  1. From what I understand also the design of the 58s are a bit of a pain to work on compared to other fleets. Don't ask me how exactly I am just going on stuff I have been told from family friends who worked on the 58s back in the day, and now complain the DB fleet is boring and taken the fun out of it! Ok small update to this one of the issues that was one of the classes down fall is the main chassis unlike you my find in other classes for structural reasons it was a one piece chassis so if they were damaged or needed the cab frame replacing it was a hell of a task. Where as other classes (even older ones) had a compartment type structure so the frame under the cab could be taken out and swapped easily for another frame, I know the HST power cars use this. So if the frame had to be redone and welded in not just bolted in effect it is a big task meaning the availability was down, hence they have gone before other classes that don't have this issue.
  2. Morning All, Just found something interesting which points out just how influential a successful kick start can be. Last year there was a unsuccessful kickstart for a OO gauge GWR Railcar but it had a good patronage (sadly not good enough). If you go to the Dapol website and look at the development page for OO you will see in final CAD design phase a GWR railcar it's fair to say coincidence maybe but Dapol may have seen that and said people want that kind of stuff lets give it to them! So if Pendo fits what you want layout wise especially if you want AC locos well this can only make them listen harder to us seems that kickstart may have made them take a look at the possibilities!
  3. It may come down to how those who have pledged for multiple sets getting things across the line. If some who have done this are willing to though advertise them first on the forums or offer them to people in your situation Steve, at a good price even pre-arranged then they have got a sale for sure and you get one at more cost to yourself but not playing Ebay roulette trying to get one and hoping you don't have to sell your soul to the devil to get one!
  4. Totally agree Njee, if someone is prepared to buy it at a stupid price then more fool them! People who are in the situation Steve is in can look at it and make an informed choice as most of the pledges have come from people on the forums so well all know the cost of the sets and can make a fair and informed choice instead of the Ebay lottery and avoiding the p*ss takers!

    EBay madness

22 quid for that!! he must be on crack or trying to get money for crack! It's worth a fiver max!!
  6. Steve, I think there will be plenty of people in your situation, that's were people pledging for ones to sell on ebay helps! While it may cost say someone like yourself more, as long as it is reasonable then I don't feel there is any harm in making a few quid out of it in the end it could very well be those that want to sell them on Ebay that get things over the line, then it gives the likes of people in your situation a second chance to get one. The only issues I have with it personally are well one of familiar issues with ebay people taking the proverbial P*ss with the amount they are asking, and secondly if people are selling the poppy edition for a profit well are they going to donate a small amount of the profit to the RBL. I know the second one can not be controlled and is all down to a persons personal preference I just think from a personal stance it would be the right thing to do!
  7. Sadly from what the mainstream manufacturers say may be true for the sales of what they have offered. But if they don't offer more then people won't look at modeling that kind of scene lets face it DCC ready for the west coast all we have had is 86s, 221s, and 380s and well since the days I can remember clearly (early 90s) they are not the only things to have passed through Crewe etc. Should this all come off then not only will it get another model onto the market it will make the mainstream companies look at it and think one simple thing "People REALLY want this", which I know personally I want to see. It just brings a new fresh approach to the whole thing even if mainstream makes used this kind of kickstart system to get models to market I know if they did and I wanted what they were offering I would put my money in, end of the day ever so often it take a "revolution" if you like to freshen things up and the only people who can do that is us the people that buy the models by taking action of some sort.
  8. I know it's kind of late in the day now, But as has been pointed for a retailer to splash out for say 10 of the 9 coach sets and have to wait for them is a relatively big ask, would it not be worth trying to get them towards the 5 coach sets instead with an option to buy the 2 coach add on pack in this first period. The with agreement between all parties then say after 1 year then have a second 2 coach pack come out so those retailers that have had interest in extra coaches to make a 9 coach set from the original 5 coach set. I just makes it less of a financial burden on the retailers and gives them some incentive for follow up sales with he 2 extra coach packs, at the end of the day they all have one aim to make money and using the 5 coach sets in this way would give them potentially bigger rewards for a potential risk!
  9. Ron, We bow down to your talents they look amazing the whole train shed is really coming together, cant wait to see the continuing class of your layout come together!
  10. Happy new year everyone

Thank you very much. Every blessing to you too.

  11. One simple way to stop these so called artists (vandalizing scum) if they are caught say spraying a Colas class 70 well get the staff who will have to deal with the cleaning / repaint job go to the individuals home and give them some unwanted paint jobs on their car etc then they can feel the pinch of having get the car etc repainted, all out of their own pocket of course! I know it will never happen but wow if it did they wouldn't want to be driving around in a car with lines like "I am a vandalizing little Sh*t bag" all over it! We have care in the community so why not punishment in the community!
  12. Sadly it is in no way plausible to put every loco in a secure shed, the cost of building them alone at every location would rule it out then you have all the other tit bits like planning permission! Lets just do it properly make the idea of committing crime less favorable! Harder punishments or as my dad had in his day a good smack from a copper or the foreman always taught him a lesson!
  13. And that there is the problem! Never been Hinksey personally but if it is that remote makes it a better target for these plebs, sadly they have a Max Power Corsa and a sad use of time!
  14. I hate graffiti gremlins! I know its more corporate image than pride but it is nice to see trains getting taking care of with their appearance even if it is due to yobs!
  15. Sorry mate edited it was meant to say insight! Having a moment there!!!
  16. Cheers for the insight Jim, As I say never been don't that in neck of the woods so interesting to get an insight and gives me potential ideas!
  17. With the whole thing it was likely a one of them jobs that when on first look it looks like a 2 day job but when you start getting into it then it becomes apparent that the original job may only be a 2 day job but there are other issues hidden and it all takes longer! As I have never been London using the East Coast and Kings Cross is that a flyover into the tunnels going into Kings Cross? Acko

  22. Evening gents, Ok had 2 pledges put on for the Poppy Pendo so will add them on and a kind offer from a member who had already pledged for one to give me the extra tenner himself, so I will class that as a third! Sadly not as much as I was hoping but its better than a kick in the balls! The money will go straight to the legion as don't want Kick start getting their hands on any of it and well only way to do that is give it straight to the RBL at the end of the pledging period with the rest of the money hopefully raised. Ben you can keep me to my word, well we all know how journalists like to gossip!!
  23. Ok Gents, It's Midnight there is currently 9 pledges at the start of the 2 days anyone who pledges in the next 48 hours for a Poppy Edition as I said up to 100 ponds I will match the donation! As we say in work the balls in your court! Acko
