  1. Thank you chaps, I will go with the consensus and put one in. No doubt once finished and exhibited someone will come up and say " never had a pit in that shed pal!" Cheer's, Pete.
  2. Hi I'm building a Great Eastern branch terminus, I am using photos for inspiration. Unfortunately there is not a great deal of detail in the pic's. So what I would like to know, would there be an inspection pit in the engine shed as a matter of course? there isn't an ash pit as far as I can see. Thank's in advance for any info' or insights. Cheer's, Pete.
  3. I don't recall any specific signalling at Staveley works, ( Stanton and Staveley. ) however I believe there were 3 aspect lights where the road crossed the rails. I have a photo showing this type of light, but it was taken right at the end of Staveleys operations and the works were being demolished, it may or may not be rail related. Pete.
  4. Hi Sam, just wanted to say it was good to have a chat and see Deffors in the flesh so to speak. Lots of potential there mate, well done! Pete.
  5. I used to work at the Coalite plant at Bolsover, 12 years until 2003. I did most of my modelling on nights and afternoons at the weekends! I can still smell it on my books and some models. I still live about a mile or so from the plant, it is just now being demolished and every time they disturb something or the wind is in the right (or wrong) direction it comes wafting over!! Pete.
  6. I had a play around doing setts for a friend whos building in7mm using the foam base that comes with supermarket pizzas. I think the top one looks better, it was done by scribing gently with a pencil. The second one I did by pressing in with a screwdriver, way to deep. Cheer's, Pete.
  7. I started work on the building some weeks ago and decided to go the spraymount route, I wish now I hadn't its been a pain it the %^&, I won't bore you with the details but I stuck (pun intended) with it and am now at the point where it is almost finished, but truth be told I will never ever use the corrugated card/paper again. Here's a photo of the building as it is now. Cheer's, Pete.
  8. If you pm me an email address I will send a copy of this drawing. Pete.
  9. When I scratch built my Andrew Barclay in 7mm scale, try as I might, I could not hide the motor, the rear axle is in an awkward place for motor and gear fitting, fortunately by fitting 4 sand boxes and pipe work etc, I was able to draw the eye away. Despite being 7mm, there isn't as much space as you would think, so 4mm must be a proper squeeze. Cheer's, Pete.
  10. Interesting project Ruston, am I correct in thinking that the method of milling the parts involves a pantograph doodad? If so could it be configured to produce parts to bigger scales using the same patterns? I would be interested in buying a set of parts if you were inclined to make an extra set in 7mm scale. Cheer's, Pete.
  11. Hi Alex, a layout based on a preserved railway makes a good project, there is lots of information and video out there, plus you can run whatever takes your fancy. Good luck, and I will watch with interest. Peter.
  12. I'm after a little advice regarding a large industrial building in 7mm for my layout. I have built the shell of the building in 3 and 4mm ply and I have clad it in corrugated card. The first few pieces I glued with PVA, and they seem ok, however a larger piece I glued to the ply separated layers of card, I suspect it was the pva causing it to delaminate. I replaced that part and fixed it with Pritt Stick. The next layers were fixed in place with Spray Mount, now the instructions on the can say there is 20 to 30 seconds of adjustment which is fine but it appears it doesn't want to permanently stick the card in place. Has anyone used spray mount? is it a permanent fix? Has any one got any ideas? I don't want to strip it all off again, but I also don't want it to peel off. If I do have to start again, doe's anyone have any tips for fixing the card permanently? Thanks in advance. Cheer's, Pete.
  13. Just found and read this topic, and I must say it ticks all the boxes for me! Ticked to follow to see what you do next. Cheer's, Pete.
  14. I've been away for a couple a three weeks and when I get back you've done more than I've achieved in the best part of a year, wow! well done! Pete.
  15. The back scene is stunning, would it be possible to buy a copy? Cheer's, Pete.
  16. I will (hopefully) be there, is the railway wheelchair friendly? I will be bringing our lass, she has some mobility but needs her chair to get any distance. Pete.
  17. I know you aren't happy with the thought of working with etched brass, but (I think) Brass Masters make a chassis kit for the Caley Pug, Phil Parker from BRM built one for a project he did for the magazine, it would make the icing on the cake for your loco! Pete.
  18. I have found some half round ABS plastic channel from a company in the US http://kitkraft.com if that is any use. Pete.
  19. Found it, number 252 January ish'. Pete.
  20. There is an article in MRJ describing how the author went about just this conversion, it was in one of the latest issues, if I can find it, (I am very untidy) I will let you know the issue number. Pete.
  21. Great layout design Felix, I will follow your exploits with interest!, just out of curiosity, where did you get your resin boats? Cheer's, Pete.
  22. until

Highly recommended, I have been to the last two shows and thoroughly enjoyed them! Cheers, Pete.
  23. It doesn,t look to have worked, I will see if I can get a link. Pete.
  24. Hi I know its probably a bit late, but I have just found and read your thread and I was looking at how you made a stone wall and it set me off thinking, I have bought some textured brick in 7mm scale off ebay, it is really good, so I went back and found this on the same site, ebay stone.htm I hope this works, it is 1/24th scale, but may be of interest. Cheers, Pete.
