  1. The van looks like an Austin K8. Sorry if someone has already replied.
  2. https://www.petersspares.com/ worth a try
  3. or Juliet Mills as Midshipman in Carry On Jack?
  4. Stanley Junction, where the Highland Railway left the Caledonian main line. HR southbound trains used the westernmost platform. Also, the whole of the London & Greenwich line was right hand running for many years until the first decade of the 20th Century due to operating issues at London Bridge.
  5. Some stations with bi-directional platforms and crossovers in the middle would have trains passing on the wrong side long before modern signalling. Cambridge is an obvious example.
  6. It happens on the Robin Hood line sometimes at Bestwood when trains are running late
  7. SWMBO found her husband wildly waving a fly swatter in the kitchen. "What on earth do you think your doing?" she demanded. "Killing flies" he said. "Oh! Get any did you?" " Yes, 3 females and 2 males " "Oh, come on! How can you possibly tell them apart?" " Two were on a beer can and three were on the phone "
  8. Depending on the layout of course, but I find fiddle yard duties are often grossly undervalued. A good fiddle yard operator can often make a huge difference to the smooth running of a layout. The fiddle yard is often the 'choking point' on many layouts so it must be well organised and well run.
  9. No I am talking about when the GNR line from Annesley to Shirebrook was opened c1900. There was a curve, traces of which still exist today, north to west joining the GCCR just east of Kirkby Bentinck station
  10. In the same area, the GNR curve from Kirkby North Junction (just east of Kirkby Bentinck GCR station) to East Kirkby Junction (more or less where the Robin Hood line Kirkby station now is) was only open for a very short period, but 2 signal boxes appear on maps of the period.
  11. I am guessing that Ffestiniog and Talyllyn stock is at least partly original, in which case it has been running for a very long time - though maybe not quite continuously?
  12. Until the line through Cheadle Heath was fully opened in 1902, the Midland access to Manchester was still relatively slow and circuitous, despite the construction of the Hope Valley line.
  13. The original Glasgow Underground stock was long-lived 1896–1977
  14. In South America I remember riding in a dining car, a sleeping car and a Sentinel railcar all built in the 1930s and still in revenue earning service in the 1990s. The Sentinel had been repowered as a diesel but was otherwise pretty original. It has since been heavily refurbished, I believe, and is still in service today.
  15. Very nice model. In answer to #3, see The Derwent Valley Light Railway http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derwent_Valley_Light_Railway
  16. Is there not a danger that al-Kader forces will try to hijack or sink the ship?
  17. I was born a first child. Everyone thinks I am completely odd. My sister was born second. Ever since her birth, I have been trying to get even with her. Somehow I don't think I will ever succeed. EDIT Sorry, gentlemen - this is a very dry joke - not a search for sympathy
  18. What do you get when you cross a model railway enthusiast with a hooker? Close couplings.
  19. That looks great. When you consider the cost of the Bachmann buildings, 125 Euros doesn't sound too bad, to be honest, especially for something as large as this.
  20. Two nerds meet up for lunch. Nerd number one immediately pulls the latest, brand new 4G phone from his pocket and hooks up to the Internet. "Cool phone" says nerd number 2. "How did you manage to get hold of one of those?" Nerd number one replies... "I was strolling through the woods on my way here, when a beautiful girl walked up to me. She put her handbag down, took off all her clothes and lay on the grass, saying "I really like you, have whatever you want!" I saw this phone sticking out of her bag, so I just took it!" "Great choice!", says nerd number 2. "I bet her clothes would not have fitted you"
  21. Headline on The Independent's news website today Russia to build up to eight new nuclear rectors in Iran That should go down really well with the Ayatollahs!
  22. HSTs don't have buffers between the coaches. It will be prototypically close coupled stock with buffers that are most affected by tight curves
  23. The My Mental Age Test Your mental age is 10 Feeling very embarrassed ....
  24. Is this the same design that was mass produced in WW1 and ended up on various other railways like the Metropolitan etc. ???
