  1. Looking on the Bachmann site, they are releasing 66779 and the steam train Evening Star.

What is the UPS about the NRM limited editions? As far as one can tell the standard Bachmann release has etched name plates.

Livery samples are on the Bachmann site:

  2.

The green is wrong as well, it's actually Teal Green which should have a blue tint to it, but then they got the blue FGW wrong too.

Here's hoping it's just a simple mistake with the artwork and they'll get the model correct - lets face it, I'm sure they know what they're doing.

I would say it is wrong because it is a computer representation. The artwork for the Mk3s is correct, also  the Hitachi Class 800/0 sample at Warley captured GWR green very well. (Better than Bachmann's take on GWR green. Wow just said it, Hornby have done GWR green more accurately than Bachmann who are usually spot on!).

What I am more interested in, is whether the GWR branding shall be etched. On asking Hornby they were unable to comment.

  3. Thanks for clarifying. I just wish you were the ones selling the Colas 47 for that price! ;)

Just not looking hard enough! ;)

Try the Hobby Shop in Faversham: http://hobb-e-mail.com/Bachmann-32816nf-colas-rail-47727-rebecca---preview-12207-p.asp

    £135 in postage.

I have decided, I am more than content with my ViTrains 47739 Robin of Templecombe. Robin seems to be Colas's 'favourite' as she is always presented clean. Also seems to get the most geographical spread out of the three 47s Colas owns. Shame, as if Bachmann did either Robin or City of Truro I would of sold the ViTrains model. But I just cannot see why I should sell my preferred model and name for a Bachmann 47.

  4. I too am holding out for a DRS set. If they were £49 I would be content. Be happy they are now in tooling in BR liveries. As I have many more years to wait until Bachmann, if ever make DRS! £150 for three is very reasonable when compared to a 2 car GWR 150/2 or a 4 car SWT 450!

  5. I know not directly related to the 68, but I'm sure there must be other people doing the same thing now.

I'm currently respraying a number of mk3s into Chiltern Railways livery for the upcoming 68. I've got the right shades of paint but I cannot find anywhere offering the correct decals. I've searched high and low, Fox Transfers, R3sprays, Railtec etc but to no success.

I was wondering if someone may know somewhere that sells them?

Please excuse me if I'm being blind and one of those previously mentioned companies do offer a decal pack!

    Thanks in advance

    Joe

PM me. I am sure I can help out. I did over a dosen earlier this year. Though I would be surprised not to see them in the Hornby 2017 line up.... seeing as Oxford's are going to take a few good years to work through the variation in the Mk3s

  6. Yes indeed, just to add some more details. 800101 is T37 in the Test Train programme, which was used by Virgin Trains East Coast for a PR event to name the Class 800 series (an evolution in the name of the SET by Hitachi which had power cars rather than underfloor power packs) trains delivered from Hitachi to Agility Trains East Ltd as the 'Azuma'. If you study the vinyls, you shall note they appear to be a red curtain reveling the Azuma. This is purely a PR livery and the livery to he held on the 'Azumi' shall be reveled shortly before delivery in 2018. (again vinyl likely but the IEP agreements do allow franchise holders to paint the trains if then returned to the base grey on completion of the franchise).

800002 is T2, one of 12 pre-series / 'Test Trains' to be manufactured in Kasado works in Japan. I wonder does anyone hold a copy of the delivery and details list of the 12 test trains. I have mis-placed mine. I know some plans have evolved.

The livery on T2 is referred to as 'Hitachi Inspire the Next' and was done to celebrate the official opening of the Rail Innovation and Development Centre in Newton Aycliffe on 3rd Sept 2015. This forms Hornby's limited edition and I hope hope hope they shall release the three additional coaches.

Ironically, 800004 'GWR' livery is also for a PR event - the 'first' passenger run on the 30th June 2016 to celebrate 175th anniversary of the GWR. Though it is likely all IEP Class 800 series trains for Agility West Ltd and operated by GWR (who now seem to call them IETs in First Group PR) shall wear vinyl wraps similar to those on 800004. But all Class 802s for Eversholt and operated by GWR shall be painted (thus making the livery subtlety different - especially around doors and cctv).

  7. Uh they are on the roof just like a Voyager!

I look forward to pulling alongside an IET in my 143 to evacuate its passengers when the salt 'spray' has upset its computer.

TBH its a simple fix, just install a dynamic brake isolation switch, operate it between Exeter and Newton Abbot and it should have dried out by then, or is that a it too simple?

Hmm appears you are not familiar with the Intercity Express Programme Train Technical Specification.

I do not blame anyone for not reading the full 86 pages to which Hitachi must design their Class 800 series trains to, but if you did, you would be assured everything is covered to the last detail.

    https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/...data/.../tts-redacted.pdf

    TS1983 states:

Full Functionality of the IEP Trains must be maintained during and after exposure to salt water spray and such exposure must not cause excessive cosmetic degradation of exposed surfaces, components and equipment.

There are a few errors on the Hornby product pages too, I have emailed them a proofed document for them to consider suggested adjustments.

Special Edition now sold out on Hornby direct pre-orders

This is good news. I was concerned to see the limited edition had been released to the retailers when I pre-ordered at Warley on the Hornby site at full RRP. Good that it has now been ordered up to 250 units and away from the box shifters reducing the value of an limited edition! Hopefully not to many speculators have pre-ordered them! I shall be running mine and hoping Hornby shall follow with the three coaches.

I am told the pack shall contain special information to mark the programme?

  8. I found myself recently reading about the Brecknell Willis High Speed Pantograph myself of recent with regard to the Hitachi 800 series (and Class 387 after club discussion a few months ago). But naturally the Class 87, namely 87005 is mentioned in the test programme as "a second pantograph was fitted to 87005 in March 1982 for further tests on the WCML"

  9. That is rather nice, however, the mode will only represent 800004 up to last week when the new style fuel tanks were fitted which now extend out inline with the skirts.

Interesting. The fuel tanks are 3/5ths along the underframe and housed inside the skirting. Would you instead mean the toilet tank found at one end of car? Would be interested to see a photo as I would agree, the end toilet tanks to seem to extrude outward from the rest of the central skirting.

Hoping someone can clear this for me, aren't the GWR Hitachi IEP Class 800's meant to be 5-car sets? And by 5-car sets I assume they mean 5 vehicles in total (2 power cars + 3 coaches). However the Hornby website shows the train pack with 2 power cars and 5 coaches, isn't that a 7-car set? Or have I made a thorough mess of all this?

I have put a list at the base of this posting which answers what the 800 series for IEP and ROSCO 802s shall look like once delivered.

    As for coach formations:

5 car 800 series: Driving cab Pantograph Trailer Standard car (DPTS) - 2 x Motor Standard car’s (MS) - a Motor Composite car (MC) - Driving cab Pantograph Trailer First car (DPTF).

    9 car 800 series: DPTS - 2 x MS - a Trailer Standard (TS with inner frame bogies) - MS - TS - MC - a Motor First (MF) - DPTF.

5 car 801 series: DPTS - MS - Motor electric only Standard (MeS) - a Motor electric only Composite car (MeC) - DPTF.

    9 car 801 series: DPTS - MS - MeS - TS - MeS - TS - MeC - MeF - DPTF.

Please note on 801 series, the MS is technically a MeS but holds a PowerPack for contingency. I think the tech term is MeS-1 and the straight electric motor coaches are MeS-2.

Is Hornby likely to issue a 9-coach set in the foreseeable future?

I asked, I was told they have the CADs to do so and would be aware of the changes to bogies for the two TS with inner frames. I would certainly like a 9 car as these shall be more dominating on the ECML.

    -----

Also, I did put this over on the 800 discussion in June/July. But it might be rather useful to modellers in the Hornby Class 800 thread:

    Edinburgh, Glasgow

Total VTEC Class 800 series: 65

    IEP: 22 x 5 car and 43 x 9 car

There is also (First) Transpennine Express 5 car Hitachi 'AT300 series' for Angel Trains (All Bi-Mode):

Unit numbers not announced. Expected 802 series. 802301-8023019

    and

(First) Hull Trains 5 car Hitachi 'AT300 series' for Angel Trains (All Bi-Mode):

Unit numbers not announced. Expected 802 series. Platform design based on either 800 series or AT300 design. PR would suggest the former.

    London - Hull

  10. I whole respect your decision to hold off announcing them in OO, but you are fully trusted as an outfit, you have the superb Rapido as your manufacturing partner who have already delivered other UK OO models. I very much hope once the TEAs are delivered, the HOAs shall be announced. My expression of interest for OO gauge are: 6 x Tarmac, 6 x MRL and 1 x each of the other three. Would be wonderful to run with the upcoming Dapol 59s and of course the range of available Bachmann 66s.

  11. Might I ask, why have you not 'ventured your opinion' on the Dapol Digest? Such comments I feel would be highly beneficial for Dapol to hear and reply to. Currently they are requesting further information from customers to improve this model superbly: https://digest.Dapol.co.uk/forum/main-forum/class-121-122-aa/project-managers-blog/3455-decorated-samples-class-122?p=3728#post3728

I have followed comments on products written for a few years and feel, beyond doubt, that the Digest is the answer to the years of concern for detail errors in tooling and livery application. Finally the RMWeb post not satisfied with a Dapol model in development, can now directly communicated with Dapol to help deliver exactly a level of detail to which the customer is satisfied with.

Expressing concern on here is valid for a discussion, long as it is relayed onto the Digest to importantly have a particular concern addressed. Without, posts on here shall continue to express disappointment rather than positive and welcoming discussion.

I hold no knowledge of older BR liveries, but when livery samples of either Chiltern, SWT or Network Rail are shown (perhaps the latter two in later batches) I shall be making comment as a customer directly on the Digest where it shall be noted and addressed.

But given there might be a chance to correct any errors at this stage before they are carried into production we should feel free to venture our opinions.

  12. I hope 'unusual mk3s' refer to the Chiltern Mk3s with plug doors!

We will also have the GWR and ScotRail coaches with the sliding doors, the first 2 have already gone for conversion, TGS 44055 and TS 42168 from set LA 62.

CrossCountry Mk3's 42370 & 42036 are also at Wabtec Doncaster for work.

I really hope Oxford's shall tool both door types, I have lobbied them on this since first announced and no doubt others requesting them directly with OR would hopefully secure their tooling.

Note the Chiltern loco-haul Mk3 doors were manufactured by Rail Door Solutions, whereas the HST Mk3 doors for Scotrail, GWR and CrossCountry (thus far) are 'in-house' by Vapor Stone Rail Systems. The former being plug and the latter being sliding.

  13. Yes it will, with a running sample. Release dates are Late Spring 2017

Excellent, ticket bought and train tickets booked. Hopefully it shall be something I want! If not, a delight to see Realtrack's precision detailing pushing new bounds for a multiple unit.

  14. 37099 in its current colas/BR blue guise would be nice

    (my god i've just wishlisted!)

I contacted Kernow last week to suggest this as a superb limited edition, in a twin pack with 37057. The addition of headlights on both 057/099 and syp on 057 would be most welcomed locomotive(s). If more customers ask, then they might actually commission it for arrival with the main production run of split headcode's in Feb/Mar 2017?!

  15. Sadly when you get quoted $170,000.00 US Dollars for a project when the Dollar/Pound is $1.53 per £1.00 Stirling and today its is $1.22 per £1.00.  Which ever way your calculator is powered (Shale Gas Excluded)  ITS 20% DEARER!

    Charlie

Oh well...such is economics. I shall still buy the DMU if it is what I want.

Is the announcement on track for Warley NEC? I think I would only go to the NEC in November if there was the new DMU to see.

  16. No sign of mine as yet... Pre-ordered beginning of July and paid via PayPal. I've had no contact from LTM regards my order as of yet. I'm sure I'll hear soon.

    Locos look brilliant though.

It has always been reported that those who orders at Warley on the day of the announcement would be first to receive the models.

  17. At least one 09 received all over NSE blue but none in full livery.  Two 08's did though, Ivor and the Cambridge one.

actually 08631 was Eagle CURC (in small letters at the bottom of the plate). Named after the Cambridge Univeristy Railway Club.

A few cambridge allocated 08s went on to carry the plates.

As a former President of the Cambridge University Railway Club (Est. 1911) I can confirm 08631 ‘Eagle C.U.R.C’ was named by Chris Green on 2nd May 1988 at Cambridge, the naming event twined the locomotive and the club by taking the name after our club journal, the ‘Eagle’. The journal itself is named after the only ever built steam tender ‘Eagle’ in Cambridge by Hedley Ironworks of Market Hill.

Still a very active club, now as the second oldest railway club in the world, with current Cambridge University students, life (gradstands) and 'town' (non-university members) members.

  18. Just a shame one is already on eBay for £399 whilst you can get one at Locomotion...

Well I am hugely impressed. I reported the find on eBay to Locomotion and within a day (or two) the listing had terminated. That shows to me, quite simply, Locomotion offer the best customer care/service out there.

To profit of a charity is morally indefensible and I am pleased to see the listing terminated.

  19. There are a few reasons why I have not bought one, which I am sure might apply to a number of people who could of been tempted.

Firstly, I do not see the coaches Bachmann are offering on most WCR trains. If they were offering Mk1 and Mk2a coaches in WCR livery, I would of bought the loco. But without any assurances these coaches shall be made, I do not see what else the 37 could do. It is not like it is 37668/669 to go off and run on ERTMS/ETCS as a novelty (I am not willing to take the gamble of ordering it, hoping the coaches shall be produced into the future - at least with the DRS 37s you can be sure the Mk2fs shall be forthcoming)

Secondly, they nearly always run in top and tail with another 37 or a 47. (Yes I know Model Rail released a 37 some years back, but often sells for over £250 when on eBay!) (I was seriously tempted and would of bought the Locomotion Flying Scotsman to make up a 'heritage charter' rake - but alas - no WCR Mk1 or Mk2a)

Thirdly, it really is a standard/plane livery which doesn't really spark my imagination (especially when looking at other limited editions on the market currently). Yes if WCR was a standard release I would buy, but I feel limited editions - commanding rrp prices - need to be 'special'. Ironic is it not, if the loco was a standard release I would buy it, but as it is limited I am not finding it appealing.

Last, it is the principle of having to pay to join the club to which I have no interest in being a member.

If this was a Model Rail or Kernow etc limited edition I would of considered - but then the latter said on RMWeb that they thought there is just not a market for more WCR liveries (and it is very plane)

In sum, I would of bought if there were Mk1/Mk2a coaches to go with it, an additional 37/47 and I did not have to pay to become a member of something I am uninterested in. (No gripe, but interesting is it not that Bachmann focus on a closed club where as Hornby and Dapol have their Engine Shed and Digest....)
