  1. Hi Mike Have you thought about producing an LNER bogie in 4mm with a 10' wheelbase for the Coronation/Silver Jubilee sets. I don't believe that this has been done before ( apart from the Ian Kirk which is not available) Regards Norman Blackburn
  2. Hi Rob Lochgorm kits produced etched kits for Highland Locos coaches etc. Unfortunately after the death of the owner, Andy Copp, these are currently not available. I understand, from the Highland Railway Society, that the range will be re-introduced later this year under new ownership. Info on their web site lochgormkits.co.uk Norman

  5. Hi Gary Try A pictorial Record of British Railway Diesel Multiple Units by Brian Golding Cheona Publications Soft back photos and drawings of all classes. includes railcars and Blue pullman Norman
  6. My uinderstanding of roof colour for the LNER period was that they painted white lead which in the sulpurious atmosphere quickly changed to lead sulphide which is a dark grey colour. There is no point in comparing with white roofs on preserved stock as they are painted with modern paints. Indeed if you look at the book LNER locomotives in Colour 1936 - 1948 ( by Ron White of Colour Rail) there is only one photo of a white/light grey coach roof all the rest are dark grey/black. Norman
  7. Hi Clive How light would you say sherwood green could be?. As I recall Grass green or LNER apple green would be quiet close Norman
  8. The second shade used for the 2 tone green is usually Sherwood Green. I remember in the early 70s, when precision paints started, seeing a tin of their sherwood green. The opinion of myself and a few friends was that this shade was totaly wrong for the locos that we saw passing through Fife between Edinburgh and Aberdeen. I also remember a 47 on display at an Eastfield open day in the early 70s and the green that I recall was the same as used for the lower stripe on the Deltics. ( unfortunately I only have a black and white Photo which does indicate a large contrast between the two shades of green) I would assume that the shade of green that I saw on a daily basis was a weathered version of this light green Any Thoughts. 9. I think its another blast from the past with the Universal wheels: Mike Sharman? Norman
  10. I'm going back about 25-30 years ago the 00 EM and P4 were all different Norman
  11. Hi I've just read this thread and I believe that the original Alan Gibson used to produce a Universal wheel ( for 00) which was wider than the EM wheel that he then produced. The new Gibson wheels are the same for 00 or EM. This would explain the difference in tyre widths. Norman
  12. Yellow Labels are Phoenix Precision Paints. Norman
  13. Hi See link in post 26 in this thread. Mike Trice letter Monday Nov 25 2013 Norman
  14. HI all The lighter green was the same colour as used on the Deltics. Several Colour Rail slides that I have confirm this. The photo that I have in mind is of a Clayton being delivered, brand new: on page 14 of The Heyday of Scottish Diesels by David Cross ( one of the small Ian Allan albums) Many years ago I built a Dave Alexander Kit for a Clayton and painted it with the light green colour. I had lots of comments at shows basically saying that it was nice to see one painted the correct colour. Norman Blackburn
  15. I use the Ian Rice method and have never had any problems with it. I started using this method about 20 years ago. Mask of the gear box and spray the chassis, wheels, everything while under power. Then clean the tires with a glass fiber brush simple and it works Norman
  16. A friend has just completed Two 5inch gauge live steam 9Fs to a high standard and the cab was supported by large girders and brackets from the frames. BR drawing SL/BR/884 Cab Arrgt shows support girders and brackets below the cab. Norman
  17. A small observation: on semaphore signals the lens for showing clear was not green but BLUE. A blue filter plus the yellow flame fron the oil lamp gives the green light Norman
