    EBay madness

But are they available from the current producer at the moment?? I know they are listed on his website, but judging from posts on RMWeb the availability of a lot of things he lists seems in doubt?

I think you're absolutely right about steam age embankments etc in the steam age (although I am too young to remember it properly - I have just one memory of seeing steam when it would have been in use, so would have been around 1967-8) - photos bear this out. I also read somewhere about railways being responsible for spreading the seeds of Rosebay Willow Herb - how many models include this?

When did crop circles start appearing? - would they be out of period on a steam era model?
  12. That looks great! And what a brilliant idea to use the extra, thinner piece of foam.

Has anyone ever modelled a crop circle? I am guessing it would be achievable by using very long static GRASS then flattening it appropriately?

“If you never try a new thing, how can you tell what it's like? It's men such as you that hamper the world's progress. Think of the man who first tried German sausage!” Jerome K. Jerome, 'Three Men in a Boat' (1889) Interesting fact: Jerome K Jerome was born in Walsall, which is about ten minutes drive from...... ......wait for it....... The Palethorpes sausage factory in Tipton (see earlier posts)

'There he got out the luncheon-basket and packed a simple meal, in which, remembering the stranger's origin and preferences, he took care to include a yard of long French bread, a sausage out of which the garlic sang, some cheese which lay down and cried, and a long-necked straw-covered flask wherein lay bottled sunshine shed and garnered on far Southern slopes.' Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows
