  1. You get ten metres for the princely sum of about £7.
  2. We are still waiting on our (quite large) order being delivered, but I know how slow 3D printers are! Thanks for the photos and chat about these. As an aside we have found a source of supply for 0.4 square wire - https://www.wireandstuff.co.uk/products/0.4-x-0.4mm-Square-Wire---SS316L--Marine-Grade-Stainless-Steel-Wire----3-ohms-m-1290.html
  3. My memory might be playing tricks, but I seem to recall that Nucro was the name used for wagon wheels (and others?) which became Romford wheels.
  4. Can we have a Bargain Hunters - Birmingham thread so those of us who don't live there can ignore it!

    Mk1 Catering Cars

Thanks all for the information, Dia. 25 is produced as a kit by Southern Pride and Comet (now MSE) do sides for the Kitchen Car Dia. 700.
  6. What diagrams of catering cars have been produced by Bachmann or Hornby?
  7. As a slight aside although still to do with stuff that comes out of signal boxes, does anyone have a close up or dimensions of the posts for supporting signal wires, there are as many of them as there are point rodding stools! I have not been able to find any pictures close enough to see detail or even have an idea whether they are square or round or whatever!
  8. Has anyone any comments on the 3D printed parts for point rodding and, even better, any photos of these parts in use? our group is considering using them on our new layout, but before we spend a big sum on these we would like to know any comments.
  9. Back to railway modelling, how is the point rodding going? We are about to start thinking about this for our depiction of Larbert, and the questions are starting to be raised. Despite a fair bit of searching I can't find any detail about how far apart the rodding stools are on a run of rodding. One of the guys seemed to think it was about six to eight feet apart (24 t0 32mm) - were you able to find out this basic piece of info? Chas
  10. Tony, Regarding leaving off bits of kits which are either unseen or "get in the way", I have just started (another) DJH A1, kindly donated by my mate Dave, and I refreshed my memory a bit by re-watching your DVD on loco building. The A1 comes with etches for the spring detail behind the drivers but I noticed on the video that you omitted these from the A2 you built. I must confess that missing these off would certainly make the fixing of pickups etc much easier, so was this a deliberate omission? Chas
  11. Had the good (?) fortune to try out the 385's on Thursday last week, after a run on the 365's to Edinburgh. The new units are perfectly comfortable and smooth, but, aesthetically, are spoiled by the front end. The most annoying thing was, though, that for a scheduled 52 minute run we arrived back in Glasgow about 12 minutes late, enough to miss my bus home! Think I would rather have trains that ran on time than new units which don't! There was a sheet of paper in the coach which had a web link to ask for comments on the new express trains, you can imagine what my comments were!
  12. Tony, Think you may be partially correct re the Mk1 Kitchen car, from photos it would appear that door handles were fitted on the corridor side but possibly not on the kitchen side, although it is sometimes hard to tell from photos. Must confess I fitted handles because the holes were there for them! Glad you mentioned this re. the Thompson cars as I have the sides for an RF to do and probably would have blithely fitted handles to that too - will check more thoroughly on that one. Chas
  13. As requested! Comet sides on a donor coach with the necessary roof detail. Chas
  14. Finally seemed to have fixed it, there is an option in Tool, Internet Options, Advanced to reset all selections back to default including all personal setttings. While this seems a bit drastic, it was annoying me so much I just went and did it and Hey Presto everything seems back to normal. (I hope!)
  15. Well, I have tried to check my cookie settings but it appears that I have it already set to accept cookies from both first and third parties, so this has not solved the problem - I am getting increasingly irritated by this, having to sign in to RMWeb and other sites and also to Google to get youtube to work properly, all have different usernames and passwords and apart from the usual ones I can't remember them all! Why has this just started happening? Is it something to do with the daft GDPR things that have just come out? Have site altered their methods? Has my software been updated (or tampered with)?
  16. My computer no longer remembers me when I call up the site, so I have to log in every time even though the "remember me" box is ticked. This also happens with every other site that has the same system. It used to work fine but has only started to not work in the last few days. Thought it might have been a Windows update but there hasn't been one. Happens with Internet Explorer 11 and also Microsoft Edge. Anyone help, cos' it is a nuisance to have to log in every time and try to remember all the different passwords!
  17. Thanks to Wildcat Models in Glasgow for stocking the above!
  18. Tony, Have you found any problems with the rodding due to expansion in the extreme heat of the last while? Chas
  19. Sorry if this has been raised elsewhere, but a search did not reveal anything specific. So, what is the best way to thin Humbrol Railway Acrylics for airbrushing, and any other hints. Have always used enamels before but need the Humbrol RC405 (Green) to match the finish on Hornby Locos. Any thoughts will help.
  20. Don't know why I said Southern, maybe just meant in the South, bearing in mind my location - see my username!
  21. But the ALDI one comes with an airbrush, which looks extremely like a Badger!
  22. Just as a matter of interest, did GT3 ever travel outside the Southern and, if so, how far North did it ever get?
  23. Just one thing to watch with these strong magnets, although the small size of the ones you are using may not have this effect, if you have any locos with Gibson bogie wheels, the force of the magnet can attract the steel tyres and derail a bogie which is not sprung. When we have tried S&W couplings we found we needed a longer magnet under the track to ensure uncoupling and the strength of these caused the problem. Chas
  24. On the Fulgurex switches, I didn't realise they were now made in China. Peco do a similar switch, PL-32 Microswitch, open type, which looks the same as the original switches, but does anyone know if the mounting holes are compatible with Fulgurex? May be an answer to the problem. Chas
