they are hidden in the smokey joes and 35028 ? https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/centenary-year-golden-tickets R3810 Rocket looks sold out in many places, whilst its not yet turned to gold dust in advance of release like the Triang one, I suspect its not going to linger for too long... That in itself suggests Hornby has probably sized it right.. a 3rd run could be too many.
  19. If your Rocket is damaged and a replacement isnt an option, why not consider buying an R3810.. swapping the loco... its the same loco its the box thats different ? Not ideal, but its means to an end.
  20. So my order from Hattons has come good I was quite nervous after my previous episode with the 27 and 29. I may be able someone a silver lining here... A day after the Hattons order on Jan 6th, I ordered some Piko coaches from a model shop in Germany. They never sell Hornby ever, but I was very surprised to see Hornby Rocket advertised, so I reserved it. The shop itself is occasionally unable to supply in the past but they allow free reservations, email you before payment and give option to cancel. They have removed the Rocket now saying sold out, but my pre-order remains accepted. IF it comes good and they email me, I can cancel or dont mind picking it up for someone who missed out above, they listed at 200 Euros, UK postage is usually £5/6...so rrp. But there.. some shops overseas in Europe are stocking Rocket, and apparently ones that don't regularly stock UK Hornby range (but do stock Rivarossi etc), you may want to look abroad.
  21. Thats easy to get around... 60008 was the most expensive limited edition by far at £600+ in the 1990’s... but its been done many times since. 4771 was an early Bachmann limited edition, but changing the overhead warning flashes they made it a standard release.... Rocket limited edition is easy.. change the carriage names.
  22. a couple of examples... A streamlined P2 is a distinct possibility, under the hood, the chassis block has an A4 style curved profile... so it was thought of... however the Original MN has a very distinctive block of weight above the drivers, that would preclude its use on a rebuilt MN...Which suggests to me a new Rebuilt MN is not in the current plans. Another example was the service sheet of the Sentinel showed “rods”, a good year before a rod version was released.
  23. I’ll settle just to get mine at all.. Third time Hattons seems to have “been a little slow” with processing an order..(1st was the Dapol 29, second the Heljan 27) ... its not so easy to just cancel and move this one to someone else... i’m starting to have doubts about reliability of my preorders in Liverpool. excuses politely come as do various slipping dates, but I would much prefer the model to arrive instead.
  24. I was thinking to use a tiny bit of filler, then mix a bit of Phoenix Yellow, with some grey to lighten it to a match, them just use a tip of a cocktail stick to line out the filler, as there should be some outline visible.
  25. I was wondering what colour that lamp iron is, it doesn't look yellow... theres a colour picture if it here, now its minus the “D”, the bracket looks blue, it also has a TOPS data panel.. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/47894-sad-eyed-people-the-class-21-and-29-livery-resource/&do=findComment&comment=1795507
