  1. Well the response to your post has answered my speculation.So fair enough.That’s put that one to bed.

For once,I’m being pedantic.There is one area where I see a significant improvement over the Bachmann versions of DP 1….that being in the area of cab and windscreens .That is to say the “face” of the model. The caveat here being that what you sometimes see in images from Hornby is not always what you get. Now moving on from here,I wonder whether Accurascale,having won the field with their production Deltic in convincing fashion,will take up the challenge and produce a DP1,given the length of Hornby’s delivery time scale. It would also be considerably cheaper. Given Hornby’s renewed cosying up to the NRM as seen in the new tv series,how might this affect any ongoing ( if there is one of course) licensing agreement ? But yes,this punter does see a significant improvement in the new release.

  4. The new Bachmann 37 and 47 do very well indeed in terms of both performance and sound. They are also advertised by Bachmann as being dc friendly in the manual/ instructions in the box. Just to say that I’m happy with what I’m getting. On the other hand,Hornby’s TTS will not run on dc. When they initially installed Loksound many years ago now,you could get sound to operate on dc but yes,operation was markedly slower. I have posted earlier that Hornby’s technical department do not think their new TTX is dc compatible.A useful and helpful conversation by phone. I recommend getting in touch with them if you’ve any queries.
  5. Not necessarily. The latest Bachmann offerings allow dcc sound use on dc analogue.I get quite reasonable response from a Gaugemaster Combi from position 4 and really excellent sound.
  6. For advice,I rang Hornby Technical Services and received a quick and useful response. The advice is to remove the chip &fit a 21 pin dcc blanking plate which they hope will be included .
  7. Thanks for that. TTS fitted models cannot run on DC analogue. Am I correct in my assumption that the same will apply to TXS or is this as yet unknown?

  9. It now weighs in at £149.99 on the H website . Yes,I suppose that is “reasonable “ but I think,a price hike from Warley. Fair enough but why omit it from the magazine where it appears as bait for prospective members ?
  10. Just received my copy of The Collector ( please note the title ) in the post. Vey nicely produced with enticing ads & images. It introduces the Dublo Deltic, the non sound version of which has already reached the sold out status. No I didn’t pre order but then given delivery dates of 2024 /5 why would I,given the timescale and an acceptance of my own mortality prospects …80+ and counting ? Wonder how many “collectors “give consideration to that. Note an ad for an exclusive 46220 a number of which flew out at Warley & for a short while after until supplies ran out at what these days can be described as a knock down price. It’s a limited edition of 500 . At the bottom of the page is an exhortation to join the club so that I can order one. Er…..I’m already a member,otherwise I wouldn’t be reading the magazine now in front of me.. Nowhere do I see a most useful piece of information…..the price now asked. I’ll go online to the website to glean further information.
  11. This is such an interesting dialogue. My late father served in RAF Bomber Command (ground crew) most of whose airfields operated out of Lincolnshire for the duration of WW 2 .Thus most personnel travelled through London at some stage in their wartime service.Near to the Regents Canal if you choose to explore it is a blue plaque house denoting Guy Gibson’s occupancy for a while. Dad never forgot his journeys on leave via KX as he frequently regaled us with tales of V2 ‘s hauling trains into the station with their hind quarters stationary in Gasworks Tunnel. One thing stood out in his recollections was the “Sally Ann” ( Salvation Army ) handling out refreshments on the station with an assortment of writing paper and envelopes above which was positioned a sign which read “ Have you written home ?” To his dying day he never forgot it.

  14. I assumed that this is known as they were ex- LSWR and thus passed to the Southern,thence to BR ( S ) Western section. . I must remind myself that clarity is all in future.🤭
  15. Bachmann have issued two releases of DP1 and not several. Other versions ( of production Deltics D9000-D9021 ) are of a quite separate tooling. FWIW,Hornby are still more than capable of pulling out all the stops and producing a first class product as witnessed by the new 9F and by models in development such as the Standard 78xxx etc.
  16. Actually,almost any thing ….Hornby N15 & S15,even LN ,WC/BB and MN ( the latter on Salisbury - Yeovil Jct - Exeter stopper turns which ensured they were returned to 72A ). A Q1 is another seen on passenger turns. Have fun !
  17. As you would expect,they are smooth runners. My SR malachite set is currently paired with olive green OOWorks Adams Jubilee.Probably the wrong livery combination I imagine but it does “look good “. The packaging impresses enormously. Yes I know it’s expensive but a treat nonetheless. Wonder when they received the malachite paint job ?

My spotter’s memory of Cardiff General….take that as you will…..of Cardiff-Portsmouth-Brighton trains of that era has no register of Hawksworths and nothing as short as 5 coaches ( with headboards )Whereas the SR in terms of new build Mark 1’s does ring bells in both c&c and SR green. A Channel Islands boat train has been suggested ,so might it be possible that this was a Bristol TM portion split at Westbury from the Paddington bound train? This would account for the short length
  19. Bath Road ( (82A ) shut its doors to steam forever in the summer of 1960 . In fact,the month before I became what was then known as a “freshman” up Park Street. Local Castles were subsequently cared for by St.Philip’s Marsh. Their enduring glory was sustained for a while by a daily out & home roster on the Cornishman for a Stafford Road turn. Other than that they were relegated to lesser roles such as parcels trains. Though I do remember a Temple Meads to Paddington trip in the Spring of ‘61 ….a Saturday extra I believe…behind 5023 . Immaculate. She kept time,passing newly completed Warships at Swindon. Though my return to TM was Warship hauled. Apologies Simon for hijacking your thread with self indulgent nostalgia. Ian.

If they were seen,it would have been enroute to WR depots after leaving the factory .Bristol Bath Road ( 82 A ) being the first to receive an allocation,followed by Canton ( 86 A) in the summer of ‘62. As a temporary resident in the area from late ‘62 to mid ‘64 ,I have no record of seeing one.

The inter regional Cardiff - Brighton ….nominally XP stopped at a number of isolated rural locations in the area. It gave you time to enjoy some lovely scenery.
  23. A diverted Paddington-Bristol express ( via Trowbridge? ) perhaps .The stock for its time a little too upmarket for the usual stop everywhere take forever Bristol - Weymouth trains which made you lose the will to live.The SR. via Salisbury trains were similarly afflicted.
