I know the feeling of having a mystery mess of parts dumped out of the package. But it does slowly and satisfyingly go together after a bit of knolling.

Could you stick a pin to the back?
How small is that brass tag anyway? Could you maybe drill a .5mm hole through it and use a brass pin?

Not only the GWR, but several other companies had one ended brake vans at one point or another, although most seem to have eventually gone for a double ended design.
You would think a double ended design would use less wood as youre framing and covering less wall area.

What do you mean I havent updated this thread in 2 months?
Progress on the American has regretably been slow. Id like to have the drivers before I get the locomotive more together, and thats where the delay lies.
But I had gotten the pilot together and the cab laminated from lasercut parts.
I also planned and am building a G3 boxcar.
And theres a 1/24 tugboat that Im aiming to put RC in.
Ill see you all in several more months when I remember to post again.

isn't that more or less how Flickr was before they just gave everyone a TB for free?
Its less how they used to be vs how they will be and more the fact they gave a TB free to ALL members, convinced everyone to upload to Flickr, gained massive amounts of photos, and are now dangling permanent deletion of files over peoples heads.
Though I will parrot some peoples complaints on the Flickr forums that the 1000 photo limit is arbitrarily chosen. 1000 photos could take more or less server space depending on quality. Surely their "justification" for these changes is server space per userbase, so therefore the limit for free accounts should be based on storage size, not an arbitrary number.

I would say, no such thing as a 'Free Lunch'.
Windows 10 seems to me to be heading in a similar direction - we haven't paid a cent for years yet we still expect it to be updated.

Of what Ive heard on the internet, No, people are most certainly not expecting W10 to update constantly, and very often would prefer it not to at all.

Welcome.
So will your overhead knitting be live?
Would definitely simplify the wiring of the pointwork.

Ill give em one thing. Its definitely a bus.

Hi tricky, that's the biggest box I have seen in model form, except for the gauge 3 lads, great job too, very well done with that.
Peter A L.
Someone on here is doing an LNWR Box in 5" gauge. Of the LNWR contest entries, Im following this and that one very closely.

Id doubt the "required" DCC idea.
Im one of them American youths.
I can see the thought process, DCC= computers which them youngins always want. But thats not what modelling is about. Its about...building models.
Also, young people arent using Facebook. Nor are they sharing their creative sides on other social medias. Thats what forums and messageboards are for. If you can spread the word of modelling forums, showing the younger audience that there is a large digital community they can join, that would probably go a long way to convincing some people to join. When I actually look, I find modelling boards Ive never heard of. But theyre often so outdated in style and structure its hard to navigate. Straight out of the late 90s when the likes of RMWeb or WesternThunder have modern updated webpages with easy to use UI's.
Then you get into the real issue, life in general isnt as easy as it used to be. With inflation, squeezing debt, and lifestyles with less and less free time, you are bound to find more and more people without a time sink hobby or who would WANT to join but cant afford it due to more important concerns.
The interest is always there, its just convincing people their time, money, and energy CAN be put to modelling use. And sometimes, it just cant.

Wow, ironic. As Photobucket seems to (sorta) rise from its grave, Flickr begins digging its own!
Speaking of which, Ive just finished chopped my Flickr library from 1300 to about 400.

Im sure even by todays standards, a tapered roofline is a bit of a pain to work out and build.

The UK shipping charge is rather OTT as well!
Oh, dont worry, Its still terrible for the US as well!

What a ballache, found it, uploaded new sprued model as the price had more than doubled to be told I can't update it to preserve pricing! Now uploaded as new model! I'm very slowly getting round to reuploading my 16mm scale stuff and linking to the website.
Id say you take the time to upload to one of Shapeways Competitor sites, as I doubt THEY would pull this stunt. If we can even call it a stunt seeing as its their new business model...

Just HAD to share this Gem.
Not only is the title complete garbage, along with the section its in, The one and only photo is a photo of a computer screen showing a page from a craft site.
At least the description matches the picture...I think.

Ive just had some person make a single digit value best offer on a half dozen of my locos.
why would i consider selling various Bachman / Hornby steam locos, working, in good -excellant condition in their boxes for less than a tenner ?
I declined the bids on each, so he raised the price from £4 to £5.
Ive no time for that, Hes on my blocked bidder list now, and in this instance i shared that with him to.
With feedback of over 300 you’d think he would have some sense, or are there really people out there who will sell Black5’s jubs etc at £4 ?
If you want to use the Best Offer option at all, Id recommend setting a lower limit, below which theyll instantly be denied. Though obviously make it sensible. No sense setting the offer £5 below an item selling for £200. But at least itll stop people throwing out a ridiculous offer and wasting your time.

How the hell do you set something as for sale these days, or even do anything with a 3D model once uploaded?
You have to go BACK to 3D models, clock on the 3 dots, THEN click make a product, but dont then delete the product if you want to make a change bc that then breaks that file and you have to start again.
Yes, Its a stupid convoluted process that would have been better if they left it alone.

Some years ago, Wildswan did a book on the Midland version, it may still be in print, though of course you may already have it.
Possibly still available through the Midland society. Got my copy maybe 6-12 months ago.

The Schenectady built ones are quite good looking, though I may be a bit biased to my home state. Look forward to seeing this progress.
Though I must say, the Baldwin built ones have a bit more of a hybrid look to them that appeals to me.

I'm finding for my FUD bodyshells they are a LOT cheaper. Doing dummy upload tests and price comparisons.
Anything that is cheaper will be getting re-uploaded. We are talking £20-30 cheaper no joke.
How does that work out when you factor in the new shipping speeds and quotes?
Strange to have such a sharp decrease in price.
Ive only had time to check a couple of my designs through reuploads and from what I saw, the only thing that went down slightly was silver, which is of no use to me.
Brass OTOH went up sharply.

Well it looks like with Shapeways new price calculations, theyve also completely overhauled the 3D models pages AGAIN, further "simplifying" it and negating any functionality that was left.

Something to consider, the flip top axlebox was a very much welcome invention. Quite the annoyance having to lug a wrench or two down both sides of the train and undo and redo hundreds of bolts a day. Even worse for early America where each car had twice the number of axleboxes and many more miles between stops.

I empathize and feel for you.
I've been through this exact stripe too many times.
Get used to it is literally all I can say. Wish I had something better to say but I don't. They won't budge on the awkwardness and stupidity.
They can do great work yet they often make it hard on us to get a result.
This is why I said earlier I believe they are discouraging sprues to charge us more. So retarded and unrealistic.
The strange thing, is Ive seen forum posts FROM SW staff, specifically replying to Guy Rixon, on adding MORE items to a specific sprue due to the pricing changes wiping out its viability.
So spruing either IS or ISNT encouraged in however it will either make them more money or make them look like the good guys who arent trying to cheat you.

Did you order natural-finish brass or polished?
I always order the "natural finish" which always comes out polished anyway because apparently they cant read over at shapeways.
I got an email back from their CS regarding my denied print.
His solution, "separate the parts"
Yeah, Like Id pay $14 EACH for 11 parts. What a joke.
"Its more than one part" NO IT ISNT. Thats literally what a sprue is for.
I'm a Yankee Mogul Dandy...

You could go the American route and have each truck pick up from one rail with the other side insulated. No wipers and easy wiring to the bolster pin.
