With regard to the search issue, I’m told by a chap who is paid to understand such things the the open source Mayan document management software has an automatic ocr facility. I’m experimenting with Mayan at work and one of the tests will be to see how good the ocr facility is wrt jpeg images. If it is all that is promised it may be the solution. DrD -

Dear all, For those interested in wagons and the GWR’s wagons in particular the wagon registers at Kew and York are a mine of useful information. But being so far apart consulting them is difficult for many of us (for example Kew is easily doable for me but York not). So I was wondering if as a community we could collaborate in photographing the registers and sharing the resulting images. I imagine we’d need two teams, one photographing the Kew files, one the York. We could then either set up our own io type group to host the images, or ask Andy York if RMweb could (but I suspect there would be too many files) or ask an organisation like the GW study group to host it in their io group. In the much longer term we could transpose the information into an excell spreadsheet which would be easier to share and be searchable - but this would be a very long job. What to people think? Dear all, I’m sure we were all saddened to hear of Adrian Swain’s passing after a long illness. It set my inner historian thinking and having rooted through my catalogue stash from long lost businesses, I’ve found that my copy of his last catalogue (the blue one) didn’t survive the last house move. So I was wondering if anyone had a copy they could scan and post here both for posterity and to encourage anyone who might be thinking of resurrecting the ABS/Four Most range. Indeed any catalogues of Adrian's other ranges would be very welcome to add more interest in and information on his contribution as a businessman to our hobby. Regards, Duncan

Hi Richard, Thanks for the comment. Yes the door handles are on the wrong side - now corrected (with a great deal of CAD huffing and puffing) Yes half the partitions are missing - but that is deliberate as the ones there are for strength- the others will be cosmetic and added via a false floor with the seats etc for interior detailing (and easy removal for painting etc). The other mistake was that I didn't mirror the slots to take the roof strengthening ribs. That was the easy one! Here is the proof: Next job is a test print of the body, roof and BG underframe (and to modify the BG underframe into a NG version)... Regards Duncan -

Dear all, I have come to the conclusion that drawings are inaccurate and only dimensions will do. I had this completely unsurprising revelation whilst using drawings from various sources to make CAD artwork for 3d printing. This is not to impugn the draftsmen or women involved in the drawing but merely to recognize the impact of line thickness and pixelation. So does anyone have the heights from the solebar/floor (ie the bottom of the coach side) join to the top of the eaves panels of the following types of coaches using the Lewis classification? CAA12B CAE12N CAE7N CEE7N CAE12CN Some time ago Penhros1920 of this parish kindly supplied me with the heights for low roofed coaches (6'2 and 6'5 depending on eaves type if you are interested), so its just clerestories info (and my cackhanded attempts at 3D design - see my £D workbench thread for some of the designs mistakes I've been making recently) that are holding up the 3d production of coaching stock for Nampara. Gone on, do it. The BG version is rather handsome to my eye. Certainly Broad and narrow gauge Standard goods are on the intended loco roster for Nampara but I think rule one will have to be used as I don’t think the BG version made it past Plymouth and 0–6-0 tender engines will be rather overkill for a branchline c1891... Well, as well as slowly progressing other 3D projects in my idle moments at work, I have been working on my first coach - an E19/20 brake composite of 1888/89. Its a convertible coach, with a narrow gauge body on top of broad gauge under frames (I'll be doing a narrow gauge under fame too). It is the ancestor of the ubiquitous flush sided 'B-sets' of the late interwar period. (The GWR coaching consignetti will no doubt be thinking that the B set refers to a particular coach formation - which varied over time and division of the GWR - not a coach diagram in itself and there were several different types of flush sided brake composite diagrams used - but 'B set' is a handle that many will understand. Personally I blame Airfix...) Anyway, I was congratulating myself on it being ready for a text print (and to see if the combined roof, body and under frame will fit in the printer - it does, just) when I noticed two not so deliberate mistakes. Can you spot them? A clue - one is easy to fix. The other had me cursing myself hoarse when I noticed it and I'm still not sure how easy it will be to correct.... Regards Duncan -

Making scale drawings from photos

I think GIMP has changed as I can’t persuade it to behave the way Martin describes. Can anyone help? I’m trying to adjust the end on perspective of the photo below so I can use it in a CAD program to give a reasonable approximation of the end elevation . Thanks Duncan -

I’m using ply sleepers with Exactoscale chairs for my transverse sleepered mixed gauge ‘Nampara for Hendrawna’ layout set in 1890-92 that is very slowly emerging from the loft workshop clutter. -
