  1. I ordered 1 of these, and a Precedent, as soon as they were announced. I paid a deposit by PayPal, and marked both to collect in store. I haven't heard anything yet, do you think I will get a notification to collect them, or should I just turn up as they have been sending them out, even if only ordered a day ago, as above?

  2. What just happened? A lot of posts seem to have disappeared whilst I was posting the above.

    Edit

It's alright, it's just me going senile. My reply made it jump from the page I was on to another page, it doesn't take much these days to confuse me, just getting old.

I also talk to myself a lot.

    In theory, yes.

I have 4 Duchesses factory-fitted with Loksounds & the early ones had only about 6-8 different sounds on them. I have tried looking for a re-blow, but all I found in the way of Princesses/Coronations were for Zimo.

I found the sounds themselves are ok & after a reset, the coasting is actually there, so I must admit that I gave up quite easily.

I think Olivia's and Howes still re-blow 3.5's, they will still have Duchess's, but like you I have a Lot of Duchess's and Princess's original Hornby sounds, and they're good enough for me.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but typically I can find no refence to it now. Please could someone tell me the best way to 'bypass' the loco to tender connection on this Hornby D16 chassis, basically so the loco will run without the tender?

This is for DC operation only. I feel certain I read the method recently, but then wonder if that was a DCC related project?

    My thanks in advance.

If you want to test the chassis as is, straighten a small staple out and see if the end will push into the plug, if it will bend the staple in half and push it into holes 1 and 2, repeat with another staple linking holes 3 & 4. Make sure they don't touch each other. Your loco should now run. If you're happy with this and want to do the job as you envisaged, remove the sticky tape between the wheels in your picture, the 2 wires there are from the motor, cut them there and pull the ends connected to the plug out of the hole. The 2 wires left still connected to the plug are from the wheels, cut them so you can shove them up through the hole and connect one to each motor wire. Swap them over if it runs backwards.

    Change of identity?

Nope, can't remember whether it was standard Bachmann issue, or a retailers commission. I might have changed the tender as most Bachmann models came with the small tender, but by late 30s nearly all had larger ones (swapped with jubilees). I also got pigged off with Bachmann's shelving of the new models, so changed the chassis’ on all my 8 red ones.

Oh yes, the Compound. :( I’m beginning to get over my indignation at the cancellation/suspension of Bachmann’s Parallel Scot. If the wraps are dropped and one appears, I’ll want one! In case Bachmann is reading this, here’s a reminder: 6130 The West Yorkshire Regiment. :offtopic: Sorry.

  7. If you are using DCC the easiest way is to use a double pole polarity reverser, about £25 - £30, 2 wires in from the track, 2 wires out to the deck rails, and it does the job for you. I have used 2 different makes, they are brill, but I forget the makers names. A DCC shop will advise you.

  8. The black plastic bit that the pins go into will slide up and down, and can be removed if required to get at the pins which are soldered onto the board. The plastic bit on the decoder doesn't look as if it is pushed all the way down to the board, which will lengthen the pins.

  9. Apart from waiting for 2-3 days to see the money in my account, I've made more from the 80% of fees offer I received than I did from my previous £1 + PayPal offers. Thumbs up so far from me.

(The only downside, I liked to have my PayPal account as a separate "modelling account", rather than everything appearing together through my bank).

  10. I've had a £3 offer a few times before. 2 weeks ago I had the 80% offer under the new "managed payments" system, which generally works out better than the £1 + paypal fees. The £3 offer with no paypal fees  works out better than £1 + paypal if you are selling items valued £60 upwards, and cheaper than the 80% offer for items £100 upwards.

Thanks Butler. I did have one from Hattons preowned which I thought I had "won" but for various reasons I was not lucky enough to get it! ... I will continue to watch and at some time I will secure one!!!
