  1. As for me; I'll take what's probably the boring but safe option; modern video camera and a RADAR gun, and then set up along various places and times, to see if City of Truro / Flying Scotsman / Papyrus / etc. actually did make their record breaking runs.
  2. (Uncertain if joking, but goes to have a look). Let's see; for big-name internationally renowned bands and performers, we've got the Bee Gees (yes, really), Oasis, The Chemical Brothers, George Formby (he of the ukulele), Herman's Hermits, Davy Jones from The Monkees, The Mindbenders, Morrissey, and Take That; and that's just a sampling I found.
  3. Well, my order did arrive today; a Tornado trainpack from Hornby; sadly, I missed out on getting a Bachmann Gresley K3, which was a little disappointing.
  4. On a different note, I did some exploring in all the major gauges, and I noticed something interesting, in regard to the A4's; when it specifically comes to the "Coronation Quintet", four of them have been produced in multiple variants- but Dominion of New Zealand has only ever been produced once, by Hornby, Bachmann, and Dapol; and in each case, it's in the same condition, as 60013 in BR Bronze Green; with Bachmann and Hornby both giving her the Early Crest, and Dapol the Late Crest.
  5. I do notice that those couplers are visibly drooping on both wagons; that's not going to happen on the finished products, I hope?
  6. Personally speaking, I think they lost their way a bit when they started cheaping out on the images- I'm not saying they should do a seance to summon Terence Cuneo back from the dead or anything, but I feel like the catalogues would be much more interesting if they went back to the old ways, and included images of the models doing what the real things were made for; like imagine how awe inspiring something like a classic 'lineside' painting of Lord Hurcomb rushing past on the 'Hook Continental' would look; or maybe King Stephen at the buffers at Paddington, catching its' breath after just arriving with the Cornish Riviera Express, or Class 08 shunters rumbling to and fro in a busy yard; or something as humble as a pick-up goods hauled by a 'Black Five' on a lonely windswept moor.
  7. ... He means coke as in the coal derivative, that's used in the steel industry.
  8. Well, I've made what hopefully will be my second-to-last purchase from the shop; an old Hornby Tornado trainpack set, of Tornado in BR Early Crest condition and three post-1957 Mk I's- primarily for the model, which I'm planning to give a good bashing. Hopefully next week, I might be able to squeeze a few other purchases in.
  9. I figured that it wouldn't be, but it's been a bad day for me, so it didn't stick.
  10. So, this might be a stupid question; but while I can see my pre-order of L&Y and GER Genesis coaches will be honoured, should I cancel my pre-order for the Andrew Barclay industrial tank?
  11. An oddball one for you Tony; I'm thinking to add a fictitious extra Peppercorn Pacific to the BR roster, to be named Black Agnes in honour of Anges Randolph, Countess of Dunbar and March, a noted Scottish folk hero. But I can't quite make my mind up about whether to make it an A1 (which in this instance would take Tornado's number), or make it an A2 (and slip it in after 60539 Bronzino). What might you think?
  12. Hope no one minds if I bring this back, but I recently got two A2's second hand (A H Peppercorn and Sugar Palm, both in LNER livery); and I'm baffled about how to connect the tenders to the engines- the posts under the tender for the drawbar both seem way too short to hold onto the drawbar.
  13. So, the general consensus here is a Peppercorn A1 named "Black Agnes", then?
  14. Touching on the original post of this thread, I have been considering the idea of adding an extra LNER Peppercorn Pacific, named after Agnes Randolph, the Countess of Dunbar and March, who is better known as "Black Agnes"; she is a Scottish folk hero famous for her defence of Dunbar Castle against a six month long English siege during the Second War of Scottish Independence. My only quibbles are that I can't decide if it should be an A2 or an A1, and what would be the most appropriate name to apply- her formal name and title, or her epithet. What's everyone's thoughts on that?
  15. Just as a side note, I had a look recently, and by all accounts the only 'Coronation' A4 that hasn't appeared in LNER livery is Dominion of New Zealand; it's only ever appeared in BR Green- Hornby did it with the Late Crest, and Bachmann did one in the 90's (supposedly a split-chassis version?) with the Early Crest.
  16. That's actually something I've been thinking about for a while; what models would be the best starting point for those American Moguls?
  17. Yeah, like an under-slung fuel tank, or at least an approximation thereof.
  18. On the subject of which; I was looking at PECO's website before, and at what was listed as a Type DX open container kit, to suit the companion conflat kit; what would such a container even be used for?
  19. Yeah, but they're not much good if you're modelling Grouping Era, are they?
  20. I've seen a few going second-hand at Hattons; but only the BR versions, not the LNER ones.
  21. Well, it might not be quite in the spirit of the thread, but I would like to get this one off my chest. I'd rather like to see a return of the LNER 13T Steel bodied open merchandise wagons, like the 38-325 to 38-331 models, dating from back around 1999.
  22. Strictly speaking, you are correct; but I am fully going Rule One with this idea, which includes toying with a bit of Alt-History, in having the Transport Act of 1947 contain similar language to the Railways Act of 1921; in that rather than giving the Big Four only a few months notice about being nationalised, the process was a little more drawn out, with the result that British Railways wasn't fully formed until the start of the 1949 financial year, or perhaps even the start of the 1950 calendar year. I mention that since the pair of A2's in question are both in LNER livery- 525 A H Peppercorn, and 526 Sugar Palm.
