  1. Thanks, infact I should of remembered Baker street as I have often thought what a great model it would make. Thi pic is the veiw from the top of those flats, 4ft x 2ft model anyone?
  2. Thanks for those Pete, that is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. As you say it's surprisingly difficult to find a picture of the underside of these things. Looking at the last pic in your post, I'm now thinking of bringing the building a few inches further over the platform ends. Hopefuuly that will create a dark under croft with just the colour light signals shining out. When I update the layout thread I'll show some pics of how this fits in.
  3. Now that is an interesting picture, worth modelling just in itself.
  4. Gent's thanks for the pointers. It's very helpful to have the name of a specific place to put into Google images, rather than just searching for concrete tunnels! Below is a mockup pic of where I want to build this tunnel on my layout. I'm using this as a scenic break so need to cover 3 tracks, and I want to put a supporting pier at the platform end to help hide trains exiting the layout: And the sort of building I want to build on it: I thought maybe something like this, but not sure if looks too new?:
  5. Hi all. On my widened lines layout I want to use a office block built over the tracks as the scenic break. I've allready got brick retaining walls on both sides of the cutting dating from around 1900, but I want the building to be built on a concrete raft over the tracks from the late 60's era. The old office building at Holborn viaduct station is the sort of building I had in mind. Does anyone have any pics of such a concrete support structure? Thanks.
  6. Hi Pete. Time has been short lately but I've got a few bits done, been messing about with the new Peco track on the other layout for the last few weeks too. The dmu depot now has a pair of inspection pits, and I've added a concrete base around them and the building itself. Also been slowly piecing together the buildings infront of the station. Pics will come soon.
  7. Your spot on. I've removed the end sleeper from the diverging track on both points, then cut the outer rail between the 2nd and 3rd sleepers. This way the rail of one point slides into the chair of the other, and keeps the sleepers reasonably inline. Not sure how prototypical the staggered joint is, but it looks pretty good in the flesh.
  8. I'm using these to re-lay the widened lines layout, so much better looking that the normal streamline track. The rail joiners are quite fiddly to line up, but are well worth the effort. These two are forming a loco release in the platform roads of Leadenhall market, I've trimmed them both to bring the tracks closer together. Track centres are now at 47mm.
  9. Reading that article I would say it's the other way around. I'm in my 30's, and like me most of my friends don't believe one word peddled by the traditional media.
  10. Do you know the width and height you've got to play with for the engine? I've got some merc and bmw 6cyl engines I can run a tape measure around for you.
  11. Looks like a great basis for a minories style layout. I found this vid on youtube, it's in french but there are some great clips of the station from 3 minutes onwards.
  12. Clive, was it you that mentioned a lone class 122 working with the 116's for a time? I presume this wouldn't have a tripcock fitted?
  13. Looks like I'll just need the 116's and 105's for a mid 70's layout then, better dig out those old lima bodyshells!
  14. Hi all, and Happy new year! I'm looking for a few spare bodyshells for the old lima 117 model, driving ends specifically. These are so I can do another 116 conversion. If anyone can help please get in touch.
  15. Following on from the Kings cross suburban thread, I've been thinking more about the LMR services to Moorgate. During the 1970's these were in the hands of class 116 DMU's, normally running as a interesting 4car lashup with 3 power cars. But were these the only trains to come from the LMR? I've heard it mentioned that in the later years class 125 and 127 units did occasionally work all the way to Moorgate, but I've never seen a picture to prove it. Can anyone shed any light on this?
  16. Here's one that hasn't been posted yet. 40 121 at the then platform 11 with a rake of mk1 suburbans from Peterborough.
  17. Weston sidings platforms in 2006 shortly before demolition work started.
  18. The sidings were disconnected in 88, then shortly after in the same year platform 11 was put back into use in the suburban trainshed. The milk dock platforms wernt cleared until early 2000s I think.
  19. Those lines form part of broad street goods depot lower level, this made use of the space under the station itself.
  20. That's platform 3 of the met station. It was taken out of use in the 80's and is now forming part of crossrail.
  21. That's what I cant work out, because there are 2 sets of doors on platform 17 in a similar area. These can be seen in Mikes pics in post 243. P17 must of had it's own set of waiting rooms ect alongside those of 16, but on a higher level.
  22. Those must be taken close to closure, that section of canopy was taken out in the last few years. Interesting that it shows the entrance doors to the buildings between hotel curve platform and platform 17, I would love to know the layout of those as they are on split levels.
  23. Those pics are amazing Mike. The whole place just oozes a wonderfully dark, dirty, atmosphere. 16 and 17 really were a relic from another time.
  24. Thanks for the mention of the book, I'll try to find a copy of that. I might have a pic of the area behind the buffers looking outwards, the platform canopy itself joined into the glazed roof over this area at right angles. Not 100% Sure but that staircase might lead up to the walkway above the end of platforms 11-13. I'll dig out some more pics from the laptop tonight.
