There is a question of what degree you weather too. Some models seem more of a caricature than a reflection of real life. OK there was gross neglect of locos in the final days of BR but that wasn't necessarily representative of the rest of loco history. Some models I have seen look worse than ones stored in Barry scrapyard for many year, yet are apparently still capable of earning their crust on a model railway layout ;)

What I meant, but you explained it far more comprehensively than me. It seems to me to be the only solution - and a very simple one too! You will need to make sure that trains don't arrive and depart simultaneously on certain routes at the terminus though. Arriving and departing on the double track approach will be fine, but one departing on the double track and another arriving from the single line approach at the same time won't work. Easy enough to remember though. Not really a problem.

Instead of just the short link line, make the whole terminus one reversible section. No need to do anything to the outside loops.

Somercoates Class 31 down ballast approaching tunnel July 76 C2842 Could be wrong but I think the train is southbound. It has left the tunnel. A tunnel ventilation shaft can be seen on the hillside behind the train. -

I think the LNER considered using a half set of quad or quint arts to reopen the Blackwall branch in the early 1930s but it was abandoned due to clearance issues?

Did Johnson actually invent the system used on Midland Compounds? Sure I read somewhere that it was based on a compound design built for the NER? -
True. Not an expert by any means, but the Kitson 'look' dated back to at least 1882, as the first locos for the Taltal Railway had the same general cab shape (but with an open back, no doubt partly influenced by the climate on the Pacific coast of S America.

The LD&EC 0-4-4T was more a pure Kitson product. Had the characteristic swept back lower front edge to the cab, Kitson chimney etc.

Trust me, I do have a lot of experience of building pointwork in a variety of scales and gauges. I do remember however how challenging it was at first - even more so if you need to learn Templot too. I still see people starting for the first time with scratchbuilt track. The challeges should not be underestimated. Not just understanding track, but potentially soldering skills and other things that track purchasers can just take for granted.

If someone has never built pointwork before there is a steep learning curve. Surely you can't just expect them to jump straight into it and work at the same speed as you might do?

I wonder how much this was a Met design and how much a Hawthorn Leslie design? Could make a great generic loco for fictitious railways too?

Possibly the bridge was built and paid for by the local authority. Like anything paid for by someone else, the railway would likely have demanded something far more generous than if they had paid for it themselves, 'just in case' it was needed in the future. There are examples of this elsewhere - either where the local authority or another railway company footed the bill.

1953 built, to 3ft 6in gauge. There are other photos on the web, just search 'Emu Bay Railway'. It had a few mods over time including extra windows in the cab rear, I think. The cab looks similar to one of your BR kits.

I'd guess the L&YR 0-4-4T https://www.rail-online.co.uk/p820151419/e18961e66 Might the left hand diesel in the background be the Emu Bay NB 0-8-0, or at least something similar?

Hi, could I please ask if the 3-275 Loco Driving Wheel Quartering Tool is gauge specific, or can it be used for narrower/wider gauges than 9.42mm? Probably a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. Many thanks.
