  1. I haven't seen one of the new connectors in the flesh yet but I presume one problem is that the new connectors are probably making 8 contacts as opposed to the old plug and socket only making 4. The plug/socket needed to transfer 2 power and 2 motor contacts, the new gizmo has to do the same plus the directional lights and the firebox glow.

  2. If it came with a rotary switch with 3 wires coming from it they mate up to the same 3 out of 5 wires from the turntable, the other 2 wires go to a 16vac transformer. Hold the switch either left or right to operate it, when you release the switch the t/t will stop at the next outlet. The switch can be pulled down to lock in postion, press up to release. The t/t does not reverse polarity, you will need either a switch or reverser.

R30224 showing as arriving soon at Rails

This makes the current 20 year old 8F offering with a 30 year old smokebox door, at approximately £40 higher price, seem even more ridiculous.

I've got an 100% off FV fees and free listings until 22nd April.  I've not sold anything for almost a year.

Need to get my O Gauge stuff listed

I got one of those last month, but it lasted for 2 months. Previously I had the 80% off every 2 weeks, which I prefer as I relist everything that doesn't sell in the month. I hope they go back to them after my 2 months is up.

  5. This is a link to a Heljan turntable that had gone faulty, as they usually do. I fitted a decoder so that I could control it like a loco, and reworked the ring contacts/wiring so it didn't reverse polarity and cut out the sound half way round. A dual frog polarity reverser sorted that out. Please excuse the poor quality video, I'm no David Lean and It is a cheap crappy camera; and if the steam sound hiss is too overbearing just mute the sound (it starts muted, you have to switch the sound on). There is a bit in the video where I show how slow you can turn it for lining up the tracks, which you can do on 12v DC with a transformer as I said in my previous post if you aren't going digital.

  6. When you wire the motor, don't just use an on/off switch, use an old cheap controller or put a change-over switch between the layout and turntable motor using your existing controller: that way you can make it go as fast or as slow as you want, and you can change direction.

i received my dongle yesterday and on the first setup worked wonderfully with my select.

I added it to App, added a new loco (set to default 3 address), added the loco to the dongle decoder (that's how its presented) and i controlled the loco, happy days. now the issues start,

I first re-programmed the decoder to a 4 number address (using my gaugemaster dcc controller), i changed the loco address in the engine shed to match, put the loco on the track and nothing happened.  my first assumption was the select only uses 2 digit address's, so i reset the decoder address to 70 via the select. Changed the loco address in the engine shed, the loco still would not respond.

at this point i powered off everything, disconnected the dongle, re-started the select and tried to just control the loco via the select, the loco would not respond, put the loco on my gaugemaster system and it worked.

i tried this with a couple of loco's and got the same outcome, i'm now really confused as to why

1: the dongle now appears not to be working

2: why the select no longer seems able to control the loco's

I can see the select does something when i reset the decoder address as the lights flash on the loco.

Have you got the app set to bluetooth or dcc?

I've been to Rails this afternoon as they're having a Hornby event with a couple of Hornby people there, and I wanted to pick someone's brains about a small niggle with a HM7000 decoder. Both Hornby people are now aware (they weren't) about the smokebox door and will be conversing with the relevant department when they return. As luck would have it, Rails have both new examples in a cabinet (both have old moulded door), and in another second hand cabinet they have a previous modern release 8F with and older example 8F side by side, so both could be compared. Both chappies were at a loss to know why the old door has migrated on to the new model.  I also pointed out Hornby's promotional stuff show it should have the newer door.

Further to the above I had email conversations with one of the Hornby people, and he was very helpful regarding my HM7000 query, if fact he went well above and beyond what I was expecting from him. On the smokebox door query this is what he sent on 23/02.24:-

"Regarding the smoke box door, please allow me to ask the Development Manager.

I’m guessing your query is regarding if this is new tooling of the 8F smoke box door?"

And this is what I received from him an hour ago:-

"The Hornby Development Manager has mentioned that ‘unfortunately this was the only tooling available for the smokebox door at the time of asking’.

Sorry XXXX, I apologise but I personally cannot comment any further on this."

Make of the above what you will.

    Blimey, they must like you.

I'll admit that to know me is to love me, but instead of 100 listings at 80% off every 2 weeks I've only got 100 listings at 100% once over 8 weeks. As I usually have 80-90 listings I re-do them every 4 weeks before the old listings end, which I can't now do. The Lord giveth with one hand.......

  10. Last week my fortnightly 80% off was replaced with 100% off, but it lasts for 2 months.  Bit of a nuisance as I relist everything every 4 weeks, so I will only get the chance to do this once, then I will have to end my listings and hope the 80%'s start again.

The above page popped up whilst I was browsing the thread below just a few minutes ago.  I think this is the only time it's popped up whilst reading a thread - the other times were when I wasn't actively browsing.

i've had this twice in the last few days on my chromebook.

  13. According to a small piece in todays "Daily Bugle" the Visa Cash App Red Bull team will probably be known as the VCARB team; sounds better provided you can put it to the back of your mind what it actually stands for.
