  1. I just finished an American Inglenook to play with out in the garden. It turned out so nicely and almost West Highland Line-like, that I couldn't resist "abusing" it as stage for some of my Scottish rolling stock:
  2. As for the name quest: as long as it's not Drumnadrochit, I'll be ok with anything.
  3. Hi Peter Just stumbled over your thread while browsing for N gauge footbridges on Google. Nice work there, and the price seems more than just fair for the intricate richness in detail that you've added. I think I'll order one as soon as my credit card is set back to 0.-, which should be by June 8th. Cheers from Switzerland Kosta
  4. Close guess then. I'll soon start my own thread on "Drumnadrochit" - found a layout inspiration by Ian Futer in his "Modelling Scotland's Railways" book and found this to be the perfect "prototype" for my testing layout, which I had started with no particular location in mind two years ago. It has undergone a few changes in the past, and I've learned all my lessons from trying different modelling techniques, so I was up to either dismantle it to start on the WHL, or make something else out of it. Drumnadrochit seemed to be almost perfect to integrate everything I've had built so far, so I only recently started reshaping and refurbishing work on the layout. It's currently listed in a microlayout competition, so I can't show more of it than a few trees that I've built during the first two days of sunshine and warmth out in my very own garden. More to come! Cheers, Kosta
  5. Hi Steve, Really looking forward to your little gem progressing. One question: I see you've used Peco platform edgings - how did you bend them? Cheers, Kosta
  6. Looking be-au-ti-ful! Makes me want to grab my stuff, jet over to the Isle and have some of my rolling stock enjoy the scenery! Thumbs up!
  7. Hi David Modelling the West Highland myself, I shall be watching this project very closely and with great interest. Thrilled to see more come to life in 3D! Cheers, Kosta
  8. Are you going to produce this one, too? https://www.virgintrains.co.uk/about/media-room#/pressreleases/virgin-trains-introduces-flying-scotsman-to-the-commuter-route-1359291 Haha! Happy April Fool's Day!
  9. Let me guess - you used to cut up Pola's "Rico" / Model Powers "Erie R.R." Station to create your WHL station, as it's the closest thing you could get to resemble them?
  10. @meanach I totally overread your post. The road is Noch landscaping plaster, finely sanded down and coloured with airbrush colours in several grey tones.
  11. To add up to that: how did you create those beautiful shrubs on top of the embankment? They' re gorgeous!
  12. Absolutely fantastic!! You've done a brilliant job on landscaping and ballasting - now I'm anxious to see the station building finished! Cheers, Kosta
  13. Jerry, There are a few inspirational ideas on this page. Might be of interest to you: www.carendt.com Kosta
  14. Dag Sulzer! The WHL is what I am most interested in, so if you do start on that one, I will follow your activities with the greatest interest. I myself am planning on recreating the line between Rannoch or Corrour down to Roy Bridge in N gauge, after I have given up plans on including the Extension, too. It'd be just too much cramped in limited space and would take decades to finish. I am taking part in a microlayout competition though, for which I am currently building Fort Augustus Station on the former Invergarry & Fort Augustus Railway, set in present day. If you're looking for places to run Highland engines in, the I&FAR might be a subject worth looking at, though it was short-lived and closed down in the 1920ies. One might consider that - apart from the truth, that the line was a financial disaster from the beginning - it might have survived into modern times and been expanded through the Great Glen into Inverness. Also, the Callander & Oban might be of interest to you, as it is the closest link between the WHL / HML that really had existed. Whatever your decision will be made on - I'll add you and follow your progress. Cheers from Zurich Kosta
  15. Over a year later - any news from Loch Tarbhit?
  16. Just out of curiousity: I've seen a lot of beautiful images of WHL Swiss chalet-style stations in both N and OO gauge. Can anyone tell me if there is a manufacturer around that produces those stations, as they all don't look like they were scratchbuilt.... ?
  17. Oooh, long time, no post. Time to give y'all an update on the Ko'ness:
  18. Excellent! I would've voted for a Scottish prototype, but this one could be just as useful. Btw., here's a picture of your bungalow completed. A superb model, though fitting the gables and painting the cornerstones was somewhat of a challenge.
  19. What one can make out of a Kestrel design: It still lacks guttering, but I think the overall impression is worthy of a Scottish layout.
  20. Hey Shaun Happy to see that you're modelling one of the most interesting railway spots in Scotland. Hope you've been able to continue work on your layout within the past few months. Would be happy to see some pictures of your progress! Cheers, Kosta
  21. Hi all! Long time, no see. Having been quite busy during summer, I've made no progress whatsoever on the Ko'ness and Maneill - until recently. Slightly disappointed with the things the way they are - mainly being unable to simply let trains run and not do anything about it, so no shunting or whatever - I decided to turn my point-to-point layout into a tailchaser. I added three modules and am currently waiting for insulation foam boards to fix to the base and to get to the correct height of the existing two modules. Nevertheless, I decided to give up on the harbour area, as it seems to be out of place for a remote Scottish "end of the line" (which no longer will be). So I've done some work on the coastline, extinguished the harbour "walls" and created a natural coastline: Fitting leftover foam pieces to form rocks / Cutting through the hill to make space for the future track Cut back hillside Building rocks Basic colouring T.b.c. [grin]
  22. Hey Andy I just discovered Glenfinick in here, after having seen it on some youtube-channel before. You've done an excellent job on that layout, I was impressed from the first moment on. Congrats! Can't wait to get mine finally done... and I already regret not having started a continuous running layout. Cheers from Switzerland Kosta
