  1. I don't know if it's been mentioned on here, but John Thaw's daughter's character is Dorothea Frazil. Frazil is a form of ice, therefore:-

    D. Frazil = De-ice = Thaw.

A magic touch from the writer.

So, looking at the video, for those running lenz, Hornby or ECoS systems, that £30 dongle is -by far- the cheapest way of getting wireless control for an existing layout.

Depends on the app in its final form of course, but that is pretty impressive.

Not so. I have an ECoS, and have 2 separate free apps on my Android phone and tablet:- ECoS Controller and RtDrive ECoS. Didn't have to spend a penny for wireless control.

It must be a trick of the light, but the undecorated sample looks small compared to the A4 above/behind it?

Its not the TT120 version is it?

Probably perspective as both models' tops appears to line up with the clear plastic stand angleing back to the horizontal.

I've bought a second hand Terrier which has a dodgy DCC chip (vendor did say!). Initially I want to run it as an DC analogue loco. I'm guessing I need a blanking plug but these 18 pin sockets are new to me and they also look very small so cobbling one up myself - as I do with 8 pin chips - seems out of the question. No-one seems to sell these blanking plugs though. Any ideas?

I will ask on Dapol forum as well

It might be easier to unsolder the PCB and just solder the 2 feed wires to the 2 motor wires. You can always put the PCB back later if anyone starts selling the blanking plugs.

  5. Mostly the outer pins on the plug/socket correspond with the same side to the wheels, the inner 2 to the motor, but Hornby can swap them round seemingly on a whim. Bachmann tend to be better, but I found their standard compound wired this way as normal, but the NRM compound wired the opposite way (left wheels to right pin).

Thanks for getting back to me.

If you look at my photographs the component layout is totally different from schematic diagram and as you will see some of the components are a cream colour.

Your second photo is the same as the diagram marked rev 41.

  7. Hello.

I have some TTS decoders, but I'm not sure which locos they are for. They have 4 different numbers written on the black round bit. The numbers are:- 10, 17, 28, & 34. I've looked on eBay at what is for sale and has been sold, and I think no. 10 is an A1/A3, no. 17 is an A4, but I haven't seen examples of nos. 28 and 34.

  8. Is the bogie  too free, ie , is the T piece of the bogie that you push through a slot in the chassis and turn 90 degrees being sloppy enough to partially fall into the slot on one side as it goes through a curve. If so you can try a bit of black insulation tape down each side of the slot to slightly narrow the gap.

  9. You can either adapt your existing split chassis with a 4-pin plug and socket available on eBay and do all the wiring in the tender, (I did a Royal Scot), or change the chassis for a new one. I've done this with all my Royal Scots and Jubilees, both need a plasticard build up at the front and back to provide a screw mounting for the body, the Jubilees also need filing down inside to allow the wheels nearest the cab to clear.

    Wanted

A Hornby Ruston 48DS, hopefully some has one that is no longer wanted but I need one and can afford around £65 plus postage. Any livery, not fussy, it doesn’t matter.

Thanks, send a PM for an immediate respond

Tennant's Trains have got one for £68, if you spend another £7 it comes post free.

Also I get that Mods are connected to the magazines, manufacturers and advertising revenue, but it's never a good idea to try to attack consumers or be rude to them online when they comment on products or prices. If in my business people were constantly complaining about prices on public forums I would take notice and see what could be done to mitigate their concerns or offer better value. I certainly wouldn't have a go at them because I know they wouldn't come back

    Well said that chap.
