  1. If it's any interest, the idea I mentioned was that due to weird and complicated reasons, a light railway I've created had an agreement with the Great Eastern Railway, which gave the light railway limited running rights on GER metals, between King's Lynn and London; and that similarly, the light railway has need to run a (comparatively short) regular boat train from a harbour it services, either to King's Lynn, or indeed all the way to London; and that post-Grouping, the arrangement is still in effect with the LNER.
  2. Hmm... so, most seats filled, but not jam-packed; that'll work for me
  3. So, how many passengers could you plausibly have in each version of the coach models? I have a wild idea for my projected line, but I'd want to get a rough idea for how many packs of passengers I'd need.
  4. Fair enough then, boss man; I had been thinking that my planned light railway set (which isn't all that 'light', given it's built to an unusually high Route Availability standard in the fluff) might have bought old castoff rolling stock from both Britain and the Continent to fill the roster of wagons and coaches; so thus having some stock that were purportedly rebuilt from the chassis of old ferry vans feels like it would suit.
  5. Not especially, but I am a dirt poor and mildly autistic modeller, for whom buying even the budget range models can be quite expensive, particularly when currency exchange rates are involved; and to see people apparently making a game of slagging off anything and everything to do about a hobby is very discouraging- tone doesn't carry in visual text, after all. Either way, let's just agree to disagree.
  6. SteveyDee68 mentioned the idea of them being a ferry wagon, and that got me thinking; when did Ferry Wagons start being a thing, and what happened to obsolete wagons- would they go into the general traffic pool of whichever country/railway they were in? Would they be scrapped? Or maybe, sold off to other users?
  7. Well, I'll take your word for it, but I meant more that nearly every 'bread-and-butter' PO and company wagon I've seen RTR is at best a generic cookie-cutter RCH 1923 Design with a different livery; or at worst is completely made up.
  8. So, by the sounds of things, they're going to wind up the business soon. Anyone know if the toolings or designs for their loco bodykits have been handed on to anyone?
  9. Well, I can't really give any specific examples, but some more pre-Grouping and Grouping era wagons and vans would be nice to see too; things outside the usual would be a bonus as well, like rtr brick and tube wagons, or something akin to the North British Railway's six-wheeled 15 ton goods vans, which lasted into BR days.
  10. Yes, yes, we all know; it's been talked to death here there and everywhere; but I'm asking about what they'd be like if they were 'full size'.
  11. I'm actually curious about them; what would their assorted internal and external dimensions be if they were 'full-scale'?
  12. Sounds feasible to me then; and by the looks of it the 51-footer luggage van (full brake) sounds like a useful van to have for any service...
  13. So, I've heard that Ian Kirk kits are a bit.... iffy in the eyes of the rivet-counters; but even so, are they good enough for the average punter?
  14. This is just me, but I've found success in using nail polish remover; granted, it does leave a bit of a shiny spot, but that can be dealt with.
  15. If you're interested, Chamoissaire was initially shedded at King's Cross, along with sister engine 513 Dante; at the time, they were the only two A2/3's stabled at 'Top Shed'.
  16. Looks like something you'd see in a post-apocalyptic setting.
  17. Man alive, I've already hit a stumbling block with the N-class; I can't tell from the diagram if the cab is separately fitted or not, and I'm very reluctant to just break out the hacksaw without being absolutely certain.
  18. As an LNER fan I must admit to my shame, I don't have any A4's in my collection; I would like one, to be sure, but the Garter Blue looks so.... played out to my eyes- what I'd really like, is one of the ones that wore the short-lived 'Apple Green' liveries.
  19. Cor... that's a brutal looking thing, innit?
  20. Having been looking over the 'Pugbashing' thread, I've decided that I want to take a crack at it myself. Currently, I have two plans on my desk- one is to take an old 'Blue Riband' era Bachmann N-class, replace the cab with a different styled one, and repaint engine and tender into a new paint scheme. This will likely be my first 'bash', given that it's relatively more simple. The other is a full 'Pugbash'; convert a Hornby 'Pocket Rocket' into something close to a North London Railway inside-cylindered 4-4-0T tank engine. As best as I can tell, this will require an aforementioned 'pocket rocket', a Holden 101 bodyshell, and at least two Dapol/Kitmaster kits for parts- A 'Pug' and a 'City of Truro'.
  21. Fair enough; but by that token, where would I go find the replacement part?
  22. So, here's a problem I have; I got an old Bachmann 'N-class' Mogul from Hattons that arrived in the post today; but it looks like it got biffed in transit, as one of the 'horns' on the drawbar between engine and tender had snapped off, making it pretty much unservicable. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it, or, do I have to try and get a new one?
