  1. I have two of the new tooling and both run perfectly..in common with the Accurascale Deltic…on 2nd radius Another is on order. There are examples on YouTube to view . If you’re not happy then return it. Think carefully before creating an issue which may be unique to individual circumstances. Scare stories are all too easy to start but not easy to stop.
  2. Perchance you are following the trend and downsizing ? TT2 or maybe OO 8 …..🤣
  3. Possibly on engineers trains, otherwise IMHO Rule 1 applies. I would think that by the late 50’s the birds have flown. Stopping trains were Maunsell or Bulleid by then.Oh dear…
  4. Well, this is where it’s not that straightforward. WR stock was normally used with SR motive power for this purpose. It would be useful if there is evidence that SR stock was in fact ever used, other than for route diversion in cases where the Meldon Viaduct route was closed. Which of course begs the question why would Southern semi fast sets be used, other than in case of emergency ? Norman Lockett also has pre 1939 images of the SR long way round which does show ex LSWR stock in train consists but either in pairs or singly and not in a 3 set.
  5. And now we need a ‘U’ 2-6-0 as a natural complement, don’t we ? Though really you could run most available rtr SR models with them as long as is chronologically correct….from both airsmoothed Bulleids to a T9 or,even better,aQ1 .A mouthwatering prospect.
  6. My contribution to the “ evidence “ can be found on the Bachmann thread. FYI all I can verify is that they worked regularly on Salisbury-Exeter stoppers during the “era” of ANTB .Thus it maybe conceivable a set could have found its way through Brent at some time c 1946/7-1950.It’s that man Lockett again. But his “Southern Steam in the South and West.” on this occasion.
  7. ‘Southern Steam in the South and West’…..that man Norman Lockett is your saviour. Page 49…..24 June 1953 . LN 30862 Weymouth-Bournemouth Central T9 30117 Wimborne- Bournemouth West. In each case a 3 set with added ex LSWR strengthener of other suburban ( maybe ) stock. Unmarked pages : captioned Honiton Bank 4 October 1947 T9 117 ( pre BR ) 3 set with added Maunsell strengthener,Salisbury-Exeter local. 9June1939….U 1792 Exeter-Salisbury stopper …3 set ….also Honiton Bank. There you go gents. But there is surely more photographic “evidence” somewhere . This book is a gem.
  8. You’re right,it certainly is.Besides which the WD releases also have sound. That’ll be interesting, especially if Bachmann can capture that infamous “clank” which denoted their passage. And of course those of us on DC only will be able to run them, albeit with restricted sound effects. I think this announcement is a restrained but positive step forward by them in what have been and still are difficult times.
  9. After a week in service it performs beautifully. Very well pleased.
  10. So…….a Bulleid Tavern Car,please. Well,if not now, then at some point in the not too distant future….
  11. I was at Gaydon yesterday,to find half of the Hornby stand …OO gauge….in the main area of the show and the other half containing the TT release in a roped off separate room guarded by a lone sentinel. She would admit only those prepared to commit to receiving its secrets ( ? ? ) and thus presumably becoming a devotee with an unspoken commitment to start all over again and either sell or pass on models and layouts assembled in OO over many years. All I wanted was a look and a word or two with SK out of pure interest .I had after all paid my entrance fee. I politely declined what I consider to be a dubious and cack handed attempt at marketing . To be perhaps fair and balanced,Bachmann’s Collectors Club has used a similar approach…but this is an entirely different ball game.
  12. Yes,my extravagance was 4 for £100.They are nice though.Great talking with you this morning. The show was well worth it. I was refused an audience with His Holiness SK unless I became a convert to TT ( there was a very nice 009 layout on an IOM theme too ) . I declined . He was later observed by self outside his roped off chapel. Nice stuff on Hornby stand included the two excellent 78XXX samples and the next full metal jacket MN in BR Green livery. Nice balance of layouts & trade. Nice venue. Helpful, polite staff and very decently filled fresh Tuna & cucumber sandwich
  13. The authority for this is Banks & Carter LNER Passenger Trains & Formations 1923-1967 . They state Bulleid stock worked the train ..apart from catering vehicles…until 1956,when BR MK 1 coaches were introduced in crimson & cream. Thus for the early 50’s you would be ok to use them. Prior to that the train was reintroduced in 1949 ,the SR stock being until about 1950/1 Maunsell. The catering vehicle was a Maunsell conversion. No indication is given as to whether the Bulleids were in C&C or green and my guess is they could have been either or indeed a mixture. Strengtheners were probably Maunsell.,again in either livery. Locomotive changes varied. Banbury,Woodford Halse,Leicester GC and not unknown for a WR loco to work through to York . In the opposite direction, there was a working by a Leicester GC B1 through to Swindon.on the Swansea - York train. So you can have fun & be flexible. From Oxford,an SR loco worked the train and could be a Nelson,an Arthur,an MN or a WC/BB.
  14. Ah ,everyone’s best car joke. Rechristened the Andante in its time IIRC. TR…..the magic letters conjuring up the gleaming sports roadster. I was once the proud owner of a Triumph 6 -cyl Vitesse. This came to a sad end when its front n/s wheel literally disintegrated leaving just the wheel nuts and a piece of jagged metal in place. The glorious era of metal fatigue and body rot. And we talk of Hornby’s lax approach to QC ? Nothing new there….as introduced by Longbridge,Dagenham,Cowley etc.
  15. To be a McEnroe, they do have some seriously good stuff in development …well they did have at MK anyway.I’m assuming Rapido to be the bearer of the urn containing my ashes to be incarcerated with, an OO rtr of a County.Hornby can provide my eternity with, appropriately enough,as befits my worth 🤪 a Saint..preferably Cefntilla Court.
  16. Though it may well have been prototypically correct at the time,it just doesn’t look right on a model railway. To compare,I am currently running the new BR (S) set coupled to the rear of its crimson & cream counterpart. The effect is ghastly to my eyes. I must mention that before running it’s advisable to check both wheel sets and underbody detailing components. One unseated length of pipe ensured one coach could move only in one direction .Fixing it challenged both eyesight & dexterity. That said,I think these coaches are excellent models.
  17. I’d agree that the BR( S ) green as applied with the new release does seem dark but a lot depends upon the lighting condition you use. I’ve also just received the first “malachite “ example and to my observations when next to a current Hornby Bulleid short malachite coach, the two together do not cause a significant clash of tone.
  18. Odd to think that Ouseburn has been developed recently as a thriving community of small businesses and quirky places to eat.
  19. But not difficult if you take a look online at the Shildon stock. This one was always going to be in the catalogue. But quite a number of us turn aside from the fact that Locomotion sponsor only those that belong in their collection.
