  1. Right. So it is equipped with eight pick-ups that don't all necessarily touch the wheels. Should be an easy fix for a railway modeller (even though it shouldn't be necessary).

As we have seen from Tractors reply, the pick ups dont actually touch the wheels..............I am not familiar with this pick up method....so should we now assume its not quite the easy fix.

From a brief look at my pals model yesterday( see my posted video #555 ) there appeared no easy fix at that moment.  He is a pretty good railway modeller....but is NOT about to tackle this one.

It goes back to his model shop next week for attention.  Interestingly, his email reply from Bachmann did suggest a return to the dealer for attention,  should be perhaps his first port of call, and they would address the issue.    I wonder if retailers are recompensed for any re work required.??

  2. I didnt update my iphone thanks to picking up the msg on here from Kevpeo......I noticed today that the update version number had changed to 1.8.3 from 1.8.2

I have updated Touchcab on my iphone and will try it all out this evening.

Sorry a bit late in adding.......everything is perfect from my perspective......very happy.

  3. Can't say for sure how.I seem to remember reports in 'Trains Illustrated' 's 'Motive Power Miscellany' (remember that?) about their travels at the time. They did have a history of working far into LMR territory....going back into the 1950's.There were regular summer Saturday workings along the North Wales coast line to Llandudno by them.....one from Leicester GC,I think...but others too.

In the last years of steam locos wandered sometimes far off their usual haunts.I remember anotherB1 turning up at Bristol Temple Meads in late 1962 (failed Peak diesel,I think) on a working from Sheffield. Regards,Ian.

Thank Ian.....my B1 is on order as we speak...!!!

    Rgds.......Bob.

  4. No....workings by March B1's into Crewe were not uncommon then...difficult as it might be to believe.Well and truly working.

    Hi Ian,

I dont doubt you for a minute, but I would have remembered if I saw one......I lived on the north edge of Crewe, close to the WC main line.   I wonder, did these work in via Derby, Egginton Jnc, Uttoxeter, Stoke.......some local friends here in Uttoxeter say they also saw "sixers" through Uttoxeter, but they then took the Old Clog and Knocker line to Stafford.....long gone now.

    Bob.

  5. You might just squeeze in with the next release...full on indicator- nosed D 369 (1B ),spotted by me at Crewe in September 1963 on the same day and same place as 61233 ( 31B ) ,73036 ( 89A ) and 45512 (12B )

    61233 at Crewe...????

I was born and bred in Crewe, son of a 5A fireman/driver, and I was 15 in 1963...height of my spotting career.......but never ever saw a "sixer" in Crewe.

Was it working.........or on the scrap line possibly on Crewe South.??

  6. Jens has released a small 'bug fix' update on I-tunes. But be warned, I tried updating on my lads I-pod first, and it wiped the configuration/loco/acc list completely!  So I transferred the list back from my I-pod and then tried updating the daughters I-pad (I use them as back ups) with the same result. So if you have a lot of data stored, back up to another device first. Kev.

Thanks for the heads up Kev........I'm not experiencing any difficulties with my current version......so will hang fire doing any upgrade.

    Thanks....Bob.

  7. Thanks Sam and John.

An order will be winging it's way west.

    Mike.

Worth remembering you get what you pay for. But if you spend a hundred quid or more on a fine loco, I personally would fit better decoders.

If they are DCC Concepts decoders, they are sort of ok ish, but there are better, e.g. Lenz

    Just my opinion

  8. I think its a little concerning that upwards of 3 million quid's worth of kit has been sitting on a dockside for 2 weeks now instead of being out earning money for the owners.

    Down time and all that!

I'd love to know the real reason they are still there.......but as they are the first imports for Colas, you do wonder if they didnt fill in all the necessary paperwork etc.,  I wonder if Seaforth Dock Authority are charging them rent too.??

  9. So it's not really surprising that they haven't moved then!  I did wonder if they were stuck in the docks because someone had forgotten some trivial paperwork - such as an import licence :O  However it now looks as if they might have overlooked some other essential such as jacking gear or a crane :scratchhead:

Yes, this seems quite odd.....as they have clearly beened craned off the trailers they arrived on, but are still on what looks like wooden blocks or chocs...???

  10. Curiously, I find myself, (as an avid Hattons fan) writing to flag some concerns about the direction they are going in.

As a modeller and collector in Brisbane, every year (for the past thirty) I expend a couple of thousand pounds with this firm on my hobby (a frightening indulgence, I know).  I do this, because I find them ethical in the extreme in dealing with any issues which may arise.

As most are aware, Hattons have recently delved into selling pre-owned (like new) stock.  Taking a liking to a set of four boxed 3 planks with BD containers at only a modest discount to new price, I placed an order. Only one wagon arrived which, when unboxed was found to be devoid of couplers.  When contacted, Hattons were their usual courteous selves in sorting out the mistake with the missing wagons, but concerning the absence of couplings, stated that they were purchased 'as is'. Now, I  am generally fine with the 'buyer beware' principle, but when the wagons are only illustrated with one middle distance photo of four wagons in their boxes I feel that they have a duty to disclose absence of couplers in the product descriptive.  Only a minor niggle I know, as a bag of couplings are probably about a fiver, but something I feel Hattons would not perhaps have done a few years ago.....

The helpful retail assistance members seem to have acknowledged this, and hopefully Hattons will adjust their practices on pre-owned selling.  What do RMWeb members think?

I'm afraid its the risk you take, in my opinion, when you buy something unseen.

I restrict my purchases to model shops, exhibitions and toy fairs, where I can see and examine the item before I buy.

Ebay and online prices may seem attractive, but can let you down.

I have never used Hattons to buy from online, and only very rarely had to resort to that method of purchase when left with no other option.

On a visit to Liverpool with friends a few weeks ago, we visited Hattons.....I'm afraid it left me cold as a model shop goes.  Lack of atmosphere that I am familiar with at other local model shops, and I hardly think you might get offered a cup of tea.   The impression I got was that it just about the sale, which is important I accept, but at the expense of any friendly small talk.

This is all just my opinion and impression, as I also accept that the service they offer online is second to none.

    Bob

PS......I assume you are from Oz, so you are left with few options ........ good luck.
