  1. Thanks Tony for your kind response...sadly misplaced conceit on my part in my choice of 46256....more in recognition of my favourite loco rather than my being held Iin the same esteem as the great man. In hindsight I should have chosen 46235...
  2. Welcome to my world....achievement followed by disaster....followed by....in your case I'm sure completion of these wonderful models....really enjoying your work
  3. Is the art of modelling, to see the potential .whether from a piece of metal, cheap plastic kit, or a rtr out of the box, to create ..a portrait of a particular locomotive...coach wagon or piece of line side furniture that invokes in us ...nostalgia...admiration...envy...dare I say pride if the model attracts said praise. I am pleased this thread has in my humble opinion achieved all of the above. I offer sincere apologies if my grammar is wanting...as per a famous comedy routine...all the right words ...not necessarily in the correct order . In any event, please more models ...modelling to inspire...
  4. On the subject of wartime...not long ago there was a programme about the railways in ww2 ....what unsung heroes the railway way staff were...footplate crew charging through the night not knowing if the tracks ahead were bombed...and for me the real heros..the signalmen who stayed in post during the thick of the air raids.....all to be rewarded by a grateful government after final victory........or not....
  5. heaps of broken wagons by the line side...you've seen my layout then...
  6. Speaking of webpages even Mr wrights goes of the modelling theme from time to time...a recent example how tomatoes grown on sewage beds were larger than other plants not having this nutrient source"......and nooooooooo I'm not starting this as a topic...like horsetan let our models do the talking...
  7. Dear all if not already done so tony wrights webspage has the latest dvd of his layout....as you would expect lots of eastern big stuff...but to my mind the best sequence is the freight reversed over umpteen crossovers...the only problem is I dont know whether it has inspired me or left me downcast with my own efforts...
  8. Thanks buhar for providing the link..I remember the response from fellow posters on seeing the work on the b12 chassis ..it inspired me to buy one.....donated the redundant body to my friend...still in my to do list...
  9. Dear all if you want to see some great modelling londontram and his conversion of a gbl t9 to a Caley dunlastair...sorry don't know how to show the webpage reference...however if you put in Steve Caledonian workbench making a 440....shoukd get you there....some of you have already visited..well worth the trip..
  10. sorry got to amend last post....looks blinking marvelous
  11. For the record the following finished...6240 city of Coventry last red streamliner....poignantly in real life at about the same time as the infamous Luftwaffe attack...Hornby China chassis....Lord Nelson Bachmann chassis...black fives high footplate Caprotti and Stephenson valve gear..comet chassis adapted...belpaire class 4 from compound...class 47 and class 52....Hornby and Lima chassis..the latter with diesel trains replacement motor. Bought but not worked on yet both std 260 and 264t...28xx...mallard...v2...albeit a replacement resin body
  12. Hi horsetan as per our pms really looking forward to seeing your work in this model.....and to any other modellers working on these please share your efforts. I have the following gbl projects on the go....a2/2 thane of Fife from v2 and a3...SE finecast chassis..Caley 123 with a triang Hornby chassis...need new keeper pick up plate and tender re wheeling....no work will be done on body..just a boyhood nostalgia trip.....t9 into Ben alder with Hornby b12 chassis converted to 440....royal scot awaiting Bachmann scot chassis repainted and renumbered...wasn't going to motorise. But cabbed the real thing at Kidderminster at weekend. Two princesses ...both with Mike edge chassis to make 46200 and 46205.....castle and king spares and chassis frames for os steam pipes and double chimneys...a2 might convert into a2/3.....comet chassis bought for my county with replacement 8f firebox....ivatt to 84xx...chassis already made up....all of these are in addition to a number of projects such as creating a class 103 emu....adding shawplan windows to a silver fox resin dp2...all were put back at the emergence of this series"..........phew...........and now a complete rewire of my layout.....beam me up Scotty....more than happy to show progress or not on these as it happens either here or on my friend rowanjs webpage based on these conversions
  13. Thank you Keith...what a duchess was born to do!
  14. Dear all if this thread has been anything...it surely has to have been.....fun..enjoyment...the speculation...anticipation...debate on what is or isn't a worthy candidate for the accolade of gbl..the conversion..improvement?.adaptation...in conclusion it's been a great journey and to all my fellow travellers......thank you
  15. gbl class47 new Hornby chassis...seems to be the railroad replacement for the Lima one.....excellent runner...weathered and earning its keep on a nor East sou west express...hoses to be added .....was going to renumber but at my modelled era circa 69 to 71 D1562 was a Tinsley engine. One of my favourite depots to bunk in my spotting days.i appreciate Crimson cream coaches out of place but then but was just testing the hauling abilities with one of my rakes...result great hauling capabilities.. Didn't study photo before posting the coaches mentioned are out of shot
  16. Great modelling good to see not all the best model railways cover the east coast mainline
  17. I'm presently travelling across the midlands to Ashby de la Zouch......
  18. I have just rung the main wh smiths here in the dudley area...at merry hill the very helpful man...and I mean that, as he has dealt with these enquiries from me a number of times now...anyway none today...he has contacted the wholesalers who state its will be sent out on 31 St August. He quite rightly spotted this is the bank holiday so he expects his copies to arrive Tuesday 1st. This situation obviously may not be the same in other parts of the country, but for what it's worth...
  19. John very nice really enjoyed...especially the scot amongst all the eastern stuff.....really nice Elizabethan coaches...will pm later best wishes brian
  20. none arrived at smiths merry dudley this morning
  21. Whilst we wait the late arrival thought might share latest work on my A2/2 and Lord Nelson. Firstly Wd060... Congratulations on your Gcse results... secondly really like the corridor connection on your carriages.. Onto my pictures the first shows the chassis of Thane of Fife...no show on my order of bespoke A2 wheels so have plodded on with my reduced rim Romfords. The chassis is the Finecast A2...cut and shut a bit like the original.....cylinders comet with my own brass sides. The motion is finecast and comet V2. High Level hi flier gearbox and big Mashima...smooth and powerful. The Nelson has had the boiler replaced along with pipe work and handrails...numbered after my favourite English buccaneer Sir Francis Drake...tender bulbous lump removed and real coal added....on Bachmann chassis..awaiting pennies to buy the loco...anyway hope you enjoy seeing these and they go some way in whiling away the hours until Wednesday just spotted the Nelson needs some new transfer lining on tender after a bit of clumsiness yesterday...no use being a twit unless you show it
  22. Hroth....may I suggest your excuse is you are the chief executive....mechanical engineer and main source of finance for your railway empire....its my excuse for some of my wonderful pairings of locos stock and eras....however the real railway threw up all sorts of interesting combinations...saw a photo recently of a brush 4 travelling north east towards Derby through my modelled location just east of Brum circa 1966....pulling a full set of southern Region green stock. I have renewed friendships recently with a group of friends who regularly spotted at this location. The locos that went through...lines of class 14s for example en route to their new homes in the north east....the problem I now have is purchasing these locos to try and achieve my aim of having one of each type that went through between 1950 and 75.....plus any number of guests like an a2/2....although did hear some eastern Pacifics were trialled for a short time on the north east south west line thru Brum including Gt Northern......ok complete nonsense...but on my railway in addition to above titles also operating manager......must go now to fulfil my main occupation domestic slave....chores the curse of the modelling classes
  23. Whilst on this subject ..having used modelmaster..ex kenco..ex Jackson Evans...mixed traffic lining...the red grey....am I missing the blinking obvious.....where are the curves usually found underneath the cab window or the lower tank side where the red and grey lining reverse....I have lost count of the times I have separated the two bands with a scalpel only to reunite them in the correct reversed way on these angles. On this request I have no problem in being enlightend....please be kind..
  24. Lining with a bowpem is an art unto itself.....I lined a.number of my then em gauge models...some twenty five years ago....most have since been sold on my revising back to OO. The couple I have left are still to my eyes comparable to my transferred locos....but ....now stating the blooming obvious...... This is a skill that requires practice.....and given the fact it has been ten years or more since my last attempt...the ever improvement of the rtr market.....building a loco accurately is one of our aims....the painting..lining ...and weathering...bequeaths on our creations the extra dimension that these machines impact on us....the skills of the painters can lift our models ...enough said
  25. You would have thought the Home Secretary would have bought a few back with her earlier, or better still got that lorry to the front of the queue....
