With only 20cm width you are limited to 4 tracks, but you can get an extra 20cm siding length by changing the entrance points around to a double slip and 2 large y points. This means that only one train can enter or exit at a time, but is a space saver. You might gain a little more length using y points at the top end as well, but it wont be a lot.

The red box on your map is the Smithfield end of the station, the trains coming into the market would make a rather quick reversing move to enter the depot. Whitecross depot being the other end, trains could run directly in to that.

Tonight I'll dig out a link to a goldmine of info regarding white cross street, has some pics and history of the site.

The trains went through aldersgate station, then took a right turn into the depot. The loco's would have to be small tank loco's as they needed to cross wagon turntables inside the depot lower level.

Triang Hornby "Transfesa" Ferry Van
simon b replied to ianwales's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
These vans never wore this livery, though since the correct tranfesea van is not available I wouldn't worry about it. I've got a rake of seven that get dragged about by a 73 and they bring a bit of color to the layout. -

Just finished catching up with this thread, you've really captured the look of this corner of London. The latest pics have a wonderful atmosphere to them. The air raid siren is a nice touch, if anyone wants detailed pics of these I have one in my workshop. -
Kings Cross Loco Yard/Milk Dock closure

I haven't had much to do with the tillig items if I'm honest, the slip is the only one I have encountered. The slip I have is switched via the wire in a tube method using a sprung switch, simple but effective. -

Hi Phil. The tiling slip joins up to normal code 75 without a problem, there is a slight difference in rail height but it isnt that noticeable. The sleeper spacing is what gives the game away. I have got the complete track layout down and wired on a 6x2ft board with a view to building something that loosely represented the milk dock area in the mid 80's. It is quite fun to operate but is on the back burner whilst I complete some other projects. -

Lillie Bridge - A Micro Layout Project in 00
simon b replied to sem34090's topic in London Underground
Now this is going to be good, one of my fave place's to stop for a nose about when in London. Can I suggest that you build the layout with a possible extension in mind, the various bridges carrying the depot tracks and roads over the district line is a scene in itself. -
That looks great, I really should make progress with mine.

Wills SS78 platform shelter ideas

Thanks Dave, at the moment the canopy itself is just a shell, once I've added some lattice support beams from plastistrut I'll take a few pics. It's made from a pack of wills SSMP229 felt and batten sheets, with the valancing from the ratio canopy kit. There is more to add to it yet, so watch this space. -

Wills SS78 platform shelter ideas
simon b replied to simon b's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Had a bit of time today, so made some progress on this. The platform is now painted and weathered, and the subway is fitted in place. The buildings themselves have gained a base coat of white, and the canopy is in primer. I think it's taking shape nicely. I took these pics outside on the window ledge while the paint was drying off. -
Looks great, do you have any pics before the footbridge and canopy were removed? Also what's the size of this layout please? I'm guessing the scenic section to be around 6ft?

So I've been doing a little cut and shut job on these, this is the result of three kits combined into one building and one built as per the kit. I will add more details once I have put some paint on. I've also started a flat roof style of canopy to cover these and a subway entrance up from street level.- 16 replies

Many thanks for that, that is quite a useful website. Any pointers where I might find color details for the 80's period? -

Dose anyone know the colors these would have been painted in the late 60's - early 70's period? I'm guessing white wood rather than the grey plastic the kit is in. -

The Hobby shop have these kits on offer at the moment, so I've bought 3 more along with a peco subway and some wills parts. I think I'm going to keep the width as it is so it fits on the wills platforms I have, and just join a few wall sections into a longer structure. Will post up some pics of what I come up with. I did look at scratchbuilding but the cost of decent doors and windows rules this out, I did considor using the parkside/ratio lnwr sectional parts but they would look a little out of place for this model. I will try those on a later project though. -
I quite like the look of these being based on an LSWR timber structure but it is rather small and narrow, has anyone kit bashed a few of these into a larger structure? The bottom pic is platform 8 Clapham junction, and is the sort of size I was thinking of.
