  1. have purchased chassis from Dave at se finecast for the gbl model...excellent gentleman and service...have doctored it though to represent the thompson a2/2 chassis
  2. Just checked at smiths merry hill, the very helpful man there...assisted in similar circs when Lord Nelson was late, has just told me the 47 is expected on 26th August...the next one 9th sept......
  3. none delivered to main smiffs at merry hill this morning...fear another delayed issue.....never mind such worries as trying to buy one from the shops will soon be over
  4. Just examining horsetans comparison pictures....it appears not an exact copy of the Bachmann...not least the minor skirt on boiler....yet not as pronounced as the other copy option. The trix....any views as to its origin?
  5. my a2/2 thane of Fife 60505....just to recap mostly GBL V2...a3. And a Hornby tornado tender backdated awaiting a trip to a coaling plant. The chassis is supplied by Se finecast...the Romford wheels are from my spares temporarily fitted to ensure squareness. They will be replaced when my new ones arrive...not least the wheel rims foul one another. In the instructions supplied by se finecast they recommend if using older romfords to shave the rim of the centre drivers or use flange less ones.....motion will be a mixture of comet v2 and she finecast a2.
  6. Can anyone help with info advice...I have just received a Lord Nelson tender bogie chassis. I have placed the GBL on top...the rear bogie seems to be fouling the rear tender steps on curves...is that a feature on the Bachmann version? I ask having never owned an example...look forward to any replies advice etc
  7. if I had waited a week or two and knowing the provenance of this moulding that is what I would have done. It would have saved a lot of effort, although not completely straightforward
  8. Just picked up my a2 from smiths Stourbridge...reserved from yesterday, I was on a northern railtour so unable to purchase on day of release. Two things...excellent service from my local smiths, and secondly what a great model. For less than a cup of coffee and sandwich on yesterday's tour!
  9. Another photo less reflection...
  10. The GBL sourced a2/2 thane of Fife now on St adapted chassis awaiting bespoke markits wheels...cylinders outer covers from brass...small smoke deflectors and safety vales to be added
  11. Dear all the brush 4 is on the GBL site...two tone green...can't tell its origins
  12. John back to front...not knowing whether coming or going...definitely an eastern region loco.........only joking my friend......of course here on the midland...always knew what direction we were travelling....backwards.....look forward to your reply
  13. A better shot of its more detailed tother side
  14. Further work on 60505 thane of Fife...its v2 cab origins can clearly be seen...the chassis is she finecast extended for the thompson loco..working out now the position of cylinders...the white areas are epoxy filler sanded down...the cab vents are plasticard
  15. There was an article in the railway modeller...some years ago now...the author ..think it was Larry Goddard...could be wrong but he altered the cab height on the then new mainline rebuilt patriots, similar to your model
  16. Sarah nicely done, if you want the missing motion bracket the nice man at 247 developments makes one...or certainly did ...
  17. cypherman won't give the advice asked for ref nitro moors and masking tape...I sure from previous correspondence there are others who can give this better than I. I want however to compliment you on the painting and in the case of the n2 lining out...welcome back to the hobby
  18. I have enjoyed this thread for any number of reasons...the initial anticipation of each new model...the speculation...the arrival....or not subject to availability....the photos and reviews....and yes I do miss the in depth ones of a former contributor. I have made a very good friend in rowanj and enjoyed correspondence with a number of others. I have been in awe of some of the modelling...been directed to other excellent blogs. The main thing I have ...and continue to have is fun. My razor saw has seen more action than Sweeney todds razor...and with similar effect on a number of unsuspecting GBL and Hornby bodies. I have shown my efforts, and if some have not quite hit the mark....well I'm glad to say my peers have been gracious in their comments or lack of them. I am currently working on an A2/2. I had intended to use the forthcoming A2... However for a variety of reasons....mostly impatience in wanting to get started...anyway a GBL v2.....Hornby a3....have so far been sacrificed...a se finecast a2 chassis is on order....what an excellent gentleman dave at that company is....anyway non corridor tender from e bay....the photo is from yesterday...lot of work earlier making the distinctive washout plugs on fire box....will show these and other work tomorrow...in conclusion...what I'm hoping to achieve is a passable layout loco from these excellent starting points...and a cure for insomnia....
  19. And lastly it's more photogenic right side...shows Hornby firebox better..
  20. And with the Nelson still a work in progress
  21. Back to the county now completed....well not quite, awaiting new comet chassis kit...presently on its GBL cast version....
  22. In reply to tenders my book of a1 and a2 pacifics by Peter Coster shows all the a2 class entering service with 8w non corridor tenders....whether individuals were partnered with other types after overhaul, can't say
  23. im pretty sure they had the motor in the body....gather from looking it up was?..is pretty powerful...as previously mentioned the body was available separately some years ago...long before Bachmann ...so was a reasonable way of producing one...of course with the superlative offerings of today....well it looks its vintage...late sixties if i recall. I have been examining the trix model in photos the cab...footplate seem well defined...my GBL v2 having been spared parting company with its boiler may now be called on to donate....we shall see...must finish other models...must finis
  24. Just compared to a photo of trix a2 even more sure....big motion link running from cylinder to middle driver....cartazzi truck separate ...had wanted this for the boiler.the skirt though makes it more trouble than it's worth...already battled with the Nelson replacement...no if using a model to produce an a2/2 will bite the financial bullet and purchase a Bachmann one...
  25. looks to me to be the trix A2...corridor tender....boiler skirt....
