  1. It's for warning stripes on the front and rear of diesels - not required on LB!
  2. Would they not have run through on visits (even if terminal) to the Plant in Doncaster?
  3. "Valour" would make a good sub "Valour" would make a good subject for a magazine article build.
  4. The RN had one - M2 - which was converted from a submarine monitor. She carried a single seaplane in a hangar and was lost in 1932, possibly as a result of diving whilst the hangar door was still open.
  5. My woodwork teachers were appropriately named named Naylor and Sloggett…..
  6. I was fortunate enough to buy a kit-built V4 at a toy fair some years ago, which is a lovely model, though Tony Wright had to sort out the running and a broken crank pin for me. I believe the kit was by ABS Models and it is worth watching out for.
  7. I find it worrying that it was known 10% of drivers were not being advised of Emergency Speed Restrictions in 2014 but that no corrective action was apparently taken.
  8. I think she must have been the ship we saw from Wembury a few weeks ago. I thought it was some form of landing ship, but since I retired I don't have such easy access to magazines etc as before.
  9. Interesting to see the choice of point motor in the Retford storage loops......
  10. The storyline was comparable with that of the boys' team comic on The Apprentice - a shame to see such a descent into mediocrity s
  11. Chris - surely 1470 and 1471 make two GN pacifics?
  12. I didn't want to go outside and wander, I just wanted to sit down with a tea and maybe a bacon or sausage roll! My first visit to GETS - I don't take HMag and Gaydon was shade too far for an unknown show. Easy access and parking, reasonable width between stands and decent height avoided claustrophobia of some shows. Good choice of layouts, most previously unseen - other shows sometimes seem to feature a number of layouts making the circuit. Layouts using sound showed restraint and generally co-ordinated it with movement rather than continuous throbbing of diesels or distant gunfire. Noticeable that only one layout using corridor coaches had connections in contact. Could have done with a few more specialist traders for bits and pieces and presumably show policy to limit preservation and line societies.. A good show - will go again, domestic calendar permitting - but will take a flask and cake next time!
  13. I am one of those who think the Kingsbridge branch (Primrose Line) to have been more worthy of preservation than the Buckfastleigh one - but then we wouldn't be able to walk it.
  14. A classic album - my flatmate used to say he could tell if I had brought a girl back if Green Onions was playing. Etiquette demanded his jumping on the manhole cover in the front garden to give an audible warning of impending interruption....
  15. Sorry, but I thought this Ivatt replica was a kettle?
  16. Thanks for this statement. It is unfortunate that the delivery problems have sometimes overshadowed our appreciation of what is a lovely model. Please do not allow our occasional frustration deter you from the production of future models of this standard - hopefully starting with some GN/ECJS coaches to accompany this and the Atlantic!
  17. Would X not have been an alternative class designation - presumably vacant since the last single was withdrawn? I also like the X class being the unknown quantity......
  18. I have one of those as well. Conversion to 2 rail was easy, just changing the collector shoes, but I don't think it would get on very well with Peco bullhead track. The box has the price written on it - 68/1.
  19. There were several different designs of both GN and LNER buffer stops (I think Lanarkshire Models produce kits for some) - it might be worth enquiring of the GNRS regarding use of the alternate designs.
  20. Does dyno ride a little high? Perhaps 1/3 of a buffer higher than the single or a Hornby Gresley.
  21. Lucky Me! Mine was delivered about 30 minutes ago (no email) and has been running smoothly and quietly with a dynamometer car and two Holden bogie coaches in tow. A lovely model - congratulations and thanks to all at Locomotion and Rapido. Now, does it live in the display cabinet with 251 and the prototype Deltic or on the layout (supposedly 1938) with 3251? That single driver is fascinating to watch...…...
