  1. The video clips emphasise just how little protection was provided for the footplate crew.
  2. Ordered Thursday afternoon and delivered Friday morning - and a very nice little model it is too. Only problem is that Mrs 2750 quickly spotted it was to a different gauge (she said "scale") to the dynamometer car and bolster wagon also recently delivered!
  3. I am another who ordered early and paid in full but has not received an email. Reading earlier posts, I had wondered whether emails had been sent to the wrong addresses and you seem to confirm it. Do we by any chance have Bernard J and Simon D amongst our number?
  4. I believe the late Malcolm Crawley referred to the BR shade as "cowpat green"...….
  5. Please may I ask a question regarding the model? There has been a considerable number of posts recently regarding the use of coreless motors in new models, one poster reporting damage to the new Bachmann Baldwins through use of a feedback controller. Please, in advance of delivery of my order for the DC version of this model, what type of motor is fitted and what, if any, recommendations do Rapido/Locomotion have regarding appropriate power supplies/controller?
  6. Occasional only. Virtually no butterflies in early June, now plenty of assorted whites, speckled wood, gatekeeper, blues, resident comma and friends and brimstone. Tortoiseshells also a rarity. Hopefully do better in Devon shortly. Has anyone else noticed a lack of interest in Buddleia this year? Is the dry weather reducing the amount of available nectar?
  7. My Dad did this with a number of our locos. My apple green 0-4-0 had an Eclipse bar magnet replacing the field coil, as did Pychley. I think the SR motor coach had a horseshoe magnet for some reason. Still got them somewhere, now I guess some bright spark will suggest I convert them to DCC!
  8. Thanks for posting this link - quite a time since I looked at this sit.
  9. For those of us seeking to increase our knowledge on a fairly specialised subject without researching primary sources, vol 1 seemed ideal. Has there been any update/comment by the authors/publishes in the light of the reported deficiencies?
  10. My model arrive his morning, and very nice it is too. If the hints from Locomotion result in further models of this standard from Rapido (GN/ECJS clerestories?) I should be very happy...… and poorer.
  11. During this sunny hot spell, we have got into the habit of sitting in the garden with a tray of tea and an ice cream about 4.30 - 5pm. We have a regular companion, a comma which perches in a pear tree close to us but has also perched on a seat back and yesterday on the book my wife was reading! We have noticed that whenever another butterfly (mostly assorted whites) passes, he takes off to investigate. Usually it is a cursory inspection but on occasions he has discovered another of his species, which led to what can only be described as a spat - presumably the stranger was of similar gender. He has no problem with sharing his tree with other species as an emerald green damselfly was perching within 15" of him yesterday. We are surprised at the distance he can detect another butterfly - certainly in excess of 30'. Could a more knowledgeable enthusiast advise if this is purely visual or are other senses involved? And are his forays motivated sexually or territorially?
  12. I don't think you could class Mr Bacon as undernourished - cannibalism can be fattening!
  13. It would be interesting to know what was specified in terms of electrical supply, compatibility and performance for this and other new models. The Rapido team seem to be sound production engineers and ingenious designers. Had the need for compatibility with ALL currently produced control systems been specified - and possibly sample systems provided - it is possible that they would have derived a different engineering solution, possibly reducing the (unrealistic?) load hauling capacity in the interests of satisfying a wider market. As a matter on interest, has anybody actually tested this model on a feedback controller?
  14. Never easy. We have had to have two cats put to sleep (the first aged 22) and two dogs over a period of 35 years. Take the vet's advice but if possible, let the dog tell you. Our Airedale is beginning to show signs of dementia and will stop in the middle of a walk and stare around her; she sometimes lies in the house barking to herself for no apparent reason. But she still wags her tail when she greets us, enjoys her food and walks and sits up in the car to watch the world go by. Her predecessor had skin cancer and we prolonged her life for about 8 months with various treatments but there came an afternoon walk when she just looked at me to tell me she had had enough. When the time comes for your dog it will "leave its pawprints on your heart" but you may after a while find another. It will be a different animal and personality but it may come to mean just as much to you, without dimming your memories and affection for its predecessor.
  15. I always thought that part of the novelty of J70s was the sideskirts, but the shots showing the motion in operation are intriguing. Does the coreless motor cope with feedback type DC controllers?
  16. I have a Millholme Models kit sitting on a shelf...…… and a D & S dynamometer car....
  17. The rule of thumb used to be that the cost of a project increased as the square root of the number of participating countries.
  18. My old class 5 was the most powerful locomotive I have come across. In my teenage years I coupled it to a train with a Dublo Duchess on the other end and it literally pulled train and Duchess backwards. I remember acquiring it by a trade-in of the old bakelite track with Hattons in the late 50s/early 60s. Incidentally, can't the class 5 and Brit be converted between 2 and 3 rail by simply changing the collection shoes?
  19. Love the nom-de-plume. Second grandson is now a week overdue. Sadly, my suggested naming of Isambard Kingdom Brunel 2750papyrus has not been well received.
  20. My experience of consultants is that they pick the brains of employees who are usually ignored and then present the results as their own work. A consultant is "someone who borrows your watch to tell you the time".
  21. I also attended "Trains at Trinity" in Biggy yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it , though it was small. In addition to my enjoyment of the M&GN loco, I was very taken with the Carette GN 440s on a static display, a model which I have not seen before. I had concluded from your choice of name and references to Bedford that we must be near neighbours!
