  1. Hi Steve Yes i have i worked a few blokes who told me the sleepers, mail trains ran that way after the Bridgend derailment so it's very highly likely there were Westerns somewhere. Also what about a Hymek over Crumlin viaduct,1963 a mate of mine who was a Signalman on the VON told me towards the end a Hymek with a Inspection saloon came up from the Neath direction no photo sorry. D1054 Western Governer took the Royal train to Merthyr with Queen after the Aberfan incident 1966. I have photo somewhere of a Hymek on a breakdown train at Ystrad Mymach in 1967.

  4. Hi Chaps Here's a shot of D9555 and BV at Glyncorrwg this colliery was the place where D9529 less than 6 months old fell over on it's side on the 15th June 1965,it took to cranes to right the loco which then spent some time in Swindon works being repaired. D9529 today is on the NVR and i'm told by its onwers it's still carries some of the scars of this derailment. The others 2 shots are of 55 again Lydney Town and approaching the Tuffs area. Cheers GARETH
  5. Hi Brian You could be right it's got a milk tank behind the Loco as well by the look's of it,i'm hoping my mate might come up with Loco number as well. Cheers GARETH
  6. I forgot to add it did also involve Glasgow crews sometimes and it was also another way that the Swindon DMU 'S built for the Scottish Region were also moved this way as well sometimes taking a DMU Ecs and working back with a 63xx or NBL Warship Cheers Gareth
  7. Yes I have, an old railwayman I know. Was in charge of all these deliveries from the NBL works and this is how it was done. Stafford Road men were trained on the 63xx and the NBL Warships also so were some Crewe drivers. They were delivered via the WCML via Crewe and onto Swindon via Stafford road , they always delivered them in batches sometimes the crews would travel by train to work them back but sometimes a light engine would run up to NBL works to pick up. After sometime of doing these deliveries I' m told that the Stafford Road men would work throughout and the Crewe men did'nt like it. Hope this. Helps Cheers Gareth

  11. Hi Brian Just came across your reply I may be able to give you some more info, back about 30 years ago i worked with a Rlf Signalman who worked the branch during the war. He told me as you have already said that these ambulance trains did go via Creigiau for Rhydlafar hospital and everyone was taken by road from there. He told me that the trains then ran empty to Treforest Jct to run round and back via Radyr to Cardiff or Newport docks. Cheers GARETH
